I do not mean to denigrate the Salem library, but the new books shelf at the Albany library is MUCH more interesting. I read voraciously, but Albany is sourcing titles which have completely escaped my attention--and that of big-name book lists. The same discrimination is being shown in the little store run by the Friends of the library. Their shelves used to be blah, but are now always worth a look.

This feature is so helpful if you want an in/out experience. The library is what makes this City right. They are doing an excellent job!! The books are super awesome - you can find so many great ones, and they pull from other Oregon libraries so you really aren't limited to the books at this location. A fat thumbs up to this library and everything it has to offer. Also - don't forget the cultural pass you can reserve. It was a great way to take your children to local attractions without paying an entry fee. What a great educational opportunity!!!!

After years of living in Salem, I finally started going to the main branch of the Salem Library…read moreand, my god, I can't believe I never utilized this incredible place before. The building is huge, three stories, with plenty of conference rooms and even quiet side rooms that you can reserve for your own use. The sections are clearly marked and offer a little bit of everything. There's even a selection of audio books that you can look through. Upstairs on the second floor is the "Teen Zone." This room has video games, board, games, comfortable chairs and tables, and is a nice place where, I assume, teens can do their homework in a quiet, safe, warm, comfortable area. I often times take my kids here when we're looking for something to do, or in between times when we're meeting their mom to swap off our time together, and we'll play the various games they have available like Munchkin and Ticket to Ride, or Jenga or other traditional games. I love the science-fiction section and, because the library offers two electric vehicle charging stations at a lower price per kilowatt hour than some other locations, I'll often stop by here to charge my vehicle. I can easily pass the time by reading a book in one of the many, many comfortable seating locations around the library while my car charges. One thing that I finally found, that a friend pointed out, is something I'm almost hesitant to write about. However, if more people know about and request these things, maybe there's the opportunity to have more. I'm speaking of, of course, the Cultural Passes. Salem Library offers passes that are free for admission to many, many amazing locations around the Salem and Portland area. Each pass allows free entry for two people and are available for: Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum Gilbert House Children's Museum Hallie Ford Museum of Art Lan Su Chinese Garden Oregon Garden Oregon State Parks (all locations!) Pittock Mansion Portland Japanese Garden Willamette Heritage Center The passes are available for seven days and are non-renewable. Most people seem good about getting them in (although it appears that one person is almost two weeks late returning their pass, which is just plain rude and hopefully they will not be allowed to rent any more cultural passes) on time. You can look online at the website to see what passes are currently available at any time. There is also a section in the middle of the main floor of the library where you can borrow cooking and baking equipment, electronic equipment, games, and other miscellaneous items. Really, this library has so many incredible things available, it's really one of the greatest resources in the area. I hope the city council continues funding this incredible place because it's one of the greatest benefits our community has.

But don't miss the gray spot on the floor directly beneath the dome which is the axis point for astonishing acoustics. Four floors. Spacious and bright. a comfortable place for reading.. but also so much more. The sitting/reading areas are filled with community members grateful for outlets to charge their phones and technology. There are puzzle tables set up on each floor and they were always occupied. Record player and LP collection. A "silent" electronic piano where someone was practicing with earphones on. Area to access assistive technology for patrons with more severe disabilities to facilitate communication. Also a braille printer. There was a teen area with comfortable chairs, free access to feminine hygiene products, computer gaming area. The proximity of the library to the bus station makes the library a welcoming space for teens who might need a break. The public library also partners with 15th Night, an intervention program that seeks to interrupt the problems leading to youth homelessness before it becomes a lifestyle. There's a snack bar in the foyer at the entrance to the library where tables permit patrons to enjoy a food and drink break. The library of things is a wonderful concept. It permits community members to borrow unusual items like metal detectors or shredder or bun pans in the shape of Harry Potter castle as well as Oregon state Park passes... And then return them when they're done. There's also a seed library that allows you to take seeds that have been brought in and take them home for planting. The children's book selection is extraordinary. And the spaces are comfortable and designed to accommodate children... including the largest enclosed outdoor space in Eugene so children don't have to feel that when they get to the library they are constrained by the requirement to be silent. The outdoor space has giant size Lincoln for building and benches for parents to sit. The area is also targeted for renovations and expansion to permit both families and classrooms to enjoy safer outdoor respite. Now easily one of my favorite places to spend time in Eugene

There is a reception area when you come in, and restrooms not far from it. There are two levels. Each one is very user friendly. There are tables and chairs to sit, and stay a while. There are lots of books and games available. Computers are also available to use.

I love this library for their children's events/programs every week. They have music and story…read moretimes for kids a few times a week with an absolutely wonderful lady. I wish I knew her name! She is just fantastic with all the children. We have only been about 5-6 times so far, but my daughter that is 1.5 years old just loves it! Motion Monday's are so cool! It's music and dancing! It gets pretty hot in that room so wear layers so you can peel off as it warms up. Story times seem like they always include a craft at the end, which my daughter is just barely old enough to start enjoying. This is such a great thing our community library puts on. I am so thankful for it. It's awesome to see the amount of kids and active parents that show up! Our little library is truly a gem. They also have a great children's section in the library. My daughter loves to go over there and play and read books. Another perk to the library is their free wifi and computers they have. It's just an all around neat place. The staff members were uniformly knowledgeable, patient and helpful. The building and furniture is comfortable and pleasant. A number of the work tables are near electrical outlets. The library appears to have a good collection of books although that was not the purpose of my visit.

The staff is friendly and helpful, and best of all, you can easily order most any book and pick it up without much wait at all (for comparison, in other library systems I have had to wait months for a requested book to arrive). My biggest complaint is that the outside drop off box is closed, so you have to return books during hours or at another location. Other than that, it's a very acceptable library.

I have been going to Barnes & Noble and spending a fortune on books. My friends got me to go into the Springfield library and sign up and get a library card. It is 100% free since I live within the city limits. I had no idea how far libraries have come since the days of being in school. You can order books online. You can read books online. You can have them brought out and get delivered to your car curbside. It was such an eye-opening experience of how much money I have been wasting buying books only to not finish reading them. The girls inside the library were so helpful and friendly, teaching me how to scan and bring back my own books if I'm in a hurry. I have had a great experience going to the Springfield Public Library. They have comfortable seating to read a book before you check it out. I had noticed several people there seeming to just relax and enjoy themselves. They have tables in the back for people who want to study. I noticed people with laptops, possibly doing homework or work. It was quiet and peaceful. I have found myself going to the Springfield Public Library twice a month now. On the plus side, I'm no longer spending money buying books that I can read for free. Great for the budget!

I applaud the fact that it is not a pseudo homeless shelter. The facilities are in the City Hall building so maybe they have better control than Eugene. The book store is absolutely wonderful. I've found a myriad of interesting things in addition to some amazing books. The prices are still reasonable. Libraries are the backbone of civilization. Please remember that.
