I am a very happy customer. I had an old brick patio behind my house in Laguna Beach. Originally, I thought it added to the charm of the old house, but after a few winters, I realized that I had pooling and drainage issues that allowed water to sit against my house. My wife and I put a call out to several paver contractors, and, truth be told, before we knew the costs or had even finished our walkthrough, we pretty much had made up our minds that we wanted to work with Darrell Silverthorn (owner of Left Coast Pavers & Concrete). Not only was he very pleasantly laid-back, but he had creative ideas--ideas about things we hadn't thought about. Immediately, we had confidence that this guy knew what he was doing, and that he wasn't just trying to sell us something. And he gave us ballpark costing right on the spot. The job was to remove all the flagstones I had laid some sixteen years ago in our front and backyards, plus the concrete driveway. With his crew of twelve-fifteen men, skid steer, dump trucks, mounds of crushed concrete and sand, and dusty clouds from concrete cutting, we were in a whirlwind of activity that was up and running and finished in four days. Day five was for sealing the beautiful craftsmanship of his crew, which Darrell did himself. When all was said and done, his crew did a decent job of cleaning everything up, and we are very happy with the outcome. The end result is a work of art. Whether you decide to go with Left Coast or another outfit, it will behoove you to spend ample time preparing everything for that day when work begins. Don't expect the guys to read your mind. If you know something might get damaged or is simply in the way, move it to safety. That's what we did; so many things his crew didn't have to deal with. I very, very rarely write yelp reviews (good or bad), but the work done by Left Coast Pavers on our house was truly worthy of a 5 star review. Darrell and his crew did impeccable work. I cannot recommend them highly enough! Darrell is extremely knowledgeable and had good suggestions for keeping my costs under control. He shared helpful ideas and helped me problem solve for details where I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted. He was extremely patient when delays came up that were not of his making. The scope of work for this project included 40 linear feet of 6 foot high concrete block wall, and another 30 linear feet of smaller concrete block walls topped with wall caps for planting beds. Finally they installed approximately 1500 sq feet of pavers for our walkway, two patio areas, and a pool deck. Oh! And they added some beautiful Deco tiles on the risers of our stairs to match the waterline tile in our pool. Darrell was extremely communicative. He was always available by phone if I had questions. He always let me know when his guys would be showing up and how long the job would take. He always showed up with a small army of craftsmen who were ready to knock the job out. They worked long hours to get the work completed. His crew were friendly and kind, and always left the job cleaner than they found it. Finally, Darrell took extra time to walk me through the process of how to care for, maintain and re-seal my pavers and how to know when they will need it (not for a couple years). Most importantly the job looks great and my wife is elated! It's been a pleasure working with Darrell and his crew.
