This place did not start off well for me. We arrived at 5:30 pm and there was no parking. Even if they had a spot, I'm not sure I wanted to park there. For some reason, the customers forgot how to park in between the lines. When I first looked at the menu, the prices were a little shocking. I ordered a side salad with ranch, and the Left Fork burger on a brioche bun with Havarti cheese. The salad was romaine but they had a leaf that had some spoilage on it. The buttermilk ranch was homemade, which I appreciated but something was missing. It needed more garlic powder and a tad more dill. The burger was supposed to have garlic mayo on it but there was no hint of garlic whatsoever. I appreciated the fact that they used real butter and toasted the buns. However, they did not season the patty which made the ground beef flavor come through more. Nasty. The pickle was wilted and not crunchy. They coated the fries, which gave it that extra little crunch. That was good. For dessert, I ordered the pecan pie. The filing was amazing. The crust, at least the bottom, not so good. The bottom crust was way too thin for my liking. It was so thin that it made it soggy. The top rim crust was crispy but not flakey. This place is closing in April 2026 and I don't know if it's even worth rating at this point. We spoke to the employees and they said they're closing due to the apartment complex is taking over their lease for additional parking. This place is old. The chairs are rickety and the tables really rock. The carpet is dirty and it looks in need of a refreshing anyways. The portion sizes are ok and maybe I just ordered the wrong items. My sister-in-law ordered the grapefruit cream pie and it was amazing. Everyone else's dish looked pretty good. Now for my rating. I'm torn. It's a 3 1/2 but I can only rate a 3 or 4. I choose 3. When we landed in SLC we wanted to find a spot that had basic breakfast offerings that was close to our rental car pickup. I was delighted to find Left Fork Grill right down the street and when we pulled up there was plenty of parking left in the lot as we made our way inside. The smells of bacon, sausage, and hot brewed coffee hit us right when we walked in. We were greeted and sat in a modest booth not too far from the entrance. As Texans we were a little shocked with the cold crisp air so I was happy to walk in and feel like I was wrapped up in a warmth of pancake smells and some warm coffee. The menu was diverse and there was plenty of us to check out including their pie selection. Also, while sitting in the booth, I noticed and loved the pie shelf that is included in every single seating situation around the grill. Super super cute idea and just begs for you to get a pie so you can display it for yourself, and everyone else, what lovely pie dessert you have to eat! Our food was delicious and since we had a long morning of commuting from Texas to SLC we finished every single bite of our dishes. I opted for a 2 egg, seasoned home fries with some tasty caramelized onions, toast, and sausage dish while my partner had a hearty 3 egg ham and cheese omelette. Service was fast and friendly. Our waitress was super attentive with our coffee and refilling us up as well as making small talk about our day and our plans which I appreciated it. Yesterday after a long hot day of helping family move my mom and I just wanted to sit down to a quiet meal. We walked into Left Fork about 45 mins before closing. We were greeted with a warm welcome. I always feel guilty stopping in to eat at a place that is soon to close because I'm sure they also want to just go home and rest after a long day. We offered to leave if they were already wrapping up for the night. The ladies working, were kind, and eager to get us fed. I can't thank them enough. We were tired, hot, and hungry. I have found the diner of my dreams! Tucked away on 3900 South in SLC, this little restaurant is just the kind of comfort food I was hoping for. I have a friend who was moved to an assisted living facility and loves rhubarb pie. I'm not much of a pie maker, so called all over trying to find rhubarb pie. Hooray! Left Fork had it and said they'd box up a few pieces for me. I also ordered a tuna sandwich for lunch to go even though my hopes were low. Most places don't make good tuna sandwiches and when they do, they often taste odd and aren't good. However, Left Fork's sandwich was perfect! Pickles, cheese, the right amount of mayo, lettuce, tomato, and tasty bread. Very generous size, too. The pie is amazing! I got some extra slices for my family and the crust is delicious. First off, the biggest plus was that we were able to get seated right away! We had first tried to go to Penny Ann's nearby and there was a 1 hour wait. The service overall was good. At first our waitress was very impatient and short with us, but all of a sudden she flipped a switch and was very nice, so I don't know what that was about. The food was just okay. It wasn't anything to write home about, but wasn't bad either. We got the pancakes and breakfast sandwich. The pancakes were HUGE, but lacking on sweetness and flavor. The breakfast sandwich was pretty good though. The restaurant itself definetly has a 50's mom and pop diner vibe. I di have to say the building does look a little run down, with water stains all over the ceiling and such. They also display and sell local artists work, which is pretty cool, but boy are they overpriced. Seemed like the average piece was about $150. Were greeted immediately, shown to our table- my wife asked about fish and chips- without hesitation both the server and greeter raved. So we ordered. One day, I was browsing locations to have a quick bite of breakfast in my local area. One such location caught my eye: Left Fork Grill. Left Fork Grill sits in an unassuming building next to a business park, marked only by signage and its reputation. Not wanting to spoil the surprise of my soon-to-be meal, I hopped in my car and ventured on my merry way to the restaurant. When I got there, I was hit with a conundrum; street parking was packed, no less than the restaurant parking lot itself! Indeed, there was a sign on the door warning patrons not to park in the business park out back, as those spots were for staff and patrons of those businesses only. Feeling slightly daunted, I took some time to acquire a parking spot, and much to my delight, found one in a nearby parking lot. I crossed the street, stepped inside (a kind gentleman held the door open for me, no less; coming from a Californian, born and raised, this kind of gesture is not seen commonly there), and was immediately hit with a wave of nostalgia. The interior was much like a now-defunct restaurant, called Cable's, I regularly went to with my parents in my youth. In a way, it was a much-needed reminder of what I left behind in California, and a delight of my youth I could unfortunately no longer partake in. My feelings already lifted, I took two steps to the counter, where I indicated my party size, and I was sat at the bar. Unfortunately, this is where my feelings about the whole endeavor become a bit iffy, as it seemed that newcomers did not receive as welcoming a treatment as regulars did. Observing the staff interactions with the regular patrons, it definitely seemed that the regulars received a warmer treatment than I, a newcomer and stranger to the establishment, received. In my mind, customer service is just as much a part of the restaurant experience as is food quality and taste, and this is where they fell slightly short of my standards. Needless to say, my belly needed filling, and I wasn't about to let its calls for food go unheeded! I ordered one of my favorites, a breakfast staple: Biscuits and gravy. In this case, it came with an order of four biscuits, cut in half and draped liberally with delicious sausage gravy, plus two eggs any style (I got them poached) and a side to boot! For my side, I ordered bacon, of which I received three strips. I will say that the biscuits and gravy were delicious. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly, made even better with the addition of hot sauce, salt, and pepper. They didn't skimp on the bacon, neither! I polished off the meal in record time. Although the meal was good, the food came out fast, and the overall quality of the meal was superb, the service continued to remain substandard in my eyes. The check was brought out without my asking for it; it seemed like they just wanted me to leave, at that point. Most establishments would ask if the diner(s) wished to order anything else before presenting them with their check, but not Left Fork Grill, at least not in my case. Plus, it turns out it wasn't even the right bill. After notifying them of their mistake, they presented me with the right bill, and I paid, my stomach satisfied, but wishing for more out of their customer service. A stranger/newcomer to a restaurant deserves the same treatment that any well-established diner gets, and if said stranger/newcomer does not receive said treatment, they may be discouraged from coming back to patronize the location again in the future, something I hope Left Fork Grill learns. My rating is reflective of my overall experience at this restaurant, weighing all the variables presented in my review together. Poor customer service is something that can be remedied with sufficient training or enough customer complaints (although I should hope the latter does not come to pass before the restaurant addresses it). Regardless, give this place a shot! Although I've only had breakfast here so far, I bet you anything their lunch and dinner are also just as good. read more

After hearing so many other people talking about this diner, I wanted to give it a try. So my wife and I visited for breakfast recently. It encompasses the entire meaning of "divey" by being a bit dated with a good percentage of patrons on first name basis with the staff. It's almost like something you'd see in a RomCom-but here in Salt Lake City. We were advised to take a specific table when we walked in. There was no host, just a waitress running around taking care of everyone-she was also the one who greeted us and directed us where to sit. We watched for a few minutes and realized this poor lady was running the place herself. Not a single other staff member in sight. (Hopefully someone will notice the big "help wanted" sign in the window soon.) She came to us, took our order and returned a few minutes later with drinks. I felt bad for her-I really wanted to grab a notepad and jump in to help. Some of the other guests were getting antsy and we noticed one party left early and asked for their food to go. She remained pleasant and did the best she could. It's not her fault that she's the only one there. The food itself was great! I had eggs, pancakes and bacon. I couldn't tell what was in the eggs, but it made the flavor stand out in a good way. The pancakes were a little thin for my liking, but not terrible. And the bacon was fine-two of the pieces were perfection and the third was just about all fat. I left that one behind. I will add this place to my list of those I'd like to return to. I'm sad to say, but my experience here was just OK. Prices are a smidge over priced for what you're getting. I ordered the hot cakes (2 big pancakes, choice of sausage, ham, or bacon, and 2 eggs) for $12.99. My pancakes lacked flavor and there was a short hair in the butter. The pancakes needed salt and I tried a bite of my friends corn beef hash and it was very one note and needed more salt as well. We also got the clam chowder which had good flavor but didn't taste like traditional clam chowder. It was still good though! I used to enjoy the Left Fork Grill but our early Sunday lunch was a real disappointment. We ordered coffee to start which didn't come until we asked for it after, say, fifteen minutes. My wife declined our servers offer of a free cup. Then after another fifteen or twenty minutes, I received my entree, a Chile verde burrito, which arrived at our table too late for it to have been hot. It had four homemade flour tortilla chips on the side, which smelled a bit funky and tasted a bit off. I wondered what the issue was, but when my wife ordered me a taste of her chicken fried chicken, I told her, "the oil they fried these in must either be quite old or it is the same oil they use to deep fry their fish". It tasted really bad. She noticed the flavor too but finished most of her lunch. Oh, and when her lunch was served, she asked the server, who was different from the one who took the order, "where is my salad". He embarrassedly went seeking the lady who had taken the order. She brought over the salad saying "when I brought your husbands coffee, you should have asked me for your salad. So bad food, bad service and then she just ignored us for about 15 more minutes after we had finished eating. We finally flagged her down and she said "didn't I give you your bill"? I said no and she pulled out a crumpled wad of bills from her pocket and found the one for our order. She ran over the till and took over from the woman who had been ringing everyone else out and asked if I wanted to look over my bill. I said "yes, of course" and she held it up for me to read. I inserted my credit card and she asked if I wanted to add a tip to the charge. I looked her straight in the eyes and said NO. This is the first time in many many years that I didn't leave a tip. I was so disgusted by the service that the acronym for TIPS of "To Insure Prompt Service" in no way applied. Sad to see an old standby fall out of favor as a place to eat. It was just wonderful. The potatoes that came with it were also just heavenly. My mom got the French toast and substituted fruit for the protein and they gave no extra charge. She loved the French toast and the fruit. Just a quality spot that you need to check out if you long for the small town service and home town cooking you get from small towns. I was curious about seeing previous reviews for the cash only rule that applies now, but after visiting Left Fork Grill I have learned that they do accept debit cards now, and if you use a credit card it's a 3% fee. So for those curious, it's not just cash only anymore. Anyway, my trip here was so worth it. Any time I've came here the food is exactly how I want, and it always comes out fast and hot. Our waitress was very attentive, and friendly. I ordered the steak and eggs meal and upgraded the side of toast to a side pancake. Their pancakes are so good! The rest of my food was good too. I've been wanting to try their pie, and every time I've been I'm always so full because the portions they give you are a pretty good size. So glad I found this place on Google Maps! They serve breakfast lunch and dinner items. I had the Chicken Schnitzel. It came with mashed potatoes and gravy and fresh green beans. It was delicious!! I also chose soup over salad and was glad I did. Soup of the day was meatball & peppers. It was so good, I took some home for my husband's dinner. My son ordered French toast that came with 2 eggs and his choice of meats. He had bacon. The bread used for the French toast added a special layer of yummy to the meal. Well this was a chance visit to take our good friend Rod Harmon out for breakfast. We wanted a diner with old school American food and we were not disappointed. They serve breakfast until 3pm so I ordered the spinach, bacon, gruyere cheese, omelette with hollandaise sauce. The omelette was fantastic and possibly the best omelette I have had in two or three years. Our helpful waitress let us substitute a pancake for the toast and my grandkids loved it all as I shared at least half of my breakfast because they liked it so much. Uncomfortably spendy for breakfast value. I've been coming to this restaurant since it was Kramers back in the late 80's. The breakfast prices have elevated to hotel level yet the food was just ok. My wife had pancakes with eggs and bacon. The pancakes were like a box mix, bacon was thin and under cooked. I had the chili verde skillet. The fried potatoes seemed pre-cooked as they were browned yet soggy. The chili verde was very bland and pork was scarce and all was warm but not hot and all needed salsa, pepper, and hot sauce to bring out any flavor. For 15.00 and a special of the day, it was a let down. The orders also came out almost instantly which tells me much pre prep. Is going on in the kitchen. Our eggs were fried to order and cooked perfectly. The service was also fantastic. Overall I don't see a return trip in our near future but if you're in the neighborhood it's worth a try. read more
