RUN! Although my divorce was messy, there were some basic,…read moreserious problems here. 1. This attorney told me she would petition for child support during the divorce. She did not. She told me we would attempt to get back child support during my settlement, but due to her distaste of my situation, she again did not. The total lost was over $7000. 2. She did not follow up with the opposing counsel, so the divorce also took almost 1 1/2 years, costing me almost $20,000 in attorney fees. Granted, my divorce was messy, but I would have to call her office to request they contact opposing counsel or they would simply wait for the other side to respond (which they never would because they were doing everything they could to stall!). Each call cost me more money to encourage them to do something they should already be doing. 3. There was one point where I was forced into court with a subpoena where she entered with NO documentation... not ONE paper. Also, when I tried to have her present the judge with a document I had brought that I felt would help my case, her response was, "We don't want him to know that yet." The result was catastrophic for me. 4. Mediation was a fiasco. MY attorney turned on me. Barbara Cole did NOT have my back and made no effort to help me after she deemed me unworthy. I always felt she talked down at me, which I did not like, that I was beneath her and deserving of my situation. There is a part of the code of ethics of an attorney that states that if an attorney has issue with their client, they are to discharge the case... she did not and pretty much threw me under the bus without even trying, exclaiming, "I can not defend you!" She also sat there and bragged about her son going to an ivy league college to the mediator as if nothing was wrong, while I sat there in utter devastation. When it was over, she walked out and left me sitting there with nothing but a "congratulations" on my settlement. I changed attorneys AFTER my mediation and before the final hearing, which she didn't like. She even petitioned the court to have my divorce postponed until I paid her in full. Thankfully, I was able to pay her off and then immediately sought modification with my new attorney. My new attorney was compassionate, NON-judgmental, and worked very hard to move things forward as quickly as possible. She repaired the damage done by Barbara Cole. Oh, and Barbara Cole is in DALLAS, not KERRVILLE, which she failed to tell me before I signed her contract and which I believe contributed to the horrible service. So again, RUN! Barbara Cole was HORRIBLE and will NOT have your interest in mind... just the bottom dollar she can make!
