This place needs to improve a lot if it wants to stay open. I've been to Legends quite a few times, and have given it plenty of chances, and I don't think it's going to improve. During lunch expect to wait 40+ minutes to get your food, when it's not even busy. This is unacceptable, and specially worse when your food is not right or/and warm. For dinner, it gets somewhat better, but not by much. The last time I was here, the sweet potato fries were old, soggy, and cold. When we told the waiter, he took the fries back, and brought the same fries re-fried. Considering what you are paying, which is towards the pricey end in this town, this is worse than McDonalds. Legends is in a good location. I like the atmosphere, and the way the restaurant is setup inside, and the food is alright. I don't want yet another restaurant to close in Marshalltown. I want to give this place my business, but they are just making it really hard for me to justify coming back. There is no excuse why the service is as bad as it is. read more

Much like any Chili's or Applebee's I was pretty disappointed by Legends. The only bright spot was the appetizer I got: spicy spinach dip (though even it had overly buttered what-they-called pita chips). The buffalo chicken wrap I had was uninspired, and the only thing that had any decent flavor was the beef fajitas my Aunt and Uncle got. It's hard to really mess up fajitas though. Don't eat at Legends if you're in Marshalltown (unless you have to), as there are plenty of better restaurants, like Jax's. read more

Allow me to summarize how your experience at Legends will proceed: the service will be terribly slow--almost to the point of apathetic and the menu options may sound interesting but unfortunately will be poorly executed. My last visit here exemplifies the above. The wait staff could have cared less that we had arrived. After ordering it took upwards of 45 min for the food to arrive. The bun on my burger was soggier than a poodle in a London rainstorm, and the "fresh" fruit was apparently freshly plucked from fields in Siberia as it was frozen solid. That being said, if you are just looking for a place to have a beer and watch a game, they do have a good selection of beer and have always tuned the channel to the game of my choice. We made reservations for 12 at 8:30, we were here at our reservation time and they had to make up a table for us. It took close to two hours to get our food, 3 plates were completely wrong and one was cooked incorrectly. 3 of us didn't even eat our food because they were wrong. 4 of us did the 4 for $25 deal and didn't even order our desserts because we'd been waiting long enough and didn't want to wait any longer. This was the worst service I have ever gotten at a restaurant and customer service. My daughter drove all the way from Iowa falls to meet me for supper after I had gotten off work in Altoona. After picking up my son in Grinnell at home. This was a half way point for us. My daughter could of eaten anywhere and was just glad after her long day and friends deciding to cancel plans that I offered to make the drive after my long day since 6am to take her out for supper. It started by us getting there at 8pm ordering appetizers. There were two other guests on our side already eating that left after us being there within 15 minutes. And for what I could tell only three people at the bar area. We ordered appetizers that took 20 minutes to get when we ordered our food and two to go orders. Appetizers were great, then food can out ten minutes later from what I think was the manager. Saying is this everything when my daughter clearly didn't have a plate. She replied no where's mine. He leaves comes back and apologizes says it wasn't put in. Then hers comes out 20minutes later. In the process our to go order comes out gets set on the table. And waitress walks away two drinks completely empty as we wait for our order doesn't even ask if we need refills. Then our food shows up, I ask if we can have a refill. She looks at me clueless then asked oh what was it just two. In this time I've now quested our to go order and it is missing the gravy and subbed salad for the veggie. As I had order the same order for my husband to eat after work. She looks at me and says what's it missing. She goes and gets the missing things. Brings us the bill doesn't as if we would like dessert as at that point I was fathoming walking out on the bill as I don't think they would of even noticed until 15 minutes later but I'm not that person. I was my daughter food would be half off now that they screwed up. When I questioned the extra salad charge of $1.99.I was told this was a up charge even though it replaced the veggies what the hell. The bill was $97.00 on the worst service I have ever gotten. Sadly I haven't eaten in marshalltown in two years and could if went anywhere we chose here for our dining experience. All I could do was apologize to my daughter as she waited for food and took my she had only snacked today as she had been working on homework all day. I told her in the time it took them to correct her food fix our food mess ups get serv she could of just came home to Grinnell and for better service and still are earlier. We got there are you 8pm left at 945p. We chose this restaurant as applebee's food was horrible last time I ate there. My suggestion would be combined these two restaurants and make one good one in Marshalltown. As at least they had great service and customer service. I'm not sure what has happened to marshalltown in last couple years but just sad. This is the first time in two years I've dined in this town. Absolutely the worst service. The food is just bar food. If it says homemade do. It believe it. The staff has zero idea of what service is or hygiene. When the staff thinks it is more important for themselves to eat before you there is a problem. It is know wonder there are more staff members than customers. read more

I've only been here a handful of times but have never been disappointed. Actually I've been delighted. Their food is very tasty and very consistent. I can never get away from the burgers and appetizers so I can't speak for the others dishes, but judging from their quality from what I've had I'd say it's fair to guess you're not going to get anything you don't like. Coming from a metro area where I could get anything I wanted and being very picky I'm ashamed to say that I was incesned at going into a restaurant situated near a WalMart parking lot. This is the 4th time I've been to this location. Friday, and the parking lot is barren. The first time we ate here, it was pretty awful. Our server wasn't knowledge about the items on the menu. I asked him if the taco meat was supposed to be cold, and he went back and asked the kitchen. Lol. We never got any refils for our soda, and after waiting about a half hour, we had to ask the hostess for our check. We gave them one last try to keep our business. Needless to say, my Fried pickles were awesome!l and came out in 7min. 5minutes after that I got my Habanero Mango Burger with waffle fries! Both of which were very good! Went here for lunch. Arrived at 12:10pm, ordered by 12:20 and food came out at 12:50. I only get an hour for lunch people. Ordered the Chipotle Chicken Wrap with Sweet Potato Fries as a side and both came out out stone cold. I mean it is a wrap so that understandable but even the "grilled" chicken was ice cold. I asked for hot fries after noticing mine were cold. They took them and just fried them again. I could tell by the burnt color. We were in Marshalltown for the Iowa high school state golf tournament. Needed a big meal before we headed back home to Northwest Iowa to catch the high school softball game scheduled for 6:00. The state golf tournament finished around 1:30 pm. We choose Legends hoping they'd serve lunch at such a late hour. This place was definitely the right choice! Excellent food, service and cleanliness. If you're in Marshalltown give this place a try. Large menu and a lot big screen Tv's plus a small one at your table. We had a great dinner here! We did their 2 for $25. The fried pickles were some of the best I have ever had. Not too salty. Great crispy breading. The chicken in the smothered chicken was tender and the topping was not overwhelming. My husband had the sirloin. They were out of the smaller sirloin and so he ordered a slightly larger one that was perfectly cooked and very tender. We had a cinnamon dessert at the recommendation of the waiter and it was great too. The waiter was attentive. I was so glad we decided to try this instead of Applebee's again. read more

Nothing like a refreshing warm beer after a hard day. Had maybe 8 people in the place at 8:00 pm on a Friday and they were complaining about the service and saw a couple plates being taken back the kitchen. Rating of 0.
