Friends and I will be going to 3 paid (reasonable like $15-20 per event) tastings. Last evening, we attended the Spanish Wine Tasting with Tapas and had a fantastic time learning directly from the winemaker/owner from Spain and served delicious authentic tapas from a food truck vendor, Boca'o. A fantastic mixed group with some beginners to experienced wine lovers. I also appreciate the small size of the room for about 20 people so felt like an intimidate gathering. For the price and experience, what a value. After the tasting, opportunities to buy the wines and have it autographed from the winemaker. The liquor store staff were also helpful in answering additional questions and where to locate other wines in the store for comparison.

There was a security agent in the store and outside just next to the door where is the "return" department . But no way to return the empties ... Different system, the manager is really not helpful! And does not have any logical explanation and stays seated behind the desk where you are supposed to receive some help. This possibility to return empties after 8 PM was not indicated anywhere and not on the website either. The manager refused to help. This Liquor store is not very friendly . I went to 39 th and Cambie totally different atmosphere, everybody is helpful there and big surprise they even help you to put your bottles in boxes and wish you a great evening with a smile. I am not a big drinker and would only come here to pick up one or two things if friends are coming over and I happen to be shopping at the No Frills (which is located almost right beside it). Like they want us to spend more time and therefore more money in their shop. How interesting. Perhaps they're learning a thing or two from the privately owned stores around town. On a busy Friday night, we were in the mood to stock up on beer rations. With our eye on the lookout for Whistler Beer's new Blackberry Ale, we were stomping around near the beer racks. There was no luck finding the Blackberry at this location, but the suggestions we were given beer wise, blew my mind. I'm lucky if one clerk says hello, or asks, "Can I help you find anything." But here, there was no holding back. There were beer connoisseur -ish conversations about organic ales, about mixer variety packs, about what they'd tried and what they suggested. From the moment we walked in, through the jovial Cannery Beer owner schlepping samples, straight on out the door, every clerk we encountered gave me the good vibes. And i responded accordingly... instead a 6 or 12 pack, we walked out of there with over $50 of beers and a hankering to shop here more often! Extra points for the parking lot!

The staff was awesome super helpful with great personalities. Pretty knowledgeable for what they carry in store, as well as pretty accommodating. The clerk apologized and re-entered the transaction. It went through the second time. But I kept both receipts, just in case. Sure enough, when I got my MasterCard statement a few weeks later, I was billed for both transactions. Now back at home in Coquitlam, I sent an email to the manager at the Liquor Depot in Edmonton where I had shopped a few weeks earlier. I scanned and sent a copy of both receipts and my MasterCard statement. He replied within hours, apologizing again, and advising me that if I went to the nearby Coquitlam Liquor Depot location on Barnet Highway, I could get the refund processed on my MasterCard. So I went down there the next day. It was the first time I had ever walked into the place. As was I explaining the situation, the clerk politely interrupted me and said they were already expecting me. She again apologized for the bother, and processed the refund at once. What had just happened? Frankly, this level of customer service completely floored me! That was my "introduction" to the Liquor Depot on Barnet. I've since become a regular. The customer service has consistently been friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful without being pushy. Just one example: this past summer, we bought several bottles of an inexpensive table wine from the Okanagan. Two weeks ago, I had the idea to buy some more, but couldn't remember the name of the wine. Well, all I had to do was give the clerk a rough approximation of what I thought I remembered the name of the vineyard was, and she said, "Oh, yes, you mean this one right here...." Excellent service, but also very good prices, comparable to BC Liquor Store prices, and sometimes even lower when they have a promotion. Definitely better prices overall than other private liquor stores I've shopped. The general selection of wines is good, though not great (I focus on wines only because we don't drink a lot of beer or spirits). A lot of the same labels you see at BC Liquor Stores, but several others you don't, including one of our very favourite Oliver vineyards, Silver Sage (although, regrettably, a very limited selection from this wonderful winery). Parking isn't the greatest at this location, but I don't mind. We shop here regularly--definitely our favourite private liquor store!

I find the prices of…read morewines and ciders and beers to be less expensive in these BC stores than those at private, more specialty liquor/wine stores, in general (even though the BC stores may not have specialty vintages. But hey, I'm not a wine connoisseur so what do I care? lol). This particular BC Liquor store is a decent place to get alcohol. It's a mid-size store (i.e., half the other BC Liquor stores I've been to are larger, and half are smaller. This one is perfectly "medium" sized), and it usually has whatever alcoholic beverages I'm shopping for at the moment. This store is conveniently located on Cambie, across from Whole Foods, Canada Tire, Home Depot and Save-On Foods, and there's a huge London Drugs around the corner on Broadway. So... it really is in the middle of a prime shopping area. What is most notable about this BC Liquor store is that there is FREE underground parking available, only for customers of this store. I've not seen this feature at any other BC Liquor store, and boy, on a rainy day, this feature is SUPER nice. I have had good luck with the customer service in this store, too. When I've asked staff for wine recommendations, they have never steered me wrong. This site may not have all the bells and whistles that the larger stores do, but for my purposes (and, I'd guess, for most people), they have WAY more than enough.

This location has been around for decades and therefore looks super dated from the outside. The interior has been modernized to match the other locations though. There is a Coldzone (cold beer and wine) section, but it is pathetically small. I'm sure some people have larger fridges at home. See photo. There was no cold beer at all. I left with a warm pack of beer and eyes full of tears.
