The inventor of genetic or DNA fingerprinting, Sir Alec Jeffreys, is based at and does research at Leicester. The department of Archaeology is currently heavily involved with the discovery of a body that is probably Richard III, under council land in the city, and has been making the national news as a result. The University of Leicester is regularly listed in the top 20 British universities by both the Times and the Guardian, with the Guardian having rated it as high as 12th and the Times having voted it the Times Higher Education University of the Year in 2008/9 (with special mentions both before and afterwards). An active and vibrant Students' Union only helps seal the deal. The SU co-operates with their counterparts at nearby De Montfort University to organise things like the Varsity sports event, where our soccer, rugby and other teams compete, playing at the Tigers rugby stadium and the Foxes football stadium. Several societies are also extremely active, with annual conventions such as Sabrecon occurring in both the Students' Union and the halls of residence. They had over 400 students graduating with their masters degrees and managed to have us in and out in no time. They had photo ops for the graduates and visitors, we got free champagne and everyone was really nice. They also rented out those nicer, portable restrooms that's look like regular public restrooms (stalls, sinks, etc) which was really nice because there were constant long lines to the restrooms in the buildings. My cousin also said she enjoyed going to school there and that she would recommend it. Good time overall.

The pupils get to try out so many creative mediums and even the young ones are taught and then trusted to use equipment such as glue guns and soldering irons. They are really listened to and get so much creative freedom; It's brilliant! When I was at school, all we used were 2B pencils and cartridge paper. If we were lucky we got to papier mâché a balloon to make a crappy mask or form some clay into a nice ash tray shape to take home to our stepdads. I can't speak for the sports department but I'm sure that's excellent too!

This is a great little Nursery and Infants school. Although it is a Church of England run school,…read morethey don't discriminate against any faith and the population of the school is mostly of muslim faith. When you first take your child to St Chads it is like joining a big family. They encourage parents and other family members to get involved very early on. there is a very helpful family learning program as well as having all your regular coffee mornings and school fairs. In my time as a parent at the school I got to know all the teachers very well by first name terms and was always welcomed to help out with activities and trips. The other great things about the school is the head teacher Mrs Bull is always accessible to parents and children alike and she takes a hands on approach to running her school unlike other schools I have visited where the parents wouldn't even know what the head looked like. If you live in the area and are looking for a good start to your children's education I would pick St Chads and you will find it so hard to leave when they reach 7 years old but it will be all worth it.
