I lived in Charlotte, NC for nearly a decade, and had bought a home there. But for the past 6+ years I've been living in Seattle, WA, and before that I lived in Cleveland, OH for a few years. I moved out west for work. I held on to my home in NC because when I left the city it was at the start of the economic downturn and I was significantly underwater on my mortgage. This past spring (March 2017), I finally got my act together to prepare to sell the NC house. My cousin is a realtor in Chicago and he connected me with the Leigh Brown firm. My experience with this firm was amazing!! I say this for a few reasons. First, this house was my first house purchase and also my first house sale. Like many other humans, I had become attached to this "thing" and had a lot of emotions tied up with liquidating the first home of my own. As both a former client, and a former radio producer, I would do testimonial commercials for Leigh! She and her firm are the Real (Estate) Deal. Our agent, Lawrence Mahool, gave great, *realistic* advice on what would get the home sold -- right pricing, right staging, right repairs, etc.. We took most of it, replacing worn carpet, trimming overhanging trees, cleaning as needed, de-cluttering, restoring our living room to a living room from its role as an office... The young photographer, Danielle (?) did a great job capturing the house's many attributes and getting a good selection on the web. The house was under contract, WITH A SECOND OFFER WAITING IN THE WINGS, in less than 24 hours officially on the market! It was shown *only twice,* that I'm aware of! Getting two offers from two showings, on the first day it was available to show, was not something we were entirely prepared for! Leigh Brown did a great job while Lawrence was on vacation, walking me through the negotiation process, and helping us get a signed contract. We got just about what we expected we would get. Leigh Strickland did a great job helping us with the details approaching the close. There were numerous complications associated with the BUYERS' situation (selling their home, their buyers' financing and closing timing, financing the purchase of ours, title search, etc.). Our buyers also wanted numerous inspections beyond the first one. So we settled the entire transaction about 22 days later than anticipated. She met us on our schedule to see as many houses as we could fit in or stand on any given day. Bidding was stressful but Tracy kept a cool head. After meeting with a previous realtor who helped us buy our first house, we were less than impressed with that realtor's promptness and knowledge of our local market, and particularly the way she dismissed our conversations because she knew what we wanted better than we did. Jamie and I decided we needed to reach out for another opinion, and we found Leigh Brown and Associates through Dave Ramsey's Endorsed Local Provider program. We set a meeting at Leigh's office, and she spent over an hour with us during the first meeting - we went through every house listed for sale or that recently sold in our neighborhood and those immediately surrounding. We left with a crystal clear understanding of which houses were selling, in what price range, and why. As soon as we walked out of her office my wife and I looked at each other and knew the only decision was to hire Leigh and her team to sell our home. Once we were ready to list our home, Leigh came out, walked through the house with us and detailed everything she thought we needed to do in order to show the house as best we could. Ranging from repainting baseboards to deep cleaning carpets to rearranging furniture, to de-cluttering; we covered a lot of territory. Worst real estate experience we have had in over 20 years of buying and selling homes. Our agent alternately ignored us and bullied us. Calls would not be answered or returned, and then we would get threatening text messages and emails. She did not negotiate on our behalf at all, or help us through the very complicated selling process. The agency also took it upon themselves to hire contractors who we did not approve and then expected us to pay for them. In the end, we wondered if our agent knew the buyers and did not disclose that. The entire experience was extremely unprofessional. I would never recommend this agency to anyone. read more
