I like the fact that I can go here and buy presents for my mum, dad, brother, sister and grandma without having to venture into the larger shopping town and give money over to big chain stores. Even if I have brought presents elsewhere, I go here to get cards, wrapping and gift bags. Look out for lines by Cath Kidston here, as well as wash bags and bath stuff from ZPM. There are also plenty of gifts for that hardest to buy for demographic, The Man! (they have a great range of cuff links here, which is always a dead cert for A Man present) It is also a great place to pick up children's toys, and I don't mean all those loud ones that take 26 batteries and change into a car. I mean good quality, even educational toys. (Remember those?). Many years ago, when I was going off to be a nanny for 6 boys in California, I stopped off here to pick up some wooden toys for them. When they opened these simple gifts, they honestly spent more time playing with them then the flashy-lights gifts that others had got them. I have also brought my niece an adorable little raincoat decorated with ladybirds and a matching set of boots that I haven't seen anywhere else. Farmers markets have become so ubiquitous in London that it is easy to forget that just a few years…read moreago, we all had to search a lot harder for our organic, locally sourced fruit and veg. Not us in Esher, we have been privileged to have Garsons Farm on our doorstep for... well, the farm has been running since the 1900's. Garsons became what it is known as today around 20 years ago. It has expanded in the last few years, but what it is primarily known as is a place to buy free range, organic, and where possible, locally sourced, fresh produce. Everything that you buy here is delicious. The fruit and veg are plentiful, and comes in both fresh and frozen quantities. There is a large deli, an extremely well stocked cheese counter (which won best cheese shop of the year 2008), a wide range of pre cooked and frozen meals, and plenty of freshly baked cakes and pies. Garsons also covers the American contingent as well. There is a large community of American families living nearby, and Garsons caters for them by supplying treats like Betty Crocker, Aunt Jemima, Goober Grape peanut butter, Lucky Charm Cereals and of course, lots of boxes of macaroni cheese. I know that these things are not what comes under the umbrella of organic goods, but everyones got to have some treats sometimes!

I spied a cabinet full of jewellery, candles, cushions, kitchenware, organic jams, chocolates etc. The items on sale here are well chosen. The food comes from places like Daylesford Organic, the kitchenware includes a range from Emma Bridgewater. I love her stuff so much. But it is pricy. My dream would be to have a kitchen with all of her spotty range in. Spotty crockery makes me happy. There were plenty of yummy mummies visiting when I was here. I'm sure this shop gets its full share of tourists. Even though I live in this area, I don't see why I can't shop like a tourist too - why let them have all the fun?

Last Christmas I managed to buy a PC CDROM mystery game for my son and an arthritis bracelet (pretty, not just the usual copper ones) for my mum in the same transaction! The staff are lovely - very helpful but unobtrusive and aren't in your face when you are browsing. They also do lovely cards for all ocassions, some classy, some cute and some very very funny.
