I also have several herbal formulas from Ryan I keep on hand to use any time I start getting a cold or flu. It's like my own herbal doctor kit. He has helped my wife on numerous occasions with health issues and aches and pains and really helped my mother after another local acupuncturist gave her the wrong herbs and made her condition worse. Some questions were invasive and uncomfortable ("what are your bowel movements like?") but I answered gamely and honestly. I told myself, "He's here to help. He wants a full picture." I'd been told he was a brilliant acupuncturist, and I wanted to have a good acupuncturist. So I continued to answer questions: my diet, my menstrual cycle, my sleeping habits. Then Mr. Jarrett peered at me and said: "Are you aware that you are yelling?" It was a question tinged with condescension. I was not yelling. I had not much raised my voice. It felt like a trap, like a move he's done a zillion times on more vulnerable patients, likely more on women. There was something mind-effy about it. Maybe even with a tiny smidge of sexist sadism. Ten years ago, I would have said, "I'm sorry! Did I raise my voice a little? I didn't mean to!" Even if I knew I hadn't raised my voice. I would have been ashamed, embarrassed, shamed, flushed with awkward remorse. But maybe the benefit of being a little older is to recognize a micro-aggression for what it is. I said evenly, "I'm not yelling. And if I sound a tad tense, it's because this is kind of scary and uncomfortable to me. I am in a vulnerable position here, as a new patient. This is your office, your practice, and you have more power than I do in this situation. So maybe I am responding to those dynamics." He tried for awhile to say he hadn't meant to be imperious/judgmental/condescending but didn't really change the tone. By the end of the appointment, my feeling was: I am not going back. These guys have a sliding scale of $20-$50 depending on whether you just want ear acupuncture ($20-$40) or a more full treatment ($30-$50). It works using lounge chairs circled in a large room and everyone is treated there. (With clothes on of course) Personally I like it better then individual rooms which sometimes feel a little claustrophobic to me. The price makes it affordable enough to go every week so the acupuncture has time to work :) They offer appointments as well as drop in on a space available basis.

He was professional and friendly throughout the office visit. Among other things, I appreciated that he really listened and took extra time to make sure I was comfortable as he massaged and made adjustments. He warned me that I would experience muscle soreness over the next few days, and I did, although it was not debilitating. Most importantly, I experienced about 80% pain relief within twenty-four hours, and I still feel good and strong four days after seeing Dr. Martin. Had a visit with Karden a few weeks ago for persistent knee and foot pain…read more I did not get help with either, instead the visit went in an unusual way. Karden explained that in his opinion many chronic aches and pains were tied to unresolved past trauma. Here's the thing: I'm sure there something to what he's saying and Karden and he feels very strongly about this because he has experienced it for himself. Perhaps a deep dive in past trauma gains relief for some folks with chronic pain. After feeling my knee and foot he declared that there was nothing wrong with either. After leaving his office the pain continued. Thankfully was able to visit my former PT at Berkshire Physical Therapy and Wellness where I would have gone first had I been able to get an earlier appointment. My knee healed on its but was aggravated and as for my foot, it is a mechanical issue based on the way of walk plus recent weight gain that exacerbated it. The PT offered me clear cut ways to help resolve the issues and they are working! I think Karden means well but now that he's a "believer" in past trauma he seems to view other people's problems through the same lense, and in my case completely missed the mark. It's too bad because it was an extremely expensive visit and I feel it was money wasted. I would strongly hesitate to recommend this place.
