The space is gorgeous. They have a large garden space, giant trees, a ton of outdoor seating and a cozy indoor space as well. The space has 3 spaces for food - two of which are currently occupied by 1. Veracruz Tacos and 2. DEE DEE's Thai. Both are delicious and I sometimes get a little bit of both. The Leona bar is so-so. They usually have pretty good frozens. Their cocktail menus always sound interesting, but I've never thought "wow this is a great drink". Same with their caffeine offerings, but I did enjoy their agua fresca. The parking is hit or miss, depending on the season. They have the fire pits going when it's colder. I like coming here to work on a nice day with my pup. read more

Very interesting place. Desert beautiful really. Visiting from out of town and family took us there for breakfast. The gardens are beautiful and the space is really cool. We had to get coffee in one place then go to another for tacos, but I guess that's the whole vibe...we only had one option for food though. I got the mole tacos and they were great. This place screams natural beauty where it had it all from water features to native plants. There was a waking trail and a playground. My only issue was it was hot and and a small amount of indoor seating. It is dog friendly and took mine but she was dying in the heat. so avoid bringing your pup in the middle of the day. Besides that I loved it and there were a few food options from great vendors, Veracruz and Dee Dee, and another is coming serving burgers. The centerpiece is a main cafe and large bar. I ordered a Pineapple Agua Fresca and it was delicious. Parking can be tight but if just picking up food then there are a few spots in front for pickup. Cute concept with lots of seating scattered around. Not a lot of parking so get there early, car pool , or uber as there were about 10 cars stopped waiting for people to leave just to park when we were leaving at 10am. looks like one of the food places was closed but veracruz and the leona bar were open. Coffe, tea, cocktails, danishes and other baked goods along with the tacos and tortas from veracruz. DeeDee thai was there but wasn't open for the day just yet. Lots of native plants, small pond with mini waterfalls , small jungle gym for the kids. looks like some things are unfinished as there was under construction signs but I did expect a little more of a walkable route to be avaliable. would recommend if in the area! read more

We had a great visit to Leona on Brodie. Parking was a bit difficult-- we ended up parking at Lowe's, but it was just a short and easy walk over. Once we got there, the grounds were absolutely beautiful and really made the experience feel special and relaxing. There are lovely waterfall/pond features. There was surprisingly a lot of choices to sit: picnic tables, tables for two etc. There are plenty was water stations and cups are provided. We enjoyed food from DeeDee's, which was delicious, and the horchata drink was especially good that we grabbed from inside the main building. I got the tofu stir fry. It was a decent amount of food and the right amount of spice. There was enough food to fill a hungry belly and just enough to leave some to have leftovers. The horchata drink filled us up so my friend and I both had leftovers! I'd like to come back early morning and enjoy a book and some coffee. I hope there's not a crowd midweek. I know the weekends can be crowded. ****So, I'm back. It's less than 24 hours later and here I am. ;) It's my goal each day to do at least 30 minutes of reading. I grabbed an espresso and a muffin. It was just over $10 for my treats FYI. I don't often come out for breakfast so I don't know if that's high or low. The inside space looked like a public office space. Each table had a person hooked up to their computer click-clacking away. It's a much different vibe than the trivia night last night. If you want an inside work space, I suggest you get there early. I grabbed an Adirondack chair near the water to enjoy my morning ritual. The space is filled with a diverse group of people: friends having coffee, families with young kids, and the business folks. I almost regret my muffin as I'm seeing many Veracruz tacos going by and they look delicious. I'm also seeing many folks coming in to grab tacos to go. THE BIG: What is a botanical cafe? Apparently Leona! This south Austin spot boasts quite the garden aesthetic with tons of indoor/outdoor seating. Parking lot is available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: We came here with another couple and their baby to catch up. Didn't know this spot was here in South Austin. Parking lot gets filled up quickly and the overfill is at the Lowes across the street which is a 5 minute walk. Ordering drinks is straightforward by going inside the building and placing your order. We ordered the Banana Hojicha latte and the matcha latte. The banana hojicha was delicious and not overly banana with the cold foam. Our babies loved hanging out and there were plenty of seating between picnic chairs, tables, indoor seating, and Adirondack chairs. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Damage done for the two drinks was around $17. Pretty delicious and inventive drinks here. Will be back for more chill weekend hangouts and trying some of the food spots here. read more

I had a very pleasant visit to Leona Botanical Cafe & Bar! The actual cafe is modern and trendy, while the outside area is super calm with different plants and foliage. Most notably, the ambiance is very peaceful with sounds of water and birds. Definitely family/ kid friendly and dog friendly! I ordered an Iced Hojicha Latte with Banana syrup. Probably not the most memorable latte I've had, but it was still tasty! Not super sweet and had a decent banana flavor. The staff were very friendly, and when I let them know it was my first time, they offered to give me details on their drink selection! I came at 5pm, and was probably the only person having a non-alcoholic beverage. I will be back to try more items on the menu! read more

Leona is that girl, let's just be honest. No really, I think I'm obsessed. It's giving chic. It's giving oasis. There are so many seating options, both indoors and outside. There is a perfect blend of nature, with plants and greenery spread throughout. The inside of Leonora has a city vibe. It's modern and sleek. It's a great option for a third space! (P.s. I was so in the moment that I forgot to take photos) I ordered a lychee iced tea from the bar. I was surprised by how flavorful and refreshing it was. I'd definitely buy it again. I'm no stranger to Veracruz and opted for tacos. I wasn't disappointed. The main downside is the parking. What a mess! Extremely busy on the weekends so it almost feels impossible. I stopped by with friends on a Monday (Presidents' Day), and it was packed. It's a beautiful, spacious venue with a lot of potential. First, I was surprised that the main hall serving cocktails offers only a limited selection of pastries--once they're gone, that's it. No desserts for sweet‑tooth aficionados like me. Second, I wish there were another food option available; perhaps something is in the works behind the scenes. I love tacos and Thai food, but that may not appeal to everyone. A classic American option--burgers, hot dogs, pizza--would be a welcome addition. I have to say, I'm a little surprised by some of the reviews here. I've been twice and had a great experience both times. I usually go in the evenings so maybe that makes a difference. I live in the area, and it's nice to have another place to grab cocktails that isn't a full restaurant. I really like the indoor-outdoor setup which makes the space feel bigger and more inviting. The string lights outside and the man-made stream are a nice touch. The bar menu includes cocktails, wine, and beer, with the Thai Tea Old Fashioned being my personal favorite. There are also coffee and tea drinks, plus two food options on site, Veracruz Tacos and Dee Dee Thai Food in case you stop by earlier in the day. Best of all, there's plenty of parking. Went to Leona on a Wednesday evening for a drink with my friend. I've been driving past it for years now even when under construction and gotta say - they did such a lovely job with it! That said you can definitely tell it was a much "needed" social spot do South Austin because the place is always CRAZY packed, even on random weeknights... I barely found a spot that random Wednesday. The outdoor seating arrangement is very inviting and I love the pond/zen garden influence. When I came I ordered the painkiller at the bar and it took me right back to the US Virgin Islands where I first tried this drink... it was lovely. A little pricey at $16 but that's drinks everywhere these days I guess... the staff were helpful and friendly, and the seating inside the bar is also heterogeneous and really nice! We ended up sitting on a low couch by some tables and it was definitely a vibe. The bathrooms are also very nice! The communal sink wasn't working at the time I was there though so they had portable wash stations. Did detract from the vibe but they're back behind the building where you don't see them anyway lol. Overall this place is very cute, and imo MUCH needed to have a cute place to gather where you can eat, drink, and hang out in the open air with a calm, inviting ambiance. read more

I met a friend at Leona for a cup of coffee, and I was really impressed! First, there is tons of free parking out front. There is designated handicap, to-go, employee, and compact parking in addition to free open spots for others. Once you park and enter the grounds, there are tons of seating options! Uncovered and covered options galore outside, plus indoor seating. Outside, there are fans and also heaters, so depending on the time of year, they try their best to make everyone comfortable! My friend and I opted for one of the covered outdoor seating options. We quickly ordered inside and then went back to the table to wait. Leona texts you when your order is ready, and then you can go back inside to pick it up at the bar. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant and a latte. Both were delicious! The pastries are all from Rockman bakery. There is also a food truck serving tacos and similar food outside. AUSTIN HAS A NEW BEST COFFEE HOUSE! Whoever is in second place is twenty yards back. * * * Imagine you went to a garden store/nursery except that they didn't sell plants and flowers. They sold coffee and food and you could stay there all day. This is what Leona's is really like. There are trees and greenery and a pond and wandering paths and tables everywhere. Everything is very eco/bio/green-o/plants-everywhere-o. I don't live anywhere remotely near Sunset Valley. But if I did, I would be here all the time. * * * Their elote latte is one of the most interesting coffee drinks in Austin - rivalled only by the Mont Blanc at Neon Belly. Yes, it is a corn latte with a set of corn based sweeteners that work really well. (If the sweeteners are euphemisms for corn syrup ... I forgive them in advance. Corn syrup would have just atoned for all of its sins. However, I think their secret corn ingredients are something else.) This was a drink that was love at first sight. * * * Their blueberry muffins are insanely good. That last sentence is one I never thought I would ever write in the State of Texas. Blueberries in the Pacific Northwest are almost always to die for. Blueberries in the Midwest can be to die for if you go to the right farmstand. New England and New York State can have good blueberries if you look assiduously. Texas Blueberries? Up there with Hormel Canned Chili. So to get an outstanding blueberry muffin in Texas was not something I was expecting. * * * A huge amount of the appeal of Leona's is the ambience and the "food trucks". Leona's consists of four outbuildings built around a park in the center. There is plenty of seating in the park. Most people sit there. Samuel C. and the Great Texas Outdoors do not get along. It is either too hot, too cold, too rainy or too something else. (Oobleck. Whatever.) However, the building where Leona's serves the coffee has windows and you can see all the glory of that without putting up with the Official Texas State Bird. (Google says the Texas State Bird is the Northern Mockingbird. Anyone who has lived in Texas longer than 48 hours knows that the Official State Bird is the Mosquito. You eating outdoors is you volunteering to donate blood for the preservation of the Texas Mosquito population.) Looking out the window from inside however, the view is outstanding. Being in a park with air conditioning and protection from mosquitos? Count me in! * * * The crowd is as cool as cool can be. (South Austin rolls in coolness - while having residents smart enough not to fall for paying New East Side rents.) You get reflected coolness just from sitting next to these people. Spend ten afternoons drinking coffee at Leona's and SXSW will cut 30% off the price of your badge or wristband You are exactly the type of person SXSW tries to attract. If you play in a band, your band will get a slot in a showcase immediately. It is hard to not like coolness like that. (Yelp Management: Do not believe Samuel C. on the SXSW price discount. We will deal with Samuel C. in our own way.) * * * One of the neatest thing about Leona's is that they have three food trucks that are not food trucks. They took outstanding food truck vendors and gave them mini-brick and mortar establishments - smaller than a real restaurant but bigger than your standard food truck. I think the almost-brick-and-mortar concept is absolutely outstanding. Now to be sure, I have not eaten at any of the three food vendors on site. (Actually two food vendors with one locked in and forthcoming.) But the one I know - Veracruz Tacos is top of the line. I am fantasizing that a food truck can do more with the kind of space Leona's is giving them than they can with a standard food truck. This theory however needs empirical test. * * * That said, I am willing to just go down there even with no food trucks, look at the scenery, drink amazing coffee drinks and eat fantastic baked goods. Apparently from the situation in the enormous parking lot - So are 638,542 people. The parking lot which is massive for a coffee house still can't hold the armies and armies of people who want to hang out at Leona's. Brodie is hard to park on, so people spill over into strange parking lots and distant neighborhoods. But ... you know ... For an elote latte ... And the chance to pretend I am more amazing than the latest just-discovered songwriter being played on KVRX ... For those two things, I would park in a Lowe's and walk across the street. First time was an okay experience but this rating is mostly about the food. Came here on a Sunday mid-day which was a mistake in the sense that parking was horrible. The parking lot is way too small for how many people come out to this space so if you are looking for good parking you might want to come on their "off hours". After spending 30 minutes trying to find parking we finally got into the Botanical Garden space which is quite nice! All your drinks are placed inside the Cafe & Bar on your right hand side as you walk in. Currently there are 2 dining spaces to eat at which is Dee Dees and Veracruz, I've been wanting to try Dee Dee for some time so after some time my friend and I settled on what we wanted to share together and placed our order. All seating is first come first serve and most of it is outside so you may want to check the weather before coming out, there is very limited indoor seating which might be a problem in the summer time. Our food came out rather quickly, we ordered the Noodle dish with mushrooms, onions, Thai basil and a sweet/spicy sauce, papaya salad, and roasted chicken. Everything was delicious especially the noodles which had a super fresh texture and the mushrooms really added to it! This space is a cool spot but is overly crowded, will probably be back when the hype dies down some. If you have kids it's very kid friendly and has a playground onsite. read more

Lovely Atmosphere - Be Mindful of the Spice. I finally had a chance to visit Leona Botanical Café & Bar after several attempts, as parking can be a challenge. I went for an early birthday dinner with my oldest daughter, and the outdoor ambiance was relaxed and inviting. Since it was Sunday evening, there were quite a few children running around on the play scape area. I had a Margarita; since it was National Margarita Day and for dinner opted for Dee Dee's Thai food. The papaya salad, while fresh, was extremely spicy--so much so that I couldn't enjoy it. It would be helpful to include a spice level warning on the menu. My tofu and vegetable entrée was also heavier on the spice than expected. I typically love spicy food, but I also want to be able to taste the flavors. My daughter had steak and Migas tacos from Veracruz and loved them. Despite this, I'm excited to have Leona in the neighborhood. I live nearby and will return to try other dishes and enjoy the outdoor atmosphere again. read more

Such a cute spot to hang out on the weekend! I came with my family to meet with another family on a Sunday afternoon. Parking was tough. We ended up parking at Lowe's across the street and walking over. Lots of seating outside under trees and playground for kids. There's also a patio, under shade with fans and indoor seating. You can order coffee, beer or cocktails at the bar. There's also Veracruz and a Thai spot. I got a matcha latte. Overall, we spent a few hours there and it was relaxing. Highly recommend! read more

There is a lot of spaces, it is just so many people! The scenery is so beautiful. There is also a fire pit with seating. It was not difficult being able to sit inside with the bar. The seats were so comfortable. The line was constantly long but the wait time for a drink wasn't bad. The staff was calm and inviting. I ordered watermelon basil margarita. The drink was refreshing and not skimpy on the alcohol. The botanical fruit tea was good too and it was a good size! The bathrooms were clean so that was a plus. Beautiful and peaceful spot. Kid and dog friendly. On a gorgeous day this is the perfect location. The water feature is a lovely and relaxing feature. We got lucky and found a table right next to it. They offer coffee and alcoholic beverages. Drinks are a little pricey, but hey welcome to Austin lol for food you have two options. Dee Dee's or Veracruz All Natural. If you visit the Leona website you can place an order there or walk up to their windows to order. Both pretty solid options. We went with Dee Dee's. I will note they do need more dog water bowls. I wasn't able to find one and there were not many dogs when we arrived. This place does get packed quickly. Come earlier in the day if it's a pretty day. People will flock here in droves. Parking will be hard to come by. Best bet to rideshare or park nearby. Lines for drinks will get lengthy too. My only wonder with this spot is how they do when it's cold or raining. The majority of the venue is outdoors. There are some seats indoors, but it's not very large. read more

No pro tip, yet. I do, however, look forward to returning once it's a bit more established. I got there earlier, around 9:30 AM ON A Friday, and not much was open other than the cafe. The space is quite abundant and will be perfect on those favored 75-85 degree weather days. On colder days there are heaters, but I'm not sure how this space will fair out on the many 100 degree days we have out in Austin. We'll have to wait and see! The staff at the cafe is great, and provide the needed service one will look for when at the cafe. Drinks are quite pricey, and they can benefit from an imprved Wifi works well, and you'll see that many remote workers will be here, so plan accordingly. With that being said, similar to other reviewers, I can see this being best appropriate for remote workers, and not so much for families with kids. read more

Finally got to check out Leona a few months after their grand opening. Things I loved: outdoor food hall concept with Veracruz and DEEDEE Thai food in addition to their coffee shop. I'd love to see them add more options in the future. The texting system when food is ready is pretty convenient and there seemed to be plenty of seating options even on a busy midday Saturday. I got the Pad KaPow and Thai Fried Chicken from DEEDEE and both were excellent! I wish they offered different meat options for the Pad Ka Pow (pork isn't my usual go-to) but the flavors were on point and it was very filling despite it being a tad on the pricier side ($17) The Thai fried chicken were more like chicken bites ($11) but it was super flavorful. It took about 15 minutes to get my order, but it worked out since it bought be enough time to get a drink at the coffee shop and secure a table beforehand. My overall wish is that DEE DEE serves more protein options and adds some noodle dishes as well to their lineup. I got iced green tea from the coffee shop. The line moved fairly quickly but I felt like their offerings were a bit on the expensive side for what you get. I did try a churro croissant my friend got, and it was one of the best I've ever had. The overall gardens are still in their infancy stage, but I can see the potential! It's an overall nice hangout spot with seating in nature. My biggest complaint about Leona is parking is really down to the luck of the draw. We had to park nearby and walk over, while our friend who arrived later than us was able to snag a spot. I was lucky to visit during their soft opening and everyone was hustling! The employees stayed kind and professional and even gave recommendations when they could have just turned & burned since there was a line to mostly everything. That's what happens when a brand new, highly anticipated spot opens. If you don't want waits, I recommend giving it a few weeks after opening. Ambiance: loved it!! Such a nice spot with ample seating and beautiful nature to enjoy under the twinkle lights. Food: wow Dee Dee's was everything I wanted and more. We ordered the dumplings (the sauce was SO good), the skewers and the roasted chicken. Everything was really good. I'll definitely be back. Drinks: we ordered the Thai tea old fashioned. South Austin got a new cafe and it's cuteeee. There is a parking lot but it was packed when I went around 5 pm on a weekday. Love sitting outside and enjoying the views. There's also a cafe with WiFi (this is where you order drinks). They currently have two food vendors-Veracruz and Dee Dee. If you're in Austin, Veracruz is a solid taco place (they have so many locations) and you really can't go wrong with any of their tacos. This time, we ordered Dee Dee (Thai food). I had it once in college and thought it was superrrr spicy (but delicious) and was excited/nervous to try this again. Got Pad KaPow and Laab Moo. Beautiful space with lots of room to sit and visit! Drink service was speedy. However parking is tough and may have to park across the way and walk over or circle around until a spot opens up. Coffees are all 12 oz and while good, overpriced. No modifications comes out to a $7 latte. Not pictured, but noteworthy is the frozen vegan horchata ($10). I've been super excited about Leona opening up as we've desperately needed a spot like this is South Austin (a bit more south than cosmic and radio, which i do love both), and after 3 times where I couldn't get parking or didn't want to wait on crazy lines I was finally able to get in. I will say this place has the potential to be 5 star cant miss Austin experience and I hope it does! The grounds and space are both beautiful - the pond, the botanical gardens, the seating areas. The buildings are nice and the coffee shop is so nice and can be a good place to chill or do work inside or out! Really liked my coffee and the Rockman bakery churro croissant was excellent. I am a huge fan of Vera Cruz so having that makes me super happy. I grabbed some food from Dee Dees which i didn't like, and it was a bit pricey, but it could have just been the dish I had. I think the growing pains they need to fix to truly make it a 5-star spot is keeping it clean - we saw some of the seats weren't super clean and the hand wash area (great idea!) and trash areas weren't that clean. I hope they are able to just address some of these issues and look forward to coming back here and for it to be one of those spots that I have to bring back friends/family visiting! read more

The matcha here isn't the best I've had, but definitely not the worst either. It has a bold matcha flavor, which I appreciated, but I usually prefer mine a bit sweeter. Still, it was enjoyable overall. I did end up adding more honey in mine to sweeten it up. One of their drinks that had bitter melon in it was very refreshing though! The jellies added some nice sweetness to it which I enjoyed. What really makes this place stand out is the vibe. You can bring your dog, there's plenty of space, and the whole area is beautifully decorated with a botanical garden feel, lots of greenery and a relaxing, nature-filled atmosphere. At night, the string lights make it even more charming. Another perk is the location: it's conveniently right next to spots for tacos, Thai food, and more. Even if the matcha wasn't my perfect cup, the ambiance alone makes it worth a visit. I would love to return to try their food. If you go on the weekend, parking might be tough to find. The space is beautiful!! So much seating area although they will need more covered seating for the summer months. The kids area is nice for families. There is parking but as the location is new, the parking situation isn't the best at the moment. The Thai tea old fashion was my favorite on the menu! The Negroni was also great. Lines are long as they are new so expect 20 minute wait in line for drinks and maybe 30-40 minutes wait for food ordering. read more

If you are an adult and want to pay 9.00 for an iced coffee or 15 .00 for a glass of wine then this place is perfect for you. If you are a family and don't want to be hidden in back amongst the butterfly garden away from the rest of your family and friends, at a playground that most kids under say 5-6 can't even play on, this isn't the place for you. Parking is ridiculous. There is so much space to have the playground in front of the restaurant where you can actually socialize with your friends, would seem to have been a better choice for someplace that insists it's "family friendly". We have been several times and we will happily not be returning. It's disappointing. read more

Location & atmosphere 5/5, Veracruz Tacos 5/5, wait times & parking 2/5 but potential to improve? Visiting Austin so went to Leona since it had just opened. It's an open air (with some covered/shaded seating) food hall that had limited options when I was there November 16. Veracruz was the only lunch option open at noon which made wait times extremely long with the number of people there. The cafe & bar line on the other side of the courtyard was extremely long as well. It's a great area to relax and enjoy company, but come earlier if you're hungry since it took 40 min in line and another 30 min for our food to be ready. If ordering drinks from the cafe & bar, highly recommend you go with another person to divide and concur those lines. We lucked out with a parking spot with one car leaving as we pulled around; however, parking is tight and the curved lane does not help with the compact parking spaces. I'm unsure where we would've parked had our timing not been perfect since the lines/wait times = slow turnover. Leona has a lot of potential once additional food/drink options open within it and parking may get better as the newness wears off? read more
