I wish I could give Dr. Tyko and his staff the sun and moon because 5 stars doesn't even touch the experience I had today while receiving an implant. I have my implants with local anesthesia as opposed to IV sedation because it keeps my focus on point and I'm able to drive to and from my appt. Honestly, it's such a joyful experience to be present during the procedure because I not only remain comfortable and relaxed, but more importantly, get to enjoy the fun banter amongst Dr. Tyko and his lovely staff. Dr. Tyko tore my gums apart as he sawed out a tooth. Blood was everywhere, on me, him and the chair. I developed a Dry Socket after the surgery. He told me to tough it out and then agreed to "dress" it. I was in a lot of pain. He was nonplussed. I contacted another Oral Surgeon. He said my jaw was a tangled mess. He reconstructed my jaw. Needless to say, I would NEVER recommend that anyone see Dr. Tyko. read more

I needed to find a local practice for an extraction of a problematic wisdom tooth. After much research, I chose this practice to perform the procedure. Just upon entering the office, I was really impressed with the overall appearance of the office. The office staff was amazingly helpful and cheerful. The staff attending me in the procedure room were the same. I was attended by the other doctor in the practice, Dr. Rogers. I experienced the same comfort and caring as with the rest of the staff. On January 8 I drove over from Oakdale CA to have a molar extracted and an implant started. I had been here before and was so impressed with Dr Tyco's compassion and professionalism. I am a chronic pain pain patient and it can be more difficult to manage our pain than the average duck. I was expecting this procedure to be like the first one. I wen't home and started recovering. I called in for a refill on pain medication and he flat out said NO! I was shocked!! Lest procedure he had refilled my procedure no questions asked and I continued a comfortable recovery. This was awful!! He hadn't spoken to me or my chronic pain Dr first about it. But told me I needed to follow up with my chronic pain Dr! What?? I spent 2 days getting a hold of her, I had a horrible head ache and was nauseous and vomiting from the pain. I think I would go back, but I would have a better plan for after cart And Thank you to all of his staff for running around and asking questions for me. read more

Highly recommend Dr. Tyco & team for extraction and implant. They are a great team too! A caring, considerate, supporting team. Couldn't have been a better experience. I was quite nervous about going in, especially just using the laughing gas (Friends and family cautioned me not to do that, to be put under totally instead, but I had to be able to drive afterwards as I live far away on the North coast and had no one to drive me. I had to be alert enough to drive after, and within a few minutes, I was abke to walk out the door and drive myself). But a friend and neighbor (who is even more nervous than I about surgeries) highly recommended them (and I know he really did the research to find them!) Not only was the laughing gas not a problem, but the process was endurable, there was no pain during, and everything went like clockwork. Twice! I had to do this process twice (2 fractured teeth from night grinding), a few months apart, and both times same exact experience. First tooth healed perfectly and the 2nd is on the way (a week sfter.) They were all caring considerate; Dr. Tyko is absolutely amazing (and he is an MD, as well as a dentist.) Very gentle, steps you through the process, and very considerate of your emotional or physical needs. They provide lots of gauze after (you fold 2 pieces in half twice and hold that gentle where the surgery was until it stops bleeding, swapping it out with fresh every half hour. (Both of mine had stopped bleeding within the hour post-op.) Instructions are also not to do any strenuous work because of course it's gonna raise your blood pressure and put more pressure on that spot thus causing it to bleed more. So Plan to keep activities light afterwards. Note: I have a fairly strong fortitude, but even I needed rest after. The first time, I attempted to drive all the way home but stopped halfway and rented a room in Jenner as I felt so lethargic (body needs rime to recover.) So this time, I rented a room in Santa Rosa and after the bleeding was for sure stopped, I slept for 5 hours after! Just things to consider when planning for your op! Now, after 2 of these (age 62) I wear my nightguard consistently. (Thought I was invincible when I was younger!) Again, hands down great experience with Dr. Tyco & Team!!! read more

By chance I drove by his office and decided to schedule a consult. His staff is always professional, pleasant to interact with, knowledgeable and patient. Dr. Tyko is the best oral surgeon I could imagine: Professional, competent and caring. I have a fear of needles, but Dr. Tyko gave me injections (in preparation for pulling a tooth and performing a dental implant) that I truly could not feel, not one bit -- even though I usually feel the shots, despite prior numbing of the gum area. The pulling of the tooth was quick and totally painless, as was the implant. This was a couple of years ago, but it is never too late to give praise where praise is due. Of course, there was no guarantee since I had a tremendous amount of bone loss going into the surgery, but he never gave up on me. Dr. Tyko has performed 3 tooth extractions for my 6 year old. He is a remakably professional and caring physician who my son finds very interesting. Dr. Tyko is very good with kids and understands what parents are thinking when they hear that a tooth has to be pulled. I had put off having my wisdom teeth out until I had a major problem. My dentist recommended Dr. Tyko and I am so glad they did! I have sleep apnea, so anesthesia was out of the question for me. Dr. Tyko was very kind, professional, gentle and caring. I got a valium to take before the procedure and the laughing gas during the procedure. There were several injections involved, but with Dr. Tyko's skill I did not feel much at all. My wisdom teeth had large roots and Dr. Tyko was quick and gentle at getting them all out. Afterwards I went home to rest and got a call from the doctor later that day to see how I was. My healing was very quick with minimal discomfort. Dr. Tyko removed two of my wisdom teeth and inserted an implant. He hit one of my nerves and I have not had any feeling from my bottom lip to my chin for 5 years now. When I went to see him 6 months after it happened he literally said "eh, at least its not your whole face, it could be worse." It cannot be fixed and I will never regain feeling in that part of my face ever again. I know that accidents happen and thats why you sign a waiver before hand but the way he handled the situation and brushed me off as if it were no big deal is what disturbs me the most. I normally don't write reviews, but I had to make an exception for this wonderful firm. Long story short, I knocked my front teeth out while mountain biking. After seeing an emergency dentist, I was told I needed oral surgery immediately and was referred to Dr. Tyko. He saw me the same day. Other oral surgeons should take notes on this guy. He's very professional, down to earth, and seemed genuinely concerned about my recovery. He answered all of my questions and was very transparent, and was even quick to return my phone call when I had a question for him. Even though he wasn't covered by my insurance, I will absolutely return to him for my second surgery in the next month simply because I feel at ease knowing that he'll be handling the procedure. I was referred to Dr Vafaie by my wonderful Dentist, Dr. Yee for a root canal. Once there it was determined that the tooth needed to be extracted. I suffer from extreme anxiety when having any dental work done and my Dentist prescribed Valium to take one hour prior to seeing any dentist which I had taken prior seeing Dr Vafaie thinking I was having a root canal done. When I went for my appointment with Dr Tyko (after being cancelled last Friday due to a family emergency of Dr. Tyko's) I appeared today for my extraction. As all my prior dental visits, as prescribed by my Dentist, I took my 5mg Valium one hour before my appointment. I waited 30 minutes past my appointment time for Dr. Tyko to enter the room to tell me he could not treat me because I am impaired and can't consent to the surgery. Even though he admitted I didn't seem impaired... which I was NOT. He refused to treat me and sent me on my way with more anxiety to face another day. I understand the legality but a Valium to relax me enough to get through the door of a Dentists Office does not impair a person. The stress of cancelling a person who has a phobia of Dentists only to send them away again to face another day is incomprehensible. If I could give 0 stars I would. Additionally the girl that would be assisting the dentist, and I wish I could remember her name, does not exactly give a warm reception or an understanding of patients that have a true fear of dentists. I will have my excellent Dentist, Dr. Yee, refer me to someone that is understanding of my condition and will not consider 5mg of Valium an impairment of a person to sign a consent form. In fact an impaired person could not fill out all the paperwork and list all the medications they take and surgeries they have had.... Shame on you Dr. Tyko!!! read more

This past winter, I finally reached the point where I was in so much pain and was having so much trouble chewing that I needed to get my wisdom teeth removed ASAP after a decade of procrastination. My partner and I had "shopped around" for a regular dentist for years, but hadn't found anyone we liked well enough to see twice, other than Dr. Robert Grove in Santa Rosa, a holistic dentist who specializes in root canals, but doesn't do extractions or cleanings. Dr. Grove's office recommended Dr. Tyko. Great recommendation! Dr. Tyko and his staff did a wonderful job explaining my options and fitting me into their crowded schedule when I needed immediate attention. I never felt rushed, even though Dr. Tyko is obviously a very busy man between his private practice and his role as the head of dental surgery at Santa Rosa Memorial. I also want to note I have had such a terrible experience at Santa Rosa Memorial that I was hesitant to call Dr. Tyko due to his affiliation with the hospital. I am sooooooo glad I gave Dr. Grove's recommendation more weight than the nightmare that is SRMH. I was super nervous the day of my surgery. Really, terrified. But Dr. Tyko has a wonderful bedside manner and made me as comfortable as possible going under. For the first time in my life, I didn't even feel sick when I awoke from the anesthesia. And Dr. Tyko's skills are 100% legit. My surgery was a few months ago and my mouth has healed beautifully without any complications. So why am I deducting the final star? OVER-PRESCRIBED OPIATES! I repeatedly and clearly let Dr. Tyko know that I am very sensitive to these drugs, that they give me nausea and generally make me crazy, and that I didn't want the drugs unless he was really thought I would need them. So when he prescribed 20 mid-strength Percocet, I took the prescription and trustingly followed the marching orders. I was told and believed I should take the pills before I even felt any pain. HUGE mistake! 24 hours after surgery, I was swallowing my vomit to avoid compromising the open wounds in my mouth. Fortunately, this was happening during business hours, so Dr. Tyko's office was able to call in a prescription for an anti-nausea drug that my partner was able to pick up immediately. And sure, I wasn't in any pain, but I was also sobbing because I thought I was dead. I had taken maybe 5 of the percocet when my mother gave me the logical advice to stop and reminded me that 30 years ago, before this opiate epidemic took root in our for-profit healthcare system, she had her wisdom teeth removed and was totally fine with only ibuprofen. And sure enough, a few hours after that last percocet, I started to feel like myself again and the pain was completely manageable with ibuprofen. Actually, I could have used prescription painkillers before the surgery, but my guess is that Dr. Tyco doesn't offer those prescriptions in order to avoid supplying junkies. Dr. Tyco should trust that he does an excellent job as a surgeon and that he doesn't need to rely so much on these nasty opiates for recovery. I absolutely will use Dr. Tyko for any oral surgery needs that arise as long as Iive in Sonoma County, but I'll be certain to more adamantly remind him of my sensitivities. read more

5 stars for Dr. Tyko!!! Last week I had surgery to remove two very large mandibular tori by Dr. Tyko and I can honestly say that I experienced zero pain. I can't believe those huge things were taken out of my mouth and recovery was so quick and easy. No pain, no bruising, no swelling. It's like I have a brand new mouth! I had a lot of good information for pre- and post-op care, including food suggestions. I had been somewhat anxious about the discomfort I thought would surely result from this surgery, but It was so easy, I'm sorry I didn't do it sooner. Dr. Tyko was calm, gentle, reassuring, and just plain nice. I think he's great. And all the staff were most kind and helpful. I hope I don't need more oral surgery anytime soon, but I would definitely put my faith in Dr. Tyko. read more

Dr. Tyko is one of the most patronizing doctors I've ever met. He doesn't answer questions directly and is smug and arrogant. During my last appointment, he directly ignored my question and belittled me for asking. In addition, some of the nurses were brusque and impatient following my surgery. During my surgery, I overheard Dr. Tyko say three times "no, don't use that, it's too expensive." This is so unprofessional and upsetting. I was also grossly overcharged when I compared the cost with another oral surgeon who I found out about later, sadly. The only people who are friendly in this office are the staff at the front desk. If you want drugs pushed on you and service refused ( i was refused care due to refusing to be put under for a minor back tooth extraction) because this dentist cares only about his day, not you or your feelings and definitely could care less if you care about chemicals being put into your own body. 5 stars for not having compassion or empathy and for stringing me along for over 3 weeks, when I could have been researching an oral surgeon who cares and doesn't force DRUGS! Such as ROBERT JARVIS. It's like night and day and I am very angry that I have had to deal with the amount of pain and being unable to work for weeks due to dr. Typos lack of competence, ability to listen and understanding. And if u want an excellent dentist who doesn't force drugs and has compassion Dr FORD! When my dentist referred me and sent my charts over Dr. Tyko was some what nervous because the nerve on my bottom jaw looked to be really close to the extraction area. His staff helped me arrange a CT scan of my lower jaw through my medical insurance to ensure he was in the clear and lucky for me he was :) The consultation went great and I felt really comfortable with Dr. Tyko and his staff. Day of the extraction went as smooth as you could imagine. The staff made me feel really comfortable. After the extraction I wasn't in as much pain as I thought I should have been? Yes people, he is that good! And my extraction wasn't easy, my lower wisdom teeth were completely side ways and had not ruptured, Dr. Tyko had to actually break my teeth and extract them from the top instead of cutting the gum. You can't find a more caring, careful, professional oral surgeon on the west coast. I just had one molar pulled and two implants put in my very sensitive mouth and I am writing this review 12 hours after the procedure. Dr. Tyko went over everything at our initial consultation and I was prepared for a couple of days of bed rest and a bit of pain and having to do those terrible pain killers. I took an anti-biotic and a pain pill when I got home and waited for the novocaine to wear off. It wore off about 4 hours after the procedure and to my surprise I had almost completely stopped bleeding and the oozing was very minimal and I didn't need the pain pill as there was almost no pain. Not even when the pain pill wore off 4 hours later, I am still mostly pain free, just a little soreness. Nothing that an Advil won't take care of. I don't even have any swelling at all. This is very rare as I usually swell up like crazy after a procedure like this. Dr Tyko's chair-side manner and his staff are top notch and their first class treatment is evident in every part of the visit to their upscale office. Even the space in the rooms is bigger than average and the place is very well designed and immaculate. The ladies upfront are sweet as sugar, ok stevia, sugar is getting a bad rap these days, and the assistants make you feel right at home as they prepare you for your treatment. When Dr. Tyko came in and inserted the IV, painlessly I might add, he gave me that feeling of re-assurance that was just what I needed to hear before drifting off to dreamland while they performed their magic. When I awoke, once again I felt totally at ease. The ladies had a caring smile on their faces and a quiet tone to their voices. They assisted me in coming back to reality and getting me into my ride home. This is so different from any other oral surgery I have ever had, and I've had 4 other similar treatments. Dr. Tyko even personally gave me a call later in the day to check up on me. Thats what I call a really concerned, caring and dedicated oral surgeon. I recommend Dr. Tyko with the hopes that you will take the time to get an opinion from the best. This is the only oral surgeon I will ever use again. If I'm at my place in Maui, I'm coming over here to get the work done.
