We were abruptly told by a little rude waiter that we were late, he made such a fuss I thought he was going to say he couldn't seat us but then he gave us a table in the corner outside! The table was uncomfortably small (we are not big people) it was cramped! We ordered some drinks and apps and within about 20 mins I had water dripping down my back and on my arms which I thought was raindrops! I realized that actually it was water leaking from the apartment drains above. The water was also hitting the table and going in our food! We asked to be moved indoor where there were tables but we were promptly told to shift to the table next to ours outside. We did so but realized more water coming down on the food! When I complained and said it's unacceptable, the waiter asked do we want a table inside? Lol, so now you have space but before you didn't! The waiter just shrugged and said it's normal when you have apartments above! Absolutely disgusting attitude and rude treatment of paying customers! We left without finishing our contaminated food! We paid for it but there was no compensation or apology! Don't bother going here, most other restaurants we went to we received excellent service and pleasant people!

Our observations were that the staff was very uncomfortable with English which made the experience very difficult for us as we could not ask questions, clarify the menu, were charged for supplements in a way which was not clear or specified on the menu (no pricing was on the English menu), overcharged for drinks we did not ask for yet were brought to us. Beyond the language difficulties, the service felt very rushed and hasty as we were being pushed through the courses. There was no sense of intimacy or special care/attention paid to the guest which we expect for a fine dining experience like this. In the end, although we noticed multiple up charges we had no way to communicate this to the staff as they could not understand. We decided it would be better to just pay and leave. Perhaps the experience would be different if we were fluent in French -however all of our reservations, prior email communications with the hotel staff, website all used English so we assumed they were welcome to English speakers. TLDR: not the best experience for those not fluent in French, next time I would skip and do a few of the multiple 1 Michelin stars in Lyon (just 30 min away) which provide much better value and high level of service.

The staff takes care of you no matter what interaction you have with them. Rooms, exceedingly comfortable and just about perfect other than the shower. The Gastronomic Restaurant is maybe the best deal in the world at lunch for a 2 Michelin star restaurant. Sitting outside under a canopy of trees and tents, impeccable service and a 67 Euro lunch which includes 3 courses plus 3-4 additional smaller bites and even a half bottle of wine and coffee per person. My only regret is ordering the half bottle of Guigal white (from an admittedly limited list) which I knew better than to order, but just wasn't thinking. Oh well, mostly my fault. If you can make it to La Pyramide, do it. Wow, on all levels - especially the lunch.

When it's the last day of a fantastic two-week visit to France, and you're in Lyon, the country's…read moreculinary capital, and you fancy yourself a bit of a connoisseur who doesn't want to be disappointed, you have a real challenge on your hands when it comes to choosing a restaurant. Add to that the fact that it's Monday, when so many places seem to be closed, and your challenge is even greater. Fortunately for us, a reliable friend suggested (nay, insisted) that we visit this bouchon for our last dinner in France, and not wanting to upset him, and trusting his opinion implicitly, we phoned them up and got ourselves a table. When we arrived we were struck by several things--the small size of the establishment; the youth of the several young women who run the place; the limited menu; the low prices of the wines. We were also struck by how empty it was, since we were the first to arrive for dinner, just as they opened at 7pm. But before even ten minutes were up, the place was half-full, and before long, it was packed, and many people were turned away at the door who hadn't had the presence of mind to book in advance. As mentioned above the menu is small. In addition, they only do a "formule", comprising a salad course (which has no choices to be made) followed by a main, cheese and dessert, all for €27. As we sat down we were given a little amuse bouche, which I have to say was the one disappointment of the meal, being too dry and hard to swallow and not having much taste, but it was the one misstep of the evening. The salad course consisted of three dishes--a delightfully mustardy lentil salad; herring with tzatziki; and a cold terrine of eggplant with a tomato sauce on the side. When they were delivered to us, the server explained what they were so incredibly quickly that I could not follow it at all--it was only when we heard her explain it to a neighbouring table, and in English, that I picked up some of it (she spoke quickly in English, too), but I asked her again what it was and she patiently explained it again. For our mains, there were several choices to choose from and we chose the onglet with new potatoes for one of us, and the boudin with apples and herb salad. The onglet was cooked perfectly and had exquisite flavour, as did the potatoes accompanying it. But the boudin was something else--delicious black pudding in a filo pastry with apples and topped with a salad with parsley and other herbs. It was a great way to make a rather humble item--black pudding--into something elevated, and I enjoyed it immensely. Dessert was perhaps a bit less outstanding than the rest of the meal, though that's not to say that it was not good. But the choices were not as interesting to us (we have grown a bit tired of molten chocolate cake and sorbet) so we stuck to two items that were a bit different--lime cheesecake on the one hand, and "dessert à la praline" on the other. The former was fairly straightforward, with a bit of chestnut cream on top for good measure, while the latter was (to me) more interesting, a kind of semifreddo with red fruits and with praline mixed in, served with red fruit coulis. To go with our meal, we ordered a 'pot' of Crozes-Hermitage wine, which seemed a good buy at €14.50 and went very well with what we had ordered. This was an exceptional and exceptionally enjoyable evening in all respects, and the young ladies of the establishment have lived up to their reputation, as did the friend who recommended it to us.

Felt intentional. Four of us spoke fluent French so it wasn't that we were clueless tourists. He also dropped sauce on two guests. The server was more entertained with his own antics without any regard for how he was received. At one point one of our group asked if he minded that we were American and he assured us we were welcome but then didn't modify his behavior.

We chose one tartine each (party of 3) and cut them into thirds so we could each sample everything. - Tomato burrata tartine with balsamic: very fresh, pretty much what you would expect from a tomato/mozz sandwich - The special that I ordered was pork with polenta and olives. It was amazing!!!!! - Croque Monsieur was also tasty - ham with tomato and cheese. We shared potatoes gratin and a bottle of wine. Really nice meal in a traditional Lyonnaise cafe. Cobblestone streets and adorable awnings - so picturesque!

I never had cottage cheese so fresh and light. No comparison to the one you get in the market. It was whipped with herbs and olive oil with a wonderful mouth feel. The dessert was a let down. A praline tart. I should have gone with the cheese plate, but I wanted to end with something different.

For those who are not familiar with the name Paul Bocuse, he was one of Lyon's greatest chefs who specialized in nouvelle French cuisine. He passed in January 2018, but left a lasting impression in the culinary world. He also operated a chain of brasseries in Lyon, named Le Nord, L'Est, Le Sud and L'Ouest, each of which specialize in a different aspect of French cuisine. I happened to also dine at Le Sud, so check out my review. In popular culture, Bocuse inspired the character of chef Auguste Gusteau in the 2007 animated film Ratatouille. Check out the movie if you haven't already, it's quite entertaining! Upon arrival at the restaurant, we were greeted at our car and escorted into the restaurant, where the restaurant team warmly welcomed us and showed us to our table in the grand dining room. The dining room was immaculate with sparkling chandeliers dangling from the ceiling. The attention to detail was impeccable. There was even a stool for my bag. To say the restaurant was fancy would be an understatement. For our visit, the 3 of us experienced tastings from the Centenary Menu (370 € per person not including beverages). With the wine, sparkling water, and juices, our bill came to a little over 1400 €. What can I say, we have an incredibly generous CEO who treats his team extremely well! Our menu consisted of the following: 1. Amuse-bouche (Lukewarm langoustine, crispy avocado and edible crab) 2. Frog legs 3. Quenelles of lobster and pikeperch, Champagne sauce & Tradition Elite caviar (CEO replaced the frog legs with this lobster dish) 4. Vegetable risotto with sorrel emulsion and its lentil tuile biscuit 5. Filet of sole 6. Green frosted Chartreuse 7. Whole truffled Bresse chicken PDO cooked in a bladder, cream sauce with morel mushrooms 8. Fresh and matured cheeses from our terroirs 9. Sorbet (CEO replaced cheese with the sorbet) 10. The Chocolate - a grand cru from Venezuela, puffed rice slivers, lemon caviar -OR- The Monts d'Or 'Bergeron' apricot flavored with passion berries and marjoram, tangy kalamansi juice The dishes were all phenomenal and beautifully plated. They were a true masterpiece, both visually stimulating and satisfying to the palette. If I have one critique, it would be the Green Frosted Chartreuse. I did not enjoy this dish only because the liquor poured over it was overwhelmingly strong. For parts not touched by the liquor, I enjoyed the refreshing taste. It would have been appreciated if the waiter inquired whether we preferred the dish with or without the liquor. The wait staff was very attentive and took excellent care of us. Overall, we had a lovely 4-hour dinner, from 8:00pm until midnight. It was quite an unforgettable experience and was the highlight of my trip to Lyon. I'm extremely grateful to my CEO for the opportunity to dine at this very fine establishment. I'm one lucky gal to work for such a wonderful company who appreciates its people!

Another reviewer said something to the effect of "yea, I guess if you like old-school, traditional,…read moregrand French fine dining, this place is probably OK for you...". Well... I guess we do, and it was far more than OK for us. Restaurant Paul Bocuse was a huge Bucket List item for both of us, and I haven't seen my wife smile that much in a long time. (L'Auberge du Pont de Collognes, otherwise known as Restaurant Paul Bocuse, opened in 1924 and celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2024. It is still, IMO, the grand dame of classic French cuisine, and greatly helped to make Lyon (where the Michelin Guide was founded) the foodie capital of the world. Today the restaurant holds 2 Michelin stars, down from the 3 stars (the highest gastronomic accolade in the world) it held for 55 years from 1965 to 2020. For the record, that's the longest holder of the prestigious 3 stars in the world. Paul died in 2018 at age 91, and then - in a move that's been called "an absurd and unfair decision" - in 2020 Michelin removed one star. I guess there are politics in everything). The meal was perfect, exquisite, extraordinary, memorable, wonderful - worth the trip and the cost. Service was perfect. Food was delicious, with several items making my "best things I've ever eaten in my life" list. There was nothing they could have done better. Nothing. The restaurant is gorgeous, and has been recently updated. My wife asked the sommelier to bring us 2 glasses of white wine he recommends (we were having a lot of fish) - with no guidance or price limit from her. I was a little anxious about their surprise cost (which I wouldn't learn until the end of the evening), and a little more anxious when she ordered a second glass... :-) The wines were both delicious, and paired perfectly with our meals. When the check came, one was $18 and the other was $36. The sommelier could have brought glasses that were much more expensive, but because she trusted him, he was kind and rewarded us with wines he actually likes that were quite inexpensive (by this restaurant's standards) - a very, very classy move in his part. ATTIRE - attire is always an issue when you're travelling abroad and only have 1 fancy meal planned. I didn't want to take up precious suitcase space lugging a sportcoat all across France for this one meal, so did some research and it seemed the restaurant did not require a jacket. So I packed a nice pair of slacks, an upscale golf shirt, and good shoes. I was the only male in our dining room without a coat on, but felt 100% welcomed, 100% comfortable, and I'd skip the sportcoat again (but to be clear, my pants, shirt and shoes were quite nice). She ordered 1 of the tasting menus, I ordered a different tasting menu. It was wonderful to share tastes and experience twice as many delicious bites. All in all, it was an exquisite and expensive evening (we knew it would be costly), but for us it was probably the finest meal either has ever eaten, and we've dined all over the world in some pretty damn good restaurants. Bucket list - check...!!! OMG, now we can't wait to go back...! :-)
