Explore the Calanques de Piana by foot, by bus or by boat.
The Corsican calanque are a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site. Chiseled by erosion, the jagged cliffs made of red alkaline granite are truly breathtaking. They resulted from distant volcanic activity. Contrasted against the jewel blue tones of the Mediterranean, it is really a magical sight to see.
Corsica is a volcanic island. The red rocks of the calanques have been sculpted by hundreds of years of storms, winds and erosion. Amazing to see what geological works have been created by nature. Look for the "Heart of the Calanche" along the drive. An absolutely stunning landscape.
Visited on a one of the rare times that we took a cruise shore excursion, but this was an unexpected highlight of our vacation. Loved visiting this unique part of Corsica. Kudos to the bus driver for navigating the narrow, cliffside, winding roads. A must see in Corsica. read more
