The espresso they serve is Café Napoléon, a Montréal roaster. The latte I ordered was very average, a bit too strong actually, and the croissant I got alongside it was unfortunately bland. My husband had a double espresso which he found acceptable, and a veggie sandwich he told me satisfied his hunger. I took a bite from it and did not particularly enjoy it; the bread and the marinated vegetables were very ordinary, especially for a $8 sandwich. I know plenty of places that sell better food and coffee for cheaper or equal prices, and find myself surprised that such a coffee shop would open and successfully sustain in St-Henri. I do hope the owners will find a better formula, else I'm tempted to predict a short life for Zec Café. I hope for them that I'm wrong.

After I ordered a cappuccino, we chitchatted a bit about a postcard that I noticed on the shelf. It reminded my most memorable trip to Thailand. The server was very sweet; she asked me if I wanted cinnamon or chocolate over my cappuccino; it's really rare that someone asks me this. As I went for one of these walks a long time ago, I noticed the H8S Cafe and I have wanted to go ever since. We went on a "local adventure" yesterday and one of our stops was finally this cafe! And now, I wish that I lived right next door... except I would just end up living in this cafe probably. The food is so delicious. I got a ham and cheese croissant with spinach and red pepper sauce and I am drooling just thinking about it. I could eat that every day. The hot chocolate was also REAL hot chocolate and it was exactly what I wanted. When with the chocolate chip cookie we got, I was extremely happy. The service was fast and the man working was really kind. He was open to chatting for a bit and you can just tell he's great with his customers. A fellow diner was on their computer doing a video call using headphones, so it's wonderful people can do that here too if they need to. (Without being disruptive). There are spots outside you can sit at too but we had come in for a small break from our adventure so we were happy and comfortable sitting where it was cooler. Place was busy too for a weekday afternoon, with bikers stopping in for a quick bite. I don't ride bikes, I drink coffee..and that's why I decided to stop in! I grabbed a tall lavender coffee with almond milk for 5.50$ and sat on the little patio upfront to enjoy my java. The scent of lavender was intense upon my first sip but I quickly got accustomed to the odd flavour and thoroughly enjoyed my cup of joe; the espresso was not very acidic and the almond milk was perfectly sweet, so overall, this coffee was perfectly balanced! Maybe it was the lavender or maybe it was the summer like weather, but I felt totally zen and content. The price may be a little higher then other shops in the corner who offer better coffee but the scenic view and odd lavender coffee has intrigued me enough to return for the spiced latte...stay tuned.

Marius has an open-air terrace on St Catherine, which makes it a fun place for people watching on that pedestrian section of the busy street. I was also pleasantly surprised with how the neighbourhood evolved since last time I went to the former red light district. I would go back (and have gone back)
