More of a bar type atmosphere, La Boule d'Or is a fun place to have a drink and a simple dinner. Unfortunately, there are very few veggie/fish options so I was limited to tomatoes and shrimps or toasties with mushrooms. My boyfriend settled for the former and I the latter. I wasn't that impressed with my dish BUT did love the homemade fries and mayo! My boyfriend's dish was a lot better and normally I don't like that dish but was pleasantly surprised! For dessert, we all ordered different things, I loved my panna cotta with red berries!! With water, this all came to 15 eur, which is, in my opinion, a steal. As a note, this restaurant only serves meals of the day that are listed on a blackboard, so no menu.

I utterly hated the carrots with cinnamon. Eggs are odd to get, there is a specific protocol and though the "walking through the kitchen" concept is fun, most dishes available are a bit odd... The drinks policy is 2, one warm and one cold, though water is refillable. I do miss things like fruit salad, varieties of eggs, pancakes, cake, avocado, bacon and so on...

It used to be a garage (I suppose ?!?) and they turned it now into a lunch place. They used second hand furniture and even the plates are old vintages one. The decoration is really cool. What I like about the place is that it is very easy-going. You can just go and have a coffee with your kids, work a bit, have a bite, etc. The food is also very good. There is only one menu a day, and it changes everyday. You can pick the small or the big menu ( 2 or 3 courses). Everything is organic and fresh - and you taste it. It's an open kitchen so you see them cooking. They have local brussels beer and they know what they're talking about. The restaurant is connected to a second had bookstore "Pele Mele". So it's fits perfectly the concept. Best thing about the place: it's not expensive at all !!! I will go every time I am in Belgium :)

This is one of the few restaurants open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner. Serving fresh local produce in a relaxed communal atmosphere for very reasonable prices, they do not take reservations and the wait for brunch can be 30 minutes or more (in Brussels this is considered an extremely long wait)! We went to the newer and larger second location, which looks like an office building or private residence from the outside, except for the signage in the window. It's serve yourself buffet style, with dishes that change every half hour. For brunch there was an assortment of five breads, including brioche, nut, sweet egg, and whole wheat, to croissants. Three types of jams, three types of butters, a pumpkin turnip soup, a mandarin orange endive salad, a sausage and onion casserole, a parsley oil tzatziki, tabbouleh, an assortment of cheese and fruit, soft boiled eggs, fresh ham, and for dessert a chocolate fondant with spiced whipped cream on the side. But I knew I wanted to get their most popular dish: chicken cordon bleu, and it truly was well fried and juicy. The terrace is big and kissed by the sun. Perfect in summer/spring and early autumn. Interiors are well thought and trendy, without being too much hipster. They have international press of the day as well, so while waiting for the food you can feel the newspaper touch and get updated with the news from the world. Very quiet.
