The deal allowed a range of scones with butter in foil, cream and jam in mini plastic pot. What it didn't allow was to opt for a cappuccino or latte - americano only. It was an ok deal with darn good coffee and good but not great scones. Irish butter and cream are fabulous, the scones were good portioned but the jam was the cheaper stuff. I had walked through the diner with a view to a main meal and got the impression that it was almost school canteen style with the food kept in Bain Marie trays and it put me off a bit. It was a queue and pay system. I ordered, paid and brought our food to the table. We sat at a table outside the cafe in the centre concourse and a minute walk from M&S and it was a pleasant way to while away an hour or at least au whiled away an hour while my wife did some more shopping.

And when I say small I mean something like 8'x10'. Julie works behind the counter which is full of goodies scones and cupcakes that she's just baked today. Everything here is truly delicious. Julie is an extraordinary host welcoming you into what feels to be her kitchen. The town regulars stop in for a cup of coffee or just conversation. Even the priest was there to eat his breakfast. We stayed more than an hour speaking with the people coming and going into this very unique place. Needless to say the ambience feels like you're in her home. The coffee is just great. I ordered a cappuccino that was dusted with chocolate on top. Smooth and delicious. My wife enjoyed her latte very much. We ordered 2 savory crepes, the Vegetarian and the Smoky Yoke. My wife said that this was the best crepe she had ever enjoyed. What's amazing is the the crepe is thicker than what you usually receive and so it holds the contents without falling apart. And it has a great flavor. The crepes were absolutely great! Her scones are totally superb. My wife had a fruit scone and I had one with a name I don't remember. It was interestingly spiced, moist, with an incredible consistency. Athenry is about 20 minutes east of Galway. The small town is worth a visit. It's worth coming here just to eat at The Nook.

I still don't understand how a coffee place can get enough footfall to stay open when it is…read moresituated, as this place is, in a commercial estate on the outskirts of town especially as the products have a low price point. The Costa coffee store brand in Northern Ireland has a similar business model so it's much more common to find a Costa out of town; Starbucks not so much. So this place on the outskirts of Longford town is very close to a drive-thru Mc D and a few bargain stores. The whole area is drab and the upshot is if you want a cheap coffee that's not particularly good you can pay just over 2 euro at Mc D where the staff are lousy paid or go here for about 4 euro where the staff are equally lousy paid. My choice is the latter as the product is far superior and leave a tip. With Covid, a virus 10,000 times smaller than a grain of salt, queues and one door in one door out have become common as are face masks and hand sanitiser and here was no different despite being out of town. I queued here about 10 minutes. They supplied the sanitiser and the delightful young staff were eager to keep the store clean. Preferred payments now like so many places are card not cash.
