It would have been less relaxing. Must dos: Walk the beaches, main boulevard. Forville Market, Rue d'Antibes (shopping district), churches, casinos (bring your passport), old port, oh and of course the Cannes Film Festival, lol. Other things to do that we did not have time for: Lerins islands, Sainte Marguerite Island, any of the nearby islands (lol), painted walls, beaches, fortified monastery, etc. Ambiance - See above. Service - Overall good. Price - Expensive, but probably due to the Cannes Film Festival this week. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success.

Cannes is a beautiful city locally served by Nice airport which is approx 40 minutes from the city…read more The city is high end no way around it. The hotels are all very expensive, especially hotels situated across from the beach on boulevard de la Croisette. Hotel restaurants are all obscenely over priced. You can find better values in the old part of Cannes. The beaches are beautiful and free, many hotels setup bars and restaurants on the beach and include chair, towel and drink service. The shopping in the area is excellent if you are seeking the highest end brands from Europe, Louie Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel, Dior and Armani to name a few. I recommend checking the monthly weather reports for anticipated weather. We traveled in late October and it wasn't my choice as it was a business event. The weather wasn't great as it was cool and rainy. September on the other hand is beautiful.

Walk the Red Carpet…read more While we didn't actually walk the red carpet, it was interesting to see the festival being set up. It started the day after we visited Cannes. Lots of tents and pavilions along the way. So many ads for movies and the festival. Much of the road was blocked off to cars so we got out of the van and walked part of the way. Back in the day, it was easy to spot A-listers and movie stars according to our tour guide, Yann, but lately with the influx of social media, there is a lot less access. The cruise port in Cannes is actually walking down the road from the Cannes Film Festival, so after our tour guide from Liven Up Tours dropped us off. We actually just walked back to the cruise ship. A nice taste of the Cannes Film Festival.

What a great jazz festival with a gorgeous view of the Mediterranean behind the stage. We were here…read morefor July 14th. We saw the fireworks from our seats. They had two acts that played Jazz beautifully. The first was more classic jazz. The second was jazz with Mongolian folk music, totally different but very good. Then they took a break to change the stage. This is when the fireworks started. You could see them quite well through the opening in the back of the stage. After the fireworks, Electro Luxe began. They are high energy jazz with horns and backup dancer/singers. The lead singer is an old man who was a bit over-the-top with the energy. Ok, your group is all high energy, I get it. But stop pushing the audience to participate. I'm all for a good time just don't force me to have one. My girlfriend said he seemed liked someone who had done too much coke in his life. I hate to say it but it fit. Loved the energy and the style just calm down on the forced fun.

Similar to the festival in Nice, this festival also has a parade. The unique thing about this festival is that they have an event displaying sculptures made with lemons and oranges based on the year's theme. These sculptures vary in size, but they can be a couple of stories tall. I really enjoyed the inventiveness of the sculptures, particularly how citrus fruits were utilized in the art. If you are in the French Riviera during the carnival season, I would recommend attending this event. It makes for a nice day trip to visit not only the festival but also the town of Menton, which has a beautiful waterfront.
