Just clicked the link to their website in the yelp app and filled out the reservation info. After a long day of flying, exploring Paris, and taking the high speed train, I was hungry. I was looking for a good place that I could eat by myself. This place was a short walk from the train station (I wheeled my luggage). I chose to eat outside so it wouldn't be awkward inside with my giant suitcase. Even though I made my reservation for 830pm, they seated me at 8pm when I arrived. I chose 1 of each of the categories on the menu. To my surprise the serve brought me a declious cucumber salad as an amuse bouche.

Used google translate to read reviews in French from different sites. Made reservation and we were the first customers that night. They have good selection of local wines at reasonable price. I really enjoyed their wine. Course meal is 27€ per person including appetizer, main and desert. Since I couldn't pick what I wanted, they decided to give me small potion of everything. Everything I ate was so good, no wonder why they are so popular among locals. Yes this place is located in the middle of residential area, you need to know it's here to come here. Walking distance from the Lyon train station. One lady spoke excellent English and it was so helpful and she assisted our table so well. Highly recommend for great dinner at a such a reasonable price. My love for Lyon food continues...

I went in for lunch on a weekday with the baby (and the stroller) and asked the friendly waiter if they had a vegetarian plate (because I wasn't 100% convinced.) He assured me that yes, they did, and would I like to sit at a table outside? Why yes, thank you. I sat. After almost no time at all (which was good, because the wee one was getting a bit fussy), the waiter brought me a carafe of water and the vegetarian plat du jour. I was blown away. (See the picture I posted.) Marinated cucumber and onion, fresh greens in a light dressing, roasted eggplant (cold), grated carrots, lentil salad, some sort of vegetable mini frittata, and a vegetable tart. It was all fresh and flavourful. My only complaint was the vegetable tart had a cheese on it that was a bit too stinky for my silly American taste. Not a big deal - I ate it anyway. And the whole thing only cost me 10 euros! A steal. Oh, a word of advice. If you're going to sit outside, make sure to sit under the awning because one of the upstairs neighbors got a little over-zealous while watering his/her plants and it poured down all over me, the stroller, and the baby. (Totally not the cafe's fault. Just a tip!)

It's in Guillotiere, right over the bridge, so also convenient if you've been running (or strolling, if you're me) along the Rhone beforehand and want a quick pick-me-up. They have an unassuming but decent selection of snacks and beer, as well as board games that you can play at your table. (I flattened my opponent in checkers, but wasn't so lucky with chess...) Worth a visit.

However I knew it would not be my only bouchon dinner after trying the typical dishes of eggs in red wine sauce and fish dumplings. I had never had these food before but I know how to cook so I knew something was off. The red wine sauce was thin and watery and the fish dumplings dense and pale. It was a Monday evening so perhaps the best chef had the night off. The wine was very good and the atmosphere was perfectly lyonnaise.

The execution was on point. The dumplings totally had pike/fish flavor but so light and delicate. However the star is what lies beneath it. The lobster bisque was insanely good and brought added dimension to the dumpling. It was served with scalloped potatoes. I started with the cheese and salad. I never had cottage cheese so fresh and light. No comparison to the one you get in the market. It was whipped with herbs and olive oil with a wonderful mouth feel. The dessert was a let down. A praline tart. I should have gone with the cheese plate, but I wanted to end with something different.

Eugenie Brazier was considered the best chef in Lyon and mentor of so many including Bocuse among others. She opened her restaurant at 26 years of age in 1921. We did not take the long menu as we came late but picked signature dishes from the menu including the artichoke and foie gras signature appetizer. Delicious!! The beef was so tender and perfectly cooked and the quenelle, chef signature dish was to die for. The deserts were equally superb but the stand out was the rhubarb based one. The red burgundy ( Cote de Beaune)was so well picked by the young professional sommelier: Monthelie 1 cru "Les clous" 2020. On the nose ,violets and pepper. Au palais, this dark-fruited wine showed a good balance of tannin and acidity. Juicy red cherry and plum notes linger in the finish. One of our best meals in France . We can't wait to come back !!!

J'ai beaucoup aimé l'araignée de mer en début de repas, mais je dois dire que la tartelette de champignons était également délicieuse. Sans oublier ce petit pavé soufflé façon quenelle qui était exquis. Merci pour cette expérience incroyable.

In French, bien sûr. I'm not sure what the stars and Michelin ratings are on the door of the Potager des Halles have to do with it or what the deluded positive reviews are all about....but my husband and two sons and I arrived very hungry after the Fourvière. And all I can be sure of is after waiting a while for water... they took a bunch of stuff out of the compost and put it on four plates and called it salade! Some slimy smoked salmon, dried prosciutto, some over cooked and old salmon salad with too much mayo, gray avocado, some wilty rancid greens, some watery mozzarella and some old ratatouille that was meant to be thrown to be thrown out last week...with pine nuts. All piled on a plate. Odd combination. No one inside seemed to be working at all. Except one slightly strange waitress. I am an autoimmune type one diabetic, and when I pulled my pen to give myself some insulin, which I needed to do at the table as it seemed we couldn't go inside (that part was confusing; the doors had tables in front of them and no one inside) the waitress became so fascinated she asked me several times if I was a diabetic or what was I going to give myself? I had my two young sons with me and I must admit I was baffled--did she think I was shooting heroin at lunch? Or did she hope I was shooting heroin and want me to offer her some? The rest of the lunch was misery, and she was snarky...it was un désastre!
