Wow, I am appalled by the lack of service and frankly rudeness of Aixa. We relocated and were researching salons. My kids are biracial and therefore, not everyone specializes in their hair type. It is reasonable to research places before utilizing services. I reached out to try to schedule an appt. Texted on Fri evening, no response and so I followed up the following day after almost 24 hrs. I requested Sharon for my daughter given her stellar reviews. Unfortunately she is no longer accepting clients. I don't know how I didn't find this place before but I'm so grateful I eventually did. I was trying to find a salon that specialized in textured hair. It was so easy to book my dry cut with Aixa online. I asked if I could come in earlier and she accommodated me at such late notice. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes; no waiting at all. She listened to my concerns and gave me a great cut. This was my second visit to LeShay's Salon. My first visit was okay but it was the type of hairstyle that I wasn't thrilled with. It fell nicely but I don't always articulate what I want and so I take my chances. Understandable. This second visit was with Angela. She was welcoming, knowledgeable and handled my very thick hair like a G. When I say "very thick" I mean I normally wear it naturally, like a loose curled afro. My hair holds water like a sponge so blow drying it is a chore. It also holds heat like a closed oven so she kept burning her fingers (sorry!) I had a silk press and walked out feeling "some kinda type of way" which is code for "hot mama" The salon is clean, atmosphere is friendly and I have yet to see a poor stylist. When I made the appointment at this "natural hair" salon I asked for a wash and go. When I showed up to the appointment I stated what I wanted again, a wash and go. My stylist asked if I wanted a deep condition...no thanks, just a wash and go please. Then she proceeded to ask if I wanted my hair blown out...No? I would like a wash and go? Im scared at this point because clearly my stylist has no idea what I've been asking for, and my heads already in the wash bowl. You can hear it in my voice, and see it on my face, so the owner steps in and corrects our conversation by clarifying to her employee that what I'm really asking for is a "rake and shake", at which point my stylist goes "ooooooh" (lightbulb) and only now are we all on the same page. What got me though, was that the owner turned to me and said "professionally it's called a rake and shake, our ETHNIC customers call it a wash and go, but professionally it's called a rake and shake". NO MA'AM, let me correct you. The "rake and shake" is a METHOD of achieving a STYLE. It's a technique. The rake and shake is but 1 METHOD of achieving said wash and go STYLE. There's also the shingle METHOD, the prayer hands METHOD, the finger coil METHOD, or the scrunch METHOD, but these are all means to the end wash and go STYLE. In any case, shouldn't stylists know the "street terms" their "ethnic" customers might come into their natural hair salon with?? I don't know, that whole part turned me all the way off. And to add insult to injury, my stylist is getting directions from the owner as she's in my hair "you're going to need to use a lot more product for her hair to achieve the style" "really? okay". What is this a training session?? Shouldn't she know that?! If the owner wasn't there to guide her, what would've happened to me?? Combing my hair roots to tips? No, queen, you comb natural hair ends to roots (thank goodness I was already pre-detangled). All in all I understand the inclusivity of this salon, their motto being "skill doesn't have a skin color" but how are you going to call yourself a natural hair salon and your girls don't know natural hair terms? BEWARE!!! The absolute worst experience I've ever had at a hair salon. Lynn is a terrible stylist and I wish I would've never let her do my hair. I could tell when I sat in her chair that I wouldn't have a good experience just from her lack of confidence with handling the texture of my hair. Nevertheless, I gave her the benefit of the doubt as I'm new to the city and desperately needed my hair done. First off, she didn't even know how to pluck a part on a wig and to make matters worse, she made the band around my head from the wig so tight that i almost had to go to the emergency room. She should not be styling black people's hair, or anyone's because she clearly doesn't know what she's doing. Sharon the owner defended her when I complained instead of offering to re do my hair instead. I highly advise that you look elsewhere if you're Black and need your hair done. I had emergency back surgery and was unable to do my daughters hair. I called to discuss pricing and my daughters hair, they quoted me $35-53 dollars with $15 off for new client. When my sister got there they charged her $75 no discount. They used an excessive amount of product on my daughters hair after I gave specific instruction. The stylist commented on how she had never seen hair so healthy. That's because I don't drown her curls in gel and hairspray. I specifically said I use lighter products like Paul Mitchell even offering to send her in with products. Maybe the reception just tells you whatever you want to hear and then something else completely different happens when you actually get the service. read more

I don't generally leave reviews but felt obligated to share my experience so that someone else might be able to avoid or at least make an informed decision when choosing a stylist. I have been to LeShay's multiple times and my experience thus far has been decent. I recently got a relaxer with Lynn and it was by far the worst experience I have ever had. You could tell that she had very little experience handling black hair or relaxers. She was slow at the application process and didn't smooth the relaxer appropriately so the processing time was entirely too long. The top of my hair was under processed while the back had started to burn. When I told her it was starting to burn, she massaged the area which of course made it worse. The owner tried to offer a bit of guidance but honestly if you know someone doesn't know how to do the service, why are you allowing them to put chemicals in people's hair unsupervised? When she washed my hair, she barely rubbed my scalp enough to get the relaxer out and every time she combed my hair she started at the top and forced her way down the hair shaft and I could hear my hair breaking. Black hair should always be detangled from the bottom to the root to minimize breakage :( When it was time to pay, she tried to charge me for the relaxer and a separate charge for the flat iron. I had to inform her that the relaxer included the styling and she was skeptical but went along with it. When I left the salon, my hair felt dry and pretty lifeless. Something didn't feel right and based on the way my hair felt, I suspected there might still berelaxer in my hair. So when I got home I washed my hair with color-alarm neutralizing shampoo (the one that turns the suds pink to let you know the chemical is still there) and it was pink AF. I had to wash my hair five times to get the relaxer out. On top of everything that happened during my visit, I also want to mention that it didn't feel as though the salon was taking the appropriate measures to keep customers safe from COVID-19. The owner was wear this visor on her face but her mouth was completely uncovered and two women were placed under the dryer right next to each other, even though there were two dryers that were not being used. I'm not sure if those didn't work or what, but there was not attempt to maintain 6 feet distance between customers. I'm so bummed about the entire experience. I hope this helps someone not make the same mistake I did. Update: The response I received was shameful. To suggest my honest feedback of the stylist's inexperience with the service (which was validated by your attempts to provide guidance during the service and the relaxer that was left in my hair after the service) was rooted in prejudice is not only uncalled for but absolutely ridiculous. My feedback had nothing to do with the ethnicity of anyone in your establishment. I apologize for my misconception regarding the customer dryer seating. This, coupled with the face shield that left your mouth uncovered, led me to believe the establishment was not taking customer safety seriously. The CDC does not recommend a face shield as a replacement for a face covering: "A face shield is primarily used for eye protection for the person wearing it. At this time, it is not known what level of protection a face shield provides to people nearby from the spray of respiratory droplets from the wearer. There is currently not enough evidence to support the effectiveness of face shields for source control. Therefore, CDC does not currently recommend use of face shields as a substitute for masks." (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover-guidance.html) Please do your research before putting your customers at risk. Though I had been a return customer for some time, I felt obligated to provide the feedback so that the establishment could do better and people who are looking for a relaxer service could make an informed decision. After growing my hair out for two years, I was in need of a haircut! I brought her a picture of Heidi Klum's shoulder length bob and she did a great job recreating the look for my face. I cannot rave any more about LeShay's than I already have since I was referred to this salon back in late August! I had abruptly been invited to a last minute high-profile event in LA and my hair was an absolute mess! I'd voiced my sadness to my co-worker because I didn't think I would be able to go because my hair (in a weave for 6 MONTHS people) was so unruly. She recommended LeShay's and offered to call for me. Sure enough, my co-worker was able to contact someone at 9am, by noon I was in for a consultation and by 4:30pm I was getting my hair laid by Sharon!! I COULD NOT believe that they were so empathetic with my story to let me come in frantically at the last minute. Sharon even stayed past closing to make sure that my hair was ready to go for the party later that night! Coming out of a 6 month weave (I had just relocated into CA and had no resources to have my hair taken down) and NATURAL HAIR you can only imagine the STRUGGLE that my hair had gone through. It was a hot mess, matted and crazy!!! I was SO ashamed and kept apologizing about my hair but Sharon is a PRO, she effortlessly took down my hair and pressed it out so well! I was AMAZED how healthy and LONG my hair was and how quickly she was able to literally work a miracle on my natural and matted tresses!! I've been coming back every two weeks and will remain a loyal client to Sharon and her team! Everyone is so personable, I feel very comfortable coming in and catching up with everyone while receiving amazing service! AND my hair has grown since I've been going to LeShay's! I would murder my hair with heat and didn't know the proper regimen to keep my hair healthy even in protective styles. Sharon and her team have provided me with the knowledge that I needed to take care of my hair, and I have not had a need to use a heating product on my hair now for about 2 months!! The atmosphere is so beautiful and the stylists all have beautiful personalities! AND most of all they will hook up your hair, even the horror stories like myself have been transformed into a fairy tale!!
