I had Home Depot deliver these machines for me and found that one of the valves were broken. The hot water valve did not shut off and so they left the machines here. So, Jim did not fix it. I had 2 small fixes in my adu - re-install a towel rack that fell off, and fix a light that stopped working in my fan. He patched and repaired the towel rack great, but the fan was another issue. I purchased a new light assuming the light just went out and gave it to him when he started the job, along with his payment up front. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be home for the repair and trusted the light would work when I got home. He called me after he left and told me that he was able to diagnose the problem (broken controller unit inside the fan) and replace the light. Great! One problem: the light still doesn't work. Instead of communicating with me before he left the site, he assumed I just wanted him to install a new light in a broken fan and took off with his check. I wish he had communicated with me after diagnosis so we could discuss how to accomplish the end goal: make the light work. Instead he called after he left and had his check. I asked if I could be refunded the cost of installing the light in the broken fan, and he said "absolutely not. I replaced your light and diagnosed the problem." Shame because I had been looking for a reliable handyman and would have hired him again because he was very responsive, on time, and professional (until the job was completed). I expressed my concert, & eventually just said no problem, keep the full check since I didn't want to chase him for the difference. Anyways, looking for a new handyman. Jim, Carlos, Rudi, and Manuel were great! What first caught my eye was Jim's logo because, for some reason, it made me think of Fix It Felix from Wreck It Ralph. Rudi and Manuel were the two who mainly worked on my condo. They painted my kitchen ceiling and walls and my dining room, replaced the area under the bathroom sink where there was water damage, replaced my hallway light that wouldn't fit where it originally was anymore after I got my AC unit replaced, and many more little things I let accumulate. I felt comfortable leaving them alone to do their work while I went to work. They spent two full days at my place. They were punctual and considerate, arriving right on time both mornings (the first time I met with Jim, he was like 3 minutes late and apologized for it lol) -- I appreciate punctuality! After the first day, the stuff they needed to move was neatly set aside. The paint and equipment was also neatly on top of towels/ragged that they provided. Jim also reached out to me after the first day with a progress report. I had to swing by home during the second day because I forgot something at home and I saw that they laid out coverings for the floor and all my furniture while they were painting. When they were done, they put everything back, cleaned up after themselves, and I'm pretty sure they scrubbed my toilet. I guess I can understand why they cleaned it because I've heard horror stories from friends who come home to not the best toilet situations, but I honestly wasn't expecting them to do that! I have this little wooden stick that I use for the kitchen window out of paranoia if someone were to pick the window unlock, they can't slide the window open. It was a little too long so it was an eyesore as it sat diagonally across the window (sorry front door neighbors!). I was meaning to ask Rudi if he could cut that when he had a chance, but totally forgot to ask. When I came home after they were finished with the work, I noticed that it was cut so they read my mind! Would I use them again? He stayed to enlarge the opening of a cabinet frame to fit our new microwave oven and got an electrical outlet working before heading back to an existing client with work in progress. Work to begin, first available, after shutters, that we will be ordering, arrives. We contacted Jim that the shutters arrived and asked when can he come. He politely responded informing me that he has increased his pricings (see emails below leading up to the price increases, starting at very the bottom). Because I still like Jim's work, I tried negotiating for 50% increase. Jim ghosted me. I found another handyman, Built It Bui Handyman. Bui's pricing came close to Jim's original price quotes. I had some rain get through the roof around our A/C unit and it did some damage to the ceiling and wall beneath including some light fixtures. Jim's crew took out the water damaged pieces of the wall & ceiling as well as the moisture collected in the area. He replaced the drywall, ceiling fixtures and the holes in the roof. I had gotten another estimate that came in higher and didn't include the roof repair and new ceiling lights. I wish I could give this company 5 stars, but I can't. A few years ago I had work done on my roof which led to a whole host of other projects. His business partner did the job, and did it well. I ended up spending mid 5 figures for several projects over the course of a few years, but all of a sudden, the business partner who was doing the work stopped contacting me. I actually thought he was ill and perhaps passed away for reasons I won't go into. It turns out that he decided to ghost me after the last job. For unknown reasons, he stopped responding to my text messages or voicemails. Nothing. Besides it being business-unprofessional (I had materials ready to go for our next project), it's also just plain mean. Even after asking Jim what happened, and what I may have done(?), I was denied reason. There is something quite personal about someone being inside and outside your home for years. You get to know the team. You start to know what they're capable of and how to work with them. They get to know your family, and you rely on them to help you build your dream home. Jim sent Carlos and Manuel to work on a lot of small stuff that I had let accumulate. There were also projects that a previous handy man worked on and tried to fix that just broke quickly or weren't fixed properly to begin with. They gave me a quote that seemed reasonable to me and they fixed everything on the list and then some. They swapped out some of the screws on my door because the installer used short screws. After Carlos installed a few longer screws it worked fine. But as a preventative measure, even after the door worked as it should, he swapped out several more screws. He wasn't being paid hourly so he had no incentive other than to make sure he did it right and I wouldn't have any more issues. I installed a brand new bathroom fan with another handyman. It still made a grinding noise. Carlos and Manuel fixed the fan. I wish I had asked them to do it first. Maybe they would have saved me the cost of a brand new bathroom fan. Manuel was finishing up caulking the bathtub and while Carlos was waiting he fixed a door he noticed wouldn't close properly and did not ask for extra money or expect it. That was the theme throughout the whole time they were here. They were great. read more

We live in an older home with its original windows. The bottom sash of our double hung windows would not close because the wire pulley system was broken. Because this was a neighbors house, I felt like I had to babysit the guys as they were strangers to me and I was worried about anything going missing. I can tell you after spending several hours with Jim and Rudy, my intuition is that babysitting wasn't necessary. We hired Jim to create a kitchen venting system to the outside for our new over-the-range microwave (instead of just recirculating the air back indoors). From the get-go he responded promptly, got us an estimate right away without me having to follow up multiple times, and scheduled the work to be done the next day (all of which blew my mind since my previous experiences with contractors have been akin to herding very forgetful cats). I thought it'd be a relatively easy project since the microwave is mounted on an exterior wall so would just require cutting a hole through the drywall and stucco, but of course a lot of little things added up to make it much more challenging - a stud in the way, an uneven exterior wall requiring additional framing and stucco work, a too-small cabinet above the microwave that was nearly impossible to fit the necessary ductwork into, etc. But Jim and his partner Carlos were fantastic problem solvers and really went above and beyond to make sure the job was done right. Their team got the job done in a day (including painting where they had to add new stucco!), cleaned up after themselves (which was easy since they were considerate enough to tape plastic sheeting on everything in the kitchen), and Carlos even stopped by after to make sure everything was good. tl;dr We can't recommend Jim and his team enough and will definitely be hiring them in the future when we need work done. read more
