There is a beautiful wall mural geographic locations of all Lavain Bakery locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens with NYC landmark renown buildings or icons specific to NYC as yellow taxi and Gracie Mansion. The art in this wall mural is excellent and on point. I truly believe a local artist should commission to create work that is local to the area. Postcards of this mural is available for grabs which I did take two. My shoebox collection of restaurants, cafes and businesses' business cards, takeout menus and post cards has nearly busted. Customer service is also attentive, respectful with relatable personal understanding and very welcoming. My male associate/ server Ishmael C. was not curt and I was not rushed. I was acknowledged. I hit up Levain each time I visit the city. I can buy them frozen at Whole Foods and bake them myself but there's nothing like a warm, freshly baked cookie from a specialty shop. I'm not a cookie person, so this review is largely courtesy of my better half. Firstly, you know how even if everything else is perfect, you tend to remember the one thing that didn't go as well? The person who helped us forgot the lemon cake. Luckily I checked the bag but only after we walked all the way back to the car but before getting on the road. I went back to claim the lemon cake I'd already paid for. The person recognised and apologised and I got my lemon cake. Now the cookies. They're sweet. Very sweet. We went to the original location of this famous NYC bakery. I could not wait to try their signature chocolate chip and walnut cookie. I found the small descended entrance way to be very inviting and so NYC ! The service was great both times that we visited, even the day we visited just before they closed. They still had fresh delicious selections in their case, and we were able to get exactly what we wanted. The second time we visited, we tried a couple of new things (I will list them below) and we were also given a great recommendation for a coffee shop since their espresso machine was down (see my review of Frame). So the second time we visited, the place was definitely a bit more crowded as it was not just before closing. But the service was still NYC fast, friendly, and, we appreciated their offerings on that day as well. Especially the baguette with butter and jam, raspberry jam ! It was so unsuspectingly good. Anyway, as I try and make myself stop drooling at the memory of that baguette, I'll close with urging you to please check out this bakery when you're in NYC. It's a must! After figuring out these cookies were made in Manhattan, I made sure to visit the bakery every time I went to Manhattan. Lines are usually out the door at the bakery but the lines go very quickly. Cookies are warm when they hand it to you. The cookies freeze very well. You just need to pop it in an air fryer for five minutes and it'll taste like a freshly baked cookie. I ordered a couple cookies in each flavor. The seasonal flavor coffee toffee was delicious, and the warm two chip chocolate chip was so yummy. All of their cookie flavors are good, except their vegan gluten free chocolate chip cookie was weird. I ordered two of those for my GF colleagues and they looked more like scones than cookies.
