Looking out over the ocean while having lunch or dinner makes for a really enjoyable experience, and the atmosphere is calm and beautiful. The food was good and nicely presented, but it didn't leave a lasting impression. Everything tasted fine, and I enjoyed my meal, but I expected a little more considering the restaurant's reputation. We had a reservation at 11am and it was pretty quiet which was a nice way to start our day as we rolled in to San Diego. Try and sit outside if you can. We sat right up against the glass and the views were spectacular. We immediately heard the seals barking down below and you could clearly see them and the water views are so worth the visit. Service was great. Loved our waiter. The iced tea is delish - don't need the lemon it comes with. I ordered the blackened Mahi sandwich. Sooooo good. The side salad it comes with had the yummiest dressing on it. My husband ordered fish tacos and said the spicy seasoning ruined it and wasn't necessary. Daughter had the citrus salad - she was running late, we may have stolen a candied cashew off of it and they were sooo good. I recently brought my family to George's at the Cove to celebrate both of my nephews, and overall we had a pleasant experience. The scenery is beautiful, the atmosphere is lovely, and the menu offered many appealing options. Most of our party thoroughly enjoyed their meals, and the standout dish for us was the beef tartare, which was excellent. The views alone make it a memorable place to dine, and I would happily bring my family back. There were a few aspects of the experience that could have been better. Our waiter was kind and attentive; however, after a neighboring table voiced complaints about their food, he repeatedly made sarcastic comments to our table such as, "Clearly the food is terrible?" Even after that couple had left, similar remarks continued throughout our meal. I'm not sure if the comments were intended as humor or directed toward the other guests, but they felt awkward and took away from the experience. I had also noted in my reservation, and again when confirming by phone, that we were celebrating two special occasions. Our server came to wish his congratulations but no other attempt was made to celebrate my nephews, I reminded our server of this and he explained that desserts could be ordered for the celebration, but it felt like I had to initiate the recognition myself. Perhaps I expected something similar to the complimentary celebratory touches offered at other restaurants. The only issue with the food itself was that my salmon contained a hair, which was disappointing. We had our rehearsal dinner at George's in June of last year and it was the most perfect place to celebrate! The entire process leading up to the event as far as coordination goes, was very seamless when working with Jessae, we can't thank them enough! All of our guests loved the food and drinks. We had about 50 people and it was the perfect space. I wish I had more pictures of the food because it was delicious. Everything was very fresh and our guests were extremely satisfied with the options and quality. If you're considering using them for any event I highly recommend. The views were unbeatable. We attended a private wedding rehearsal dinner cocktail hour this weekend at George's at the Cove and had such a nice experience overall. The setting alone is hard to beat -- the sunset view was absolutely beautiful and made the evening feel really special. I even got a great selfie with the bride with the ocean in the background! The event itself was very entertaining, the food was good, and the drinks were also good. There were a couple little hiccups with the drinks during the evening, but honestly nothing major enough to take away from the experience. My only real criticism was with the hors d'oeuvres service. They kept bringing the appetizers to the same table instead of circulating to the different spots where our group was seated, which created a bit of a bottleneck at times. I think it would have flowed much more smoothly if the servers had distributed the food more evenly around each corner of the event space. Since my daughter started school in San Diego, I've been coming down here more often to find places to eat and hang out. After reading a few reviews on Yelp, I decided to check out this spot. I ordered the mussels, steak sandwich, lobster roll, and fish tacos just wanted to try a bit of everything. Overall... the flavors felt a little flat to me. Nothing was bad, just kind of underwhelming, especially for the price. Portions were on the smaller side too. The lobster roll stood out, but not in the best way. It was around $45, and honestly the portion felt pretty small for that price, so it was hard to justify. One thing that really confused me was the 5% surcharge. I already tipped, so I asked what it was for... and surprisingly, even the server couldn't really give me a clear answer. That part didn't sit right with me. Service was professional and polite, no complaints there. And being right by the ocean, the view is definitely a big plus. Just a heads up , parking can be a little tricky around here. Overall, it feels more like a spot for the view and vibe than the food, at least from my experience. I would give them 6 stars if I could! Came here for our wedding anniversary dinner and they definitely made it very special. They knew it was our anniversary so they upgraded us to the terrace seating and even brought champagne on the house. Servers were quite nice and prompt to check on us, asking if we needed anything and if the food was good. General manager also came and stopped by our table twice and was quite a gem to talk to. Portobello Mushroom - just wow! I was not expecting to have loved this so much! Mushroom cap was perfect and went so well together with that Thai sauce and those shishito peppers! And oh gosh, even those cashews on the side had some flavor of their own. What a lovely combination here! Salad - could be better. Really love the concept of the pair and the blue cheese and the hazelnut, but that cabbage was actually quite a lot in volume and a bit too wrong and crunchy and some pieces were also fairly bitter. I think if the base was mostly mixed greens with a little bit of cabbage, this with salad would have been next level! Chicken - 10/10 What an absolutely beautiful dish! That chicken was cooked so so so perfectly soft and there was that avocado salsa on the side and that creamed corn and the squash. And oh my goodness me! Have everything together and one bite and it's a burst of flavor and texture in your mouth and it was just so so good! Only downside is that the piece of chicken was quite small like I think it was a quarter chicken instead of a half chicken like we were expecting. Side of Grilled Chicken Order this because there was two little chicken in the entree. Chicken was quite generally cooked and quite a large piece of chicken breast which actually also came on some pasta so they don't serve it plain. Very nice gesture. The pasta itself was extremely oily though, so we didn't really have any of it. Banana Sticky Toffee dessert - speechless! Everything was just beautiful on this plate. Really really soft sticky toffee pudding and then the bananas on top had that caramelized crispness on top like you get on a creme brulee. That ice cream had a lovely flavor of its own and then there was the sesame crisp thing and the little crunch on the side.. just wow! Definitely recommend this place for a good date night! read more

Ordered hamachi crudo at the recommendation of waitress but that one dish made our experience not so good. It was half size sushi fish, only 5 pieces for $25?!?!? We wanted smoked salmon Rilette dish that we were told sold out. And our waitress recommended the hamachi. It was such small portion and not the best tasting. She should've forewarned us it's not a big dish!! Yes it was fresh but basically dipped in soy sauce. Also their local rock fish tacos used to have 3 tacos but now only 2 ($21) but charge $8 more for additional. San Diego Restaurant Week (SDRW) provided the perfect opportunity to have lunch at Georges. It's been over 30 years since we last ate here. We had a reservation for a table on the roof, but there were none available when we arrived that were not totally in the sun. After some back-and-forth with the hostess, we were ready to just leave when another hostess told us she'd ready a table in the bar area on the 2nd floor overlooking the water. Georges offered a two-course SDRW lunch for $30. The First Course was a choice of appetizer, salad or entree from the regular Lunch Menu, with a few exceptions. My wife had the Seared Rare Albacore (4/5), which was served over soba noodles with carrots, radish, purple cabbage, cucumber, ginger-sesame dressing. The seared tuna was done perfectly. I enjoyed a very nice Reuben Sandwich (4/5) that came with a side salad. The Second Course consisted of a dessert (roasted plum and vanilla layered cake) or a beverage. We went for the beverages. I had the Karl Strauss "Red Trolley" Ale (5/5), which is one of my favorites, and my wife had a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon (3/5), which was drinkable but nothing special. Our server was very good. The view was great from our water-side table, albeit looking out over rooftops below. Note: George's tacks on a 5% surcharge to each bill "to help cover increasing operations and labor costs." If you want to enjoy a delicious meal overlooking an absolutely stunning ocean view then make a reservation at George's at the Cove We were lucky to snag a table just at the edge of the upstairs balcony, but to be honest, when you're up there, there really isn't a bad seat. Even aside from the incredible views, the rooftop restaurant offered a solid ambiance/vibe. The decor, fixtures, bar, etc were all trendy and clean The staff were great. We didn't have to wait long to be seated, we ordered almost immediately, and our food came out in a timely manner. We also sat and enjoyed the views and conversation a bit after we finished eating, and our server came by to check on us but we never felt pressured to leave The menu offers something for everything. We shared the rock fish tacos and their burger. Both were hearty and very flavorful. I would also recommend the chips and guacamole/salsa. I didn't love the salsa flavor, but the guacamole was solid. While the menu is exorbitantly expensive, expect to pay slightly more than your average restaurant Some tips: Definitely consider making a reservation and ask if you can request a table that overlooks the water. To get to the rooftop there is a long and steep stair climb. I assume there cis an elevator somewhere, but I didn't see one. There is only street parking and garage parking. We circled around a few times before parking at the nearby parking garage. But be warned, it's $30 to park there. The steak tartar was fine, the chicken tartar (my entree was undercooked) was less acceptable. I tried all four of our entrees and our three appetizers and while the Brussel sprouts were good, everything else was average at best and pretty bad in general. This was basically a rooftop restaurant overlooking La Jolla Cove...and it was bustling. For appetizers, we ordered Crispy Shrimp and Confit Garlic Focaccia Bread...and for the mains, we ordered Rigatoni and Braised Short Rib. We finished with the Banana Creme Brulee. My husband loved his Short Rib...and I loved the Crispy Shrimp the most, but was a bit puzzled with the skimpy portion for the price point. We are in town for the weekend. Spotted George's and thought it looked beautiful and wanted to have a romantic dinner. I went to book a reservation and then see that they charge 60 dollars just to book a table with the best ocean view. And of course you can book a lesser prime table for cheaper. I have never seen this. I have been to many very nice places (looking at you Per Se, Atomix, etc) and have never heard of this. I am not opposed to paying for a nice meal but absolutely won't pay an additional fee to sit in a nice table spot. We won't be eating here. read more

I did hesitate on giving 5 Stars as prices were fairly high and the downstairs restaurant is not that elegant, but the food was excellent and well above average. I had theswordfish with a cream sauce that blended bits of slightly bitter fried cauliflower, but in a very complimentary way offsetting the other sweetness in ways I had not though of before. I went to George's decades ago when I used to call on SD and always remembered it as a specially excelent restaurant with exceptionally professional servers. It seems that many locations in SD are adding a 5% "surcharge" to bills to "offset" higher minimum wages. This is a cost of doing business IMHO and adding it is a sneaky way of raising prices. I long for the day when the law requires ONE price on the menu including any taxes and charges like the rest of the world. read more

This iconic La Jolla restaurant has raised its prices to a level that their food doesn't come close to being worth it. Even though the view from a small percentage of the tables is beautiful the lack luster food doesn't make up for the humdrum ambiance of the majority. The servers are very nice, efficient and are stellar with upsell techniques. The only reason to fight the lack of parking, unless you want to spend a small fortune, is if you have a special guest in town that will make the entire experience worthwhile. I recommend Mitch's Seafood on Shelter Island, Tom Ham's Lighthouse on West Harbor Island, C Level on East Harbor Island, Ironside in Little Italy or the Fishery in Pacific Beach. read more

The food was refined, balanced and so flavorsome. We opted for mussels, burrata , cauliflower. I would recommend this place for a quick happy hour, but I felt like my whole experience left a lot to be desired. Service here was SO slow/non-existent that they failed to notice that our seared rare yellowtail was completely overcooked when presented. Dressed with eggplant caviar, green beans, and olive and tomato relish I felt like all the flavors (and overcooked texture) made an odd pairing. Our crab spaghetti was good (not great) and I think the menu could have done a better job explaining that it came in a brothy soup. Garlic foccacia was not garlicky at all. Best part of our dinner was our wine ...and the kids meals which looked delicious and had generous portions.
