The Lewis Sports Centre was rebuild a few years ago and what a difference! It is located next to the council offices which can mean at certain times finding a parking space can be tricky but you shouldn't have to wait too long for a space. The sport centre has a pool, sauna, and gym all can be used at reasonable prices. They have squash courts you can pre-book, Fridays can be difficult to book but you can usually get a free court at least once or twice a week. They have a café which serves the usual snack treats and meals. Membership fees are reasonable but you don't need to be a member to use it which is a bonus! Since it was rebuilt a few years ago it is a massive improvement on the old one although it could still be improved in some areas. read more

Ionad Spors Lewis is a fairly new build though there have been lots of problems with it and though it opened in 2004 was only officially opened in January of this year. The new centre looks good, but the hall was shut for a while due to the roof leaking! Along with other problems, which isn't good for a new build. Prices are reasonable and the sports centre is open monday-saturday, which is another problem as a lot of people would like a sunday opening going on the If you can go to the pub, petrol station or fly on a Sunday, why can't we go to the gym Anyway, the staff are always friendly and helpful and the centre itself has: a swimming pool with kids area, mixed changing rooms and open showers, kids soft play area, climbing wall, games hall (which is pre-bookable and always recommended as it's busy) a fitness suite/gym, dance studio and squash courts and jacuzzi/sauna/steam room. There's also a healty eating cafe. The sports centre is always busy, and the local secondary school use the facilities during the day so it's always advisable to phone in advance.
