He frequently didn't respond to me during the process. Before our court hearing I reached out multiple times trying to make sure he was ready with the expert witness he had me hire and pay for. Our very first court appearance he had to postpone because he failed to serve my ex! Then there was another hearing that was asked for another exemption. Zero response until a week before the hearing. I get a frantic call from Matt encouraging me to settle for less than half of what I would get in court! I refused. He gave me some story as to why it was in my best interest to take the 50%. Then he came back and said my ex was refusing that amount and it would be less than 30% of what I was entitled to, however his firm would make up the difference. HUGE RED FLAG and alarm bells went off! I work for a professional services company and we do NOT pay our clients. Then the next email I get is from an associate at his firm sending me a response filing by my ex's attorney. It detailed out Matt's failure to respond to settlement negotiations, and failing to file MY witness list (so I have NO expert) in trial. The court filing was clear this guy had not done a thing to help my case and it was all detailed out for the judge. I cried! I had waited over a year with his delays and extensions he requested on my case and now I have no chance of winning and zero faith in his ability to represent me. I took his offer as long as he put in writing to pay me the money to bring me to 50%. He said he would write off the attorney costs (well I certainly expected that since he screwed up the whole thing!) and he said he cut me a check within X number of days. Well that came and went. No money. Then he sends me a release he wants me to sign that says I won't discuss his screw ups! Absolutely NOT! He cost me money and he let my ex get away with even more BS. That was an insult on top of the injury he caused me. I filed a complaint with the state bar and I hired an attorney to represent me against Matt. I didn't quite get the amount I would have from my ex, but I still get to warn other people to run. This guy misses every deadline and can't even serve notice to the opposing counsel! Do yourself a favor and don't hire Matt Blado.
