My friend and I ended our 5 day tour tasting wines throughout Okanagan Valley at Oliver/Osoyoos and Road 13 was definitely our favorite for the area. The tasting room is grand - just step beyond the massive front door into their modern, vaulted ceiling tasting room with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the vines and lake beyond! We ended up chatting with our pourer about wine (and life) for nearly 2 hours! It was a fun experience and my friend and I both ended up purchasing bottles to go. I asked if we could sit at one of the many empty tasting tables in the shade instead because I didn't want my 70 year old dad sitting in the hot Sun. She said "No." Seriously??? I said, so that section is off limits for us? She said "Yes". I saw there was seating down by the pool in the shade and asked if we could sit down there. She said it was for members only. They must not have any members because NO ONE was there. She suggested an awkward couch in the shade apart from all other areas of the winery, it was a weird place to sit but that's all she could offer us. Why? Don't waste your money here wine lovers. The overall vibe was rude, unwelcoming, snooty, VERY unprofessional with ZERO hospitality and down right strange. It was like they were trying to lose business. The wine was good but nothing is that good to come back and be treated like that. I left there with such a negative energy, I had to literally shake it off before I got back into my car. My girlfriend and I were on vacation through Okanagan wine country. Over six days, we visited…read moresixty wineries. You can follow our various locations with this disclaimer. That's sixty wineries, not an exaggeration. We ended the trip with 120 bottles acquired. Recommending a specific location for a wine trip in the Okanagan is like dialing the chevrons on the Stargate. Yeah...wow, I totally went there. I had started thinking about how you need a specific location and then a point of origin, and the connection to that old movie just dribbled to the surface. Regardless, before a suggestion, you need a point of origin. From the North, start with Kelowna. From the South, it's Osoyoos. If only rationed a few days, it comes down to those two, with Naramata the real reward for those dedicating more than a weekend to such a vacation. Thus, the BC branch of Jackson Triggs and Inniskillin (copy-pasted from here on because I know I'm going to get the spelling wrong at some point) is bizarre in that it sits away from basically everywhere. It's the only winery between Oliver and Okanagan Falls, or at least just before you reach the latter. So, unless you're on an extended trip, it's unlikely you'll take the trip. For us, it was an easy stop between larger concentrations of wineries. We left Osoyoos earlier so reached the complex just before its opening. I can see this place being busy during the afternoon, but at this morning, we had the place to ourselves. Unlike many other wineries in the region, Jackson Triggs / Inniskillin feels corporate, not unlike the Sandhill Winery near the dead center of Kelowna. As such, Jackson Triggs / Inniskillin a tad bit more sterile compared to others. With Naramata, you are most likely talking to owners or winemakers. Just around the corner sits the colossal steel drums that don't look dissimilar to the hyperboloid cooling towers of a nuclear power plant (and yes, I had to look that up). Inside, it is mostly dark wood and contrasting ceramic countertops. There is a larger tasting lounge when it gets busy, but for us, it was the standard bar. There was a good selection of wine, though this was a location for the girlfriend, not me. I don't mind the Inniskillin Icewines, but I have always personally placed the Jackson Triggs at just above mediocre. But if traveling between Okanagan Falls and Oliver, this is a great stopover between more distant locations.

But yeah, when grading against the other two, it's not the best. This assumes I am not counting the prequels. It's certainly not The Godfather, Part 3--Meyer Family Vineyard is still a great place, featuring an impressive view, and boasting a broad selection of wine served by a knowledgeable and generous host. It has a welcoming tasting lounge blessed with delicious temptations for one's next picnic. The issue once again is that Meyer Family Vineyard was neither our first winery nor our last on this day. It wasn't even the fiftieth for my girlfriend and me in total. We were up to seventy by this point in the Okanagan alone. And Meyer Family Vineyard is good, worth a visit, but if your time is paramount and limited, it would not be a priority on my list. Meyer followed Nighthawk and would be followed by Synchromesh, both superior wineries. But I won't attempt negativity as the location is still good. We just didn't buy any wine. I did buy crackers. I mean...crackers. That's something. Right? Another comparison would be someone offering me a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup after I finished sucking on a Lindor chocolate with a bowl of those still tempting me. Sure, I love Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, but when there's a bowl of Lindors... ...Unfortunately, I'm also overweight, so I'd find a way to fit in both. Hmm, that's a better comparison. If you like wine and are touring the region, fit in Meyer, and then feel guilty afterwards.
