It needed another light near that big table. We were offered tea and coffee with the afternoon tea. Then we were told that there was no other menu for the children but the manageress said she could get specific sandwiches and add chips for the children. My nephew doesn't eat cakes so afternoon tea was wasted for him. My niece is 8 years so wouldn't eat all of it herself so the alternative had to do. The chips were nice! It was quite noisy from other tables so it was nice when they started to leave. The afternoon tea wasn't as spectacular as I thought. Coombe Abby and netherstowe house as well as the Edgbaston are!! Most of us were hungry afterwards that we all said we would have to eat again when we got home!!! Ha ha

The Rotunda boasts the highest open balcony in Birmingham, so the views are really fabulous (although maybe not for the very faint of heart). The penthouse has one wall which is entirely floor to ceiling windows with a panoramic view of Birmingham and the Bullring, including St Martin's church. The apartment has two double (king) bedrooms, each with an en suite. One has a good sized bath with a rain head shower, both have hair dryers and bathrobes. The central living area, which contains a fully equipped kitchen, has a large flat screen TV with Sky TV plus an iPod dock with speakers. It's the little touches, and the service which makes this special. There is milk and oranges (for juicing) in the fridge, mueslis, ground coffee (from Urban Coffee) tea and hot chocolate. It's an eco conscious place with Ecover washing powders for the dishwasher and washing machine, and vegetarian shampoo and soaps. It is immaculately clean and the general manager Gavin is very approachable and helpful. With Twiggy-style models adorning the walls on canvas, if looks very cool too. The next day we felt totally zen. Worth coming back just for that!

It was immediately obvious which section was for drinking and which was for eating- something a lot of places often do not manage. We went to the bar and were served immediately. I asked for a G&T and was offered a suggestion of Portobello Road gin. Always nice when the staff don't just instantly give you Gordons! They had a small but good selection of spirits. Prices were what you would expect for the area and for good quality drinks- about £6.50 for a double g&t though I expect bombay sapphire would be cheaper. The food looked good but I didn't eat so couldn't comment. There's lots of outdoor seating so it would be a lovely place to go in the summer.

It's a bit of a long walk but also a nice one if the weather is good for a traveler who wants to see the town and University en route to the hostel. I attended a great meeting there in April - the internet throughout the College Court had strong signals, and the meals were quite nice. We all felt a bit spoilt having table service arranged by the organizers for lunch and dinner - it gave us that much more time to talk with each other. I would gladly come back to the College Court. The only thing to keep in mind is that it's a bit of a trek to the better food in Leicester when one wants to eat out.
