I was delighted to find a decent sized English section with classic literature kicking off at 3,60 Euro. The staff was friendly enough and able to point me in the right direction. I appreciated the cool blast of air conditioning the moment I stepped inside. The space is very crisp and modern. If you're looking for travel books and guides, they have you covered. However, mostly in Italian. I would describe this place as the Barnes & Noble of Italy. I also noticed that they have a fair number of kids books and toys available. Happy reading! (And AC;)

This tiny bookstore is chock full of books and if you're dazzled by Prada and Versace, you'd miss…read morethis place. That would be a mistake. The Bocca bookstore opened in Turin in 1775. Yes, that 1775. It is likely one of the oldest bookstores anywhere. It was originally a chain of bookstores with others in Paris and Florence and Rome and Turin, but today only the Milan location remains. And in fact is only here in the Galleria Victtorio Emmanuele II because the people petitioned the government for it to remain. Thank you, Milanese, for recognizing how important books and reading are to humanity! This is a small shop and it is quite full. Some of the custom art is very expensive (look through the glass in the floor tiles) but there are many books here that are quite normally priced. And yes, some even in English. How cool is that! American Bookstore wasn't an Amazon-styled warehouse of books. They had no catalog. You just look at the shelves and pick something out. And they have an immense selection to peruse and ponder. There were a lot of classics and plenty of new titles. They even had a large selection of rare books with a staff dedicated to restorations. It felt right out of The Nineth Gate. I spent an hour pulling volumes and pondering before I made my selection. It was one of the best hours I've spent in days but will be penultimate to when I open the book later on.

Another favorite in Milan. This is a bookstore/bar/cafe. It is a wonderful little hang out to…read moremeet friends, do some work, or read. The menu is simple, but the quality of ingredients is good. Gogol has a variety of honey, jams and wine for sale as well. They often have local art displayed and it changes regularly. I enjoy the music they play. You never know what it will be, but it is always good. Gogol offers free wi-fi and dogs are welcome. The couple that own the place are very nice too.

It was so bad, I filed a police report about that restaurant's scam. The police are investigating. Read the reviews. When I read the reviews after I ate there, I realized that I am not the first person they have scammed. But hopefully, I am one of the last after the police investigate. There is someone out front luring people in with lies. They are doing bait and switch. They have a sign advertising a cold meat platter and a Aperol Spritz for 10 euros. I asked the man that was pressuring me to come in if I could have a large beer instead of the Aperal Spritz. He said sure, so I went in. He ordered to the waiter for me in Italian, which I did not understand. A very large beer came. I was in shock, "bait in switch". I said it was too big. The waiter just walked away. Things on the meat platter that were advertised on their board never come. When I asked for them, I was told the kitchen was busy. When the bill came, it was 32 euros, not the 10 euros that was advertised on their board. I asked for the manager. I was first told the manager was busy. Then I was told, the manager was not there. I agreed to pay a fair price of 20 euros, and left it on the table. A man came after me, grabbed my arm, and stoled my phone. My arm, back, neck, and shoulder are in sever pain now. I just had to take a pain killer. At 69 years old, my body cannot take severe blows like that anymore. That place puts a bad name on Milan. I will never be back to Milan! And I will not recommend to anyone to visit Milan. The experience here was not that great. It's not because of the selection of books and other…read morereading materials available or the fact that there are lifesize displays of anime and superhero characters on the upper floor, it's because of the rude staff who, instead of letting me know in a polite way not to sit on an empty floor shelf, raised her voice and used gestures to suggest that I leave the store. I was with my family of 5 and instead of letting them shop there and give them our business, we headed for the exit and vowed not to come back. Luckily we found another Mondadori somewhere else and did not encounter any rude staff working there.

They have other two small shops nearby, one for school stuff (notebooks, etc) and another one for new books. The variety is mostly of Italian books but they have a good English section and even something in French, Spanish and German (just don't expect to see the novelties). The books are not ordered alphabetically so if you're looking for a specific book it can take ages to find (although they're more or less divided in genres), the conditions of most aren't very good and there's a funny smell inside, but for 2 euros, what can you expect?
