Prices are comparable to San Diego but unfortunately that is the case for all Mexico regarding books, not just for this bookstore.

They didn't speak English, which is fine, as it should be a fairly easy transaction with my limited Spanish. But they didn't like my credit card because the numbers were on the back and they couldn't use their ancient credit card slip system. They told me I'd need to call Ticketmaster and change credit cards, which wasn't going to happen as I don't live in Tijuana and wasn't going to negotiate that hour-long phone call. They got back on the phone with Ticketmaster after my insistence, and couldn't reach a human. They kept trying to give up and send me away, but I told them I was not leaving. Finally I told them they can use a pencil to take an imprint of the card. The second guy tried the machine and lo and behold, it took an imprint just fine. Why couldn't the girl try that 30 minutes prior rather than wasting my time? Then she wrote the details on the slip and screwed up and had to rip it up and start over. I know these guys don't actually work for Ticketmaster, but if they're going to be the agents for people who need to pick up their tickets, they need to be better trained. This was a train wreck of an experience, and after 45 minutes in the store and much frustration, I finally walked out of the store with my tickets. It could have been a 5 minute visit.

(Says another tourist.) It's a small bookstore, with mostly second hand books. They have a section of books sold by local authors, with all profits going directly to the authors - which was nice. There is also a shelf of books just for people to peruse while in the store - an attractive prospect, on their comfortable couches and with coffee available. Not a place to go if you have something very specific in mind, but perfect to browse and read and escape the noise of the city for a bit.

I love to give books or gift cards to bookstores to children. Bluestocking Books is the kind of bookstore I would specifically go out of my way to buy gifts for people, or to (gasp) buy a book for myself. There are little cozy nooks around the bookstore, as there should be in a bookstore. There's also a section for kids, with a little table and some reading material to peruse. Inexplicably, Bluestocking Books is closed on Wednesdays! What an interesting day to be closed, but I guess you have to be closed at least one day, right? Why not Wednesday? The people who work here are very friendly and helpful, and there's just a palpable welcoming vibe emanating from the store. It's a nice place to browse and find the perfect book.
