The lady came out and we told her if there's any cake left, we'll buy it! And there was this beautifully made salted caramel chocolate cake... it was to die for!!! It's got crunchy caramel bits like hokey pokey (New Zealand ice cream flavor) in between layers and it was topped with caramel sauce and chocolate bits. It's decent food, I liked the muesli cake (or whatever it was called), and you can have your sweets (like my cake) come with a side of chocolate (syrup) and whip cream to top it with. The best way to enjoy this place, especially for 1st time visitors is to also check out the museum and the chocolate shop. The museum gives an informative history of chocolate. The chocolate shop is decent like visiting any boutique chocolate shop, pretty good chocolate. What I liked best is their (recent) offering of fudge (candy, not chocolate fudge). I bought mint chocolate, some coconut flavor, and cookies & creme. They are pretty good, not too thick (unless you eat the whole bar w/o slicing it up), not overly creamy, not too sweet, and not too hard nor overly gummy like Starburst candy, just the right balance of creamy texture and sweetness. And my tour guide told me the fudge is a way for visitors who are chocolate intolerant to still be able to enjoy something there. The fudge is a must try unless you like Starburst style fudge or thick dry peanut buttery type chocolate fudge.

To be clear, I bought their Kenyan single origin beans that I've yet to try and I'm hoping for a better experience brewing the coffee myself. I went ahead and bought the bag because I saw a long line behind me and my past experience with any single origin coffee beans have been good. I was a bit disappointed not to see any "roasted on" date, which is usually an indicator by the roaster of their craftsmanship. Great roasters often add a "roasted on" date to let coffee aficionados know the freshness of the beans. Older coffee beans lose their flavors and anything older than 1-2 months are normally considered undesirable. Furthermore, I was surprised that the person who checked me out for the single origin beans had no idea what they were. I had to point out "Single Origin" on their menu for them to realize I was referring to their specialty coffee beans. They do have a cute menu and a small seating area inside. They roast their beans onsite and I watched the roaster work behind a glass window while I was there. Overall, I wasn't too impressed by their coffee, but it's possible I ordered the wrong drink.

The interior design and menu layout is clean, fresh, and modern although it took me a little while to get my head around the salads/proteins options and pricing. Once we did figure it out, I had the pleasure of having pork belly for brunch with 3 salads and my partner had an exceptional attempt at eggs benedict (the hollandaise was velvety with a touch of lemon). They use premium products and Hawkes Bay's finest local produce but the pricing isn't put at a premium. The service is OK as is the coffee; I ordered a tall macchiato which was quite burnt. They were receptive to make me another one but unfortunately it was more of the same so I have taken away one star. Can't wait to go again!
