The best way to visit here is to take a ferry from nearby cities such as Naples, Sorrento, Amalfi, etc. Otherwise you'll spend close to 1.5 hours driving through some winding and hairpin turns from the nearest airport in Naples. The beach is located about 250 ft. below the closest road that allows cars, so expect to do a lot of hiking as you navigate your way through the tiny pedestrian only streets visiting shops, restaurants, and cafes. Parking is impossible here! Most of the beach here is private, so expect to spend 25 euros to rent a tiny sunbed packed in tightly next to some stranger. The small portion of the beach that is public is filled tightly with tourists marking their spot with a beach towel. The beach itself has tiny pebbles, so be sure to wear water shoes. During the day this place is packed with day trippers visiting. HOWEVER, from the early evening till mid morning you will have the place to yourself and enjoy this natural beauty. I highly recommend renting a boat on the pier and taking it out for a few hours to enjoy the blue waters and gorgeous views. That's the best way to experience this place! Overall I was really impressed the with the beauty of Positano. Such a fun place to visit with gorgeous views, great weather and beautiful crystal clear blue waters. Expect to pay high prices for restaurants and hotels here and dealing with crowds during the day. I definitely can see why the Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful places to visit on the planet!

A mix of young people (in the right area of the beach) and families (on the left, the water is perfect for kids) . This Beach Club (not as others...) is never overcrowded as Antonella knows how important is to leave "space" to who comes to relax in the sun. The restaurant offers a quality light lunch menu. At sunset young people starts to gather for great music and drinks ....and in special days (ask when) in few hours the place becomes the "best party" in town! It took me years to find for me the right Beach Club there in Acciaroli, hopefully this is going to help ... the Yelp! (mostly unknown site by Italians) users!

It was a decent walk down a path to get to the inlet and you have to walk down a pretty steep set of stairs to get down to the water but boy is it worth it! I'd recommend water shoes as the rocks are slick. You can swim around or lounge on rocks. There were probably about a dozen people while we were there in April. There's lots of nearby walking paths full of wildflowers and some ruins. I could have packed a lunch and spent all day here and in the surrounding hiking spots. GORGEOUS & BEAUTIFUL - Totally worth the short hike to the bay…read more We stayed in Praiano so we took a bus to Sorrento and then another bus to Nerano. Was prob. about a two hour trip each way. Once you get off the bus stop in Nerano (stop should be in front of Olga's Residence), look for the signs that point to Baia di Ieranto. Its a slight uphill hike of about 45 minutes or so. There's a sign about mid way through your hike that says for the bay turn right..for something else (sorry i forget), turn left. Turn left. This will take you to the bay and it is less steep. We went in October 2016 and apparently there was a fire which closed the route there. When we asked around locals didn't seem to think it was a big deal. There was some fire damage but if you're careful, the hike is very do-able. It was a bit raining when we went so the bay was basically empty. Loved it!!!!!

We walked across the sandy part, which was mostly really fine sand, that retained heat very well. I had to put my sandals back on at one point because it was so hot. Then there's a little area of all stones, which amazed me that people set up their towels on. I would hate to lay on that and it was hard to walk on it without shoes. As you approach the water, it slopes down a lot and turns into a slightly coarser sand than the previous sand. Super interesting and something I haven't really seen before. The free area is much larger than I thought it would be and is surrounded by beach clubs with plentiful chairs. The water was so nice and gentle. I can see why it was full, even though it was fairly cold. There are showers and stuff but they are in the middle of the sand, which I thought was weird. You'd think they'd be closer to the sidewalk. Didn't really matter though. The texture of this sand was easy to remove from your skin, even wet.

Who doesn't like a beach?…read moreThe sand here isn't really sand, it's more like small pebbles, but that doesn't stop avid beach goers from enjoying a picnic, tan, or jog along this short stretch of the azure waterfront in Positano. Frankly all the beaches on the Amalfi coast are limited in size, this being one of the larger swaths where access is free. Beach goers should plan to arrive early to snag a spot in the warm summer months. Other local destinations include grottos or man-made piers, the former which are more secluded and require dedicated transport, though popular enough to get crowded due to their smaller sizes; the latter are often private and reserved for guests of hotel properties, though a handful are public too. On an afternoon in April, around 70s F outside, I'd consider the beach to be moderately busy, not crowded, especially since rain was in the afternoon forecast, and not really warm enough for many swimmers. There's a large section where lounger chairs with sun umbrellas are laid out, which is managed by a private beach club, and chairs need to be rented, which you can do so in advance online. Prices look to be €30-50 per person per day depending on the club. Not cheap! I was content to take a few steps across the edge of the beach since water-related activities weren't in my itinerary for the day. The picturesque, dramatic views of the water and impending storm clouds were enjoyable! That is ...until I got caught in the downpour of that oncoming rain cloud...no fun to be soaking wet, though at least it wasn't hot! PSA: Recommended to bring some type of water shoes or sturdier footwear since the gravelly beaches aren't ones on which to go barefoot.
