Carson Medical Group Lab Draw - Check-in / Front desk

On Friday, February 8, 2019 I visited this blood lab…read more First things first: in order to use this lab, you must be a patient of Carson Medical Group. If you are from another doctor's office, you cannot use it, even with a LabCorp order. They do use LabCorp as their service provider, but they are not listed on the LabCorp website. Their official name is Carson Medical Group Lab Draw, and they are in the same building as Carson Medical Group Family Medicine (Building B). You proceed into the parking lot and then make a left. Their building is on the left. Remember, they are closed for the noon hour between 12 and 1 Monday through Friday. Anyway, as I was not a patient there, I can only say the front desk person was polite and professional. She explained to me how it worked and answered all my questions. She was the front desk person next to the Lab Draw desk. The two lab employees, as there were no lab patients, were out for a few minutes bringing bloodwork or lab trash to wherever they put it. They also have a large, comfortable waiting room. The parking lot was a little crowded, but there was sufficient space. It was well plowed.

Our elderly do not need to be treated in such a rude fashion. Instead they need healthcare workers to speak slowly and somewhat louder so they can hear and understand what was being said.

On Friday, February 8, 2019, I went to this blood lab. They had just opened a year or so earlier,…read moreand I was surprised they had no Yelp page yet. I didn't have bloodwork to do, and when I do, I usually use LabCorp. But I did want to stop in to see what they were about. The door sign says "3641 Gs Richard", but the actual name of the street is "GS Richards". I am not sure why they use a lower-case "s". The spelling also caused google Maps GPS to mispronounce it as [jeez] instead of [jee-es]. Anyway, they are on the first floor, right to the left-front as you enter the lobby. The elevator had an out-of-service sign, and the stairs were roped off for some reason. Their were men's and women's restrooms on each side of the lobby. I talked to the two workers at the front desk immediately closest to me as I entered. They said they would take a lab order on any lab form, whether it be a LabCorp, Quest Diagnostics, or their own form. They also accept self pay for those patients who do not have insurance. They self -pay prices are quite reasonable they said. There also was a decent size waiting room in front, which I did not get to use. In the end, I thanked them and walked out. There was sufficient space in both parking lots (one in front and to the left of the doors, and the other on the left side of the building. They were not connected. They also had one of the handicapped parking signs missing.

I have been using this lab multiple times per year since 2015 and don't have any complaints. They…read moreare a professional, friendly office and do their job well. Pros: 1. Parking is easy and plentiful. 2. The waiting room is large (there are actually two of them) and clean with comfortable chairs. 3. The techs there, who change quite often, have always been professional, helpful, and friendly to me. They even let me go in back to get water when I was dehydrated. They get the job done in a professional manner. 4. As with most LabCorps, they usually have two techs working at once, with an optional third one at the front desk. 5. It is an an old house in a basically residential area, so it has a nice, quaint feel, as opposed to the standard lab in a commercial building. 6. If you need a note excusing you from work or proof of your appointment there, that is easy to get. Cons: 1. The driveway in and out out the parking lot is a little narrow, due to cars being parallel parked next to the building. 2. Visibility pulling out into the street is not good, due to all the residential cars parked on the street. I've had a few close calls. 3. They have been experimenting with electronic check-in at their machines the past few years. This has been hit and miss, with the machines sometimes being down and different amounts of information required at varying times. The machines may require ID if you don't have an appointment email with your QR-code. There used to be three machines; now there are either one or two. 4. People don't close the door sometimes since it is not self closing, so you have to get up yourself to close it. Full disclosure: I have almost always gone there with an appointment, and usually in the late afternoons when it is less crowded. I do not know how it is in the mornings or without an appointment. Usually, from what I have seen, those without appointments are processed fairly quickly. Tips: Make an appointment so there is almost no waiting. Go in the afternoons if you can, which are quieter. Bring your appointment email (printed or on the phone) with the QR-code so you can scan it at check-in.
