I'm a size 8-10 and I always walk out with something I'm really excited about! They have two racks you have to check out - the "everything $2" wrack (which has some cool stuff and some of your laughable awfuls) and my personal favourite - the" fill a bag got $5!) it's always full and always has some cool stuff! I got a super cute cue skirt in there once! They are great for books too, there is a wall bookshelf that has got good quality books on it, some even brand new, and cheap as chips, only a few dollars a book for a new perfect new condition one. shoes and jewellery too, their stock is always rotating so even if you are a regular like I am there is something new for you. Not too good for furniture because of its size but there is a superstore just a few minutes drive away if you are looking for that. (lifeline superstore on sandgate Rd, also yelpable) Five stars for this little northside gem!

On the lawn outside of the store, there was a $89 mint condition black leather wheelchair as well as a whole range of bikes, some for little ones, and some for adults. The rooms are decked out like small themed rooms, in a similar fashion to how some antique stores set out their goods for sale. The only difference is that you'll pay less than half the price you'd pay at an antique store. They've got a violin for sale there for $50, imitation Chasseur slow cookers for $59 (which is cheap, let me tell you), old school pentax and polaroid land cameras (enquire about prices) and vintage coffee percolators for $20. They've got loads of your standard op shop finds: a killer book and record collection, toys galore, and troves of crockery and cutlery. It's not a bad place to come looking for some new furniture either. They've got a lot of stuff that looks like it was taken from your grandma's house, but in saying that, there are some great retro finds in there. It's not great for clothes- it's more of a odds and ends, nic nacs kind of place. While you're upstairs take a look at the original, aged and worn wooden trusses that hold up the curved corrugated iron roof. I can assure you, if you dare go in here, you will walk out with something great and unexpected.

I always find some great clothes at Hey Hey It's Yesterday's Thrift Shop. Everything they sell is always in top-notch condition and at excellent prices. Hey Hey's is situated just a quick walk away from Rosalie village. It is fitted inside an old house which works perfectly in categorising the store. The store uses different "room" for separate things; there is an entire room devoted to men's wear a room devoted to children's wear toys and homewares and a room for ladies' wear. The staff seem to be pretty friendly to others but for some reason, I often get ignored when I enter the store, usually it is because they are busy serving other people so I don't mind that much.

It's a little shop in Nash Street that sells every type of second-hand thing you could ever imagine. They have clothes, shoes, jewellery, handbags, and even sports equipment like bowling balls and hockey sticks, bless them. But the profits from these items don't even benefit the shop owners, they all go to benefit brain-injured children. You can't get more selfless than that. This shop is really a testament to the good people that run it, and they don't even charge much for their items. Books and videos are only $2, DVDs only $3. Everything is cheap as chips but goes to such a great cause. If you've ever visited Cold Rock or Grill'd at Rosalie, all you need to do is drive up a little bit more and you'll run into Hey Hey It's Yesterday's Thrift Shop. It's in an absolutely beautiful old burgundy-sort-of-coloured house. If you like vintage and feel like making a difference during the course of your day, amble on down and have a chat to the lovely ladies there. I can't really give a thrift store less than a 3 star rating, because morally it would just be…read moreplain wrong! But please bear in mind the rating is based on the items found inside the store not the charities they support. That said if you need clothes, come to the YWCA thrift store. Because there are SO MANY CLOTHES in such a small space. The clothes are nothing special, very casual stuff (including swim wear....no comment), no bedding or electrical items, a fair amount of worn books, some toys and games, and a very limited amount of home wares. But the clothes, oh goodness the sheer amount of clothes! More often than not I have walked out of this store empty handed. But every now and them I find a dress or top that is great and practically begging me to buy it, and these are real thrift store prices: $5-$15 an item, and the $15 price tag is pushing on expensive. The YWCA thrift store does have an interesting collection of retro sunglasses and pins near the front counter which I love looking through. And on occasion you can also find some pretty interesting jewellery on display as well, but again this is a 'sometimes' event. If you need some casual clothing for super cheap, this is the place to go. For everything else.....well, you may get lucky.

Tucked away in a little arcade in Toowong, the YMCA Thrift Store is just this. It has no pretences of being something classier or appealing to a certain market--it is simply a shop full of old clothing, old home ware, old shoes, old books, old everything. I found a few decent puzzles there, but am yet to find a real gem. Unfortunately, in Brisbane, there are probably people from the aforementioned "retro" stores who scour all the old op shops for things of value and appeal to stock their stores, leaving no bargains for the rest of us. But, alas, one can hope.

This St Vinnies is housed in the historical Foresters…read moreHall (set up in the 1800s as a place for workers to gather in "union" style meetings) and as soon as you walk in across the squeaky floorboards, you can almost smell the history. Well, it's probably just old wood, but still. If you avoid charity shops because you come out feeling soiled and mentally anguished by the "jumble sale" interior, then fear not. This is laid out beautifully, everything is easy to navigate and well signposted - for example, if you want fancy dress or evening wear, then head upstairs. On a raised platform at the back of the shop are records and retro gear (they had an extensive range of seriously bogan 80s leather jackets in case that's your thang) and the main part of the shop is well-organised "normal" clothes. While I was there a woman was trying to offload some of her old shoes in the store, but the staffer wasn't having any of it as the soles were too worn, and in her opinion would be dangerous for anyone to buy and wear. The Paddington St Vinnies is one of the best Vinnies I know, but you have to know when to go there…read morebefore all the good stuff is gone and like all thrift stores, you won't always find something you like. One thing I love about this Vinnies is how it is placed inside a large hall. This allows easy navigation, unlike some op shops where everything is just thrown in a room. There is also a "after six" section of the store situated up a set of stairs in a small room. I have found some great pieces in this room including a vintage gold dress which for only $12. I can imagine a garment like this would be far more expensive at a vintage store. There is also a $1 sale rack at the front which is mainly filled with junk but with a few treasures hiding on it. I once got a polka dotted shirt from that sale rack and get compliments every time I wear it. You will not always find something you like here though, I find that if you come earlier in the week, you will more likely find something you like, that is because all the hip kids get to the good stuff first, it is Paddington after all. If you are a fan of Thrift stores, there is not reason why you would not want to check this place out. It is spacious and filled with treasures as long as you don't mind hunting for them.

Salvos is the biggest thrift store in the complex of shops at Geebung and sells a large range of…read morefurniture as well as clothing, shoes, books, and crockery and kitchen appliances. They often have great pieces of furniture for sale, including beds and couches, dressers and cupboards. There is a huge range of womens clothing, mens clothing, kids and babies, and there is a rack of evening dresses and even wedding dresses. They previously had a rack dedicated to vintage and retro clothes, however this doesn't seem to be a focus anymore. However, there are still some great vintage items to be found. Salvos is open til 5pm all week and Saturday, however is closed on Sunday. The other thrift stores close just after lunch on Saturdays, but Salvos stays open until late.
