I'm a nature girl. this is my sanctuary-- this is okay for me if my guy decides to propose to me here. In the wild! In the middle of the tall trees, and green grass!! Aside from me NOT enjoying the hunting, I think this place is marvelous and a place where cellphone signal does not matter. because you'll pass the sunset and sunrise, being on a phone all day. There is sooo many trails, so many bunk houses, you know-- to camp. I don't normally call anything a hidden gem, because it's highly overused term on here, but Hesperus' "Like to Hunt," is a hidden gem. It's peaceful, marvelous and very far and definitely a journey to get to. Even if I reside in the same state of Colorado. I will say that without the hunting, I am so down to shoot a gun/rifle and not be afraid by the loud sound of a gun shot. Otherwise I definitely do hope everyone else can enjoy my trip here as I did. read more

History
Established in 1917.
Great-Grandpa Abel had His Team of mules, Pete and Peggy. Mountain High Ranch was homesteaded in 1917 by Abel Montoya when the west was just starting to grow. Grandpa Abel had a vision for the future and a passion for family, farming and ranching. Times were hard, yet wildlife was abundant. Hunting was a way of trade, comraderie and survival. A man skilled with a gun or bow and a knife could survive the bitter cold winters. My dad, Leo Montoya continued the vision, raising 5 kids on dry-land, farming with his heart and sweat in ways that only farmers can understand. For three generations we have farmed the land, and we have worked to maintain Grandpa Abel's vision. Mountain High Ranch ® has striven to find a balance with nature, preserving it while developing it. Habitats for wildlife are getting harder to find and protect. We have added water sheds that feed ponds. The resident and migrating deer and elk are well fed.

Great hunting experience! Lots of wildlife, good service from the landowner. Loved the rugged experience--it was just what I wanted!
