What they show vs what you get

Picked up 3 Italian subs there yesterday. TERRIBLE ..... looked like a lettuce sandwich with a tiny bit of meat added. Been going there for many years but I won't be back. Looks like the new owners have ruined the place. This is what they show and what you actually get.

I love eating at Lilly's super subs. I always order the same sub and it's always delicious. Beer is super cold if that's what you're looking for and reasonably priced. The service is always quick and the food comes fast.

This has been on my want to try list for over a year, but due to them closing at 4:00 p.m. most days, it was difficult to get the opportunity. Going in there is a counter with a menu overhead. The clerk was on the phone so we were studying the board trying to decide what we wanted. A guy, who might be the owner, asked if we were dining in or to go. We were said we were going to eat there, and he directed us to a dining area behind the order counter that you couldn't see. We sat at the bar, And immediately noticed all the cans on the ceiling. We got menus and the server/bartender took our drink, orders promptly. I ended up getting the special of the day which was boneless wings and fries. When the wings came out, they were more like breaded elongated chicken nuggets versus boneless wings. They were the garlic, Parmesan variety and tasted pretty good. The fries were also good. They do not have Coke zero currently, but we were told that when that Diet Coke ran out, they were switching to Coke zero. The bartender seem to know everyone by name except us, so it seems to be a favorite by the locals. My husband got the sub, which was very impressive, and I would definitely get a sub next time.

A great family owned local favorite for many years. Today I resisted the temptation to go to ANOTHER national sub chain for a longtime customer friendly all around super cool restaurant that does an awesome job with sub sandwiches along with the other items on the menu. Today I ordered a cheesesteak and it was so delicious I couldn't even save half for later. The bread was soft, the steak was seasoned well, and I love the way they chopped the meat so that there were no large pieces as you bite into the sandwich. Everyone was so nice and attentive to everyone that was there, I could tell the regulars that came in, it seems they had there own table. While the inside is small, it's cozy and seems to be just the right size! I hope that you get a chance to experience local hospitality at its best. I'll be back soon and I hope to see you there:)

The Southern burger was great, but I tossed off the raw onions as I absolutely hate them, and added the lovely pickled onions from my wife's salad, which gave the perfect amount of flavor and color. Don't you agree? Give me a LIKE if you do !!! The crepe was next level. Delicate crepe, very soft ripe bananas, sauce was not disgustingly sugary, and the vanilla ice cream was smooth and soft, not icy and sweet. Dunno what brand they use, or if they churn the cream fresh in-house, but it made my day.

There are lots of delightful restaurants there (according to yelpers) but many were located downtown and parking was hard to find so we decided to go to Fifth Avenue Streatery since we had driven by and there was lots of parking. All of which the tables are outside on a charming patio with lots of interesting decor. It was 11:30 so the day was pleasant and sitting outside was fine. Not sure how I would feel about that in August. Our waitress was Haley (guessing at the spelling) and she was bubbly and very attentive. The menu wasn't overwhelming and I always think that's a good sign that most of the food is being prepared fresh and not pulled from a freezer. My mom ordered the fish sandwich with tomato and cucumber salad. After ordering the Italian Haley said they were out of beef until the owner arrived so I went for the day's special which was a seafood basket: two pieces of fried fish, four huge shrimp and clam strips. Clam strips are not my favorite but these were very crisp and tasty. It was served with fries and cold slaw. We both agreed the food was very good. I asked for some cocktail sauce and after a few minutes she came back with saying she had to make some. It was fantastic, very horseradish forward which I loved. I am glad we couldn't locate our first two choices since we got to eat at this funky little place and have the best server in all of Mt. Dora.

Have you ever wondered what German pastry heaven would look like?…read moreWell, look no further, Yalaha Bakery is what you've been dreaming of! My husband and I have been searching for a German bakery since we both have a sweet tooth for baked goodies. He's been telling me about how legendary German goulash tastes since before we got married (it's been a few years now ) and the Yalaha Bakery menu mentioned seasonal soup including goulash so of course we had to stop here. We visited on a rainy Wednesday afternoon around 4:45 pm. This place has modest architecture and a small parking lot, but don't let that fool you since as soon as you open the door, there are 4 glorious levels of tasty treats under a refrigerated glass display and fresh bread in shelves behind the counter. There were about 4 customers in the shop and a few others that came in while we were ordering. Everything looked so delectable, so it was hard to choose from the huge variety! Our bakery order ended up being quite large, so I'm glad my husband brought the cooler with him. We got 1 rhubarb pie (for a gift), 1 rhubarb streusel (another gift), 1 apple streusel, 1 German apple pie, 1 tiramisu, 2 lavender shortbread cookies, 1 eclair, 1 cream horn, 1 Brazilian caramel bar, 4 pretzel rolls, and 4 large pretzels. There might be a few other things as well. The order was about $125 with tip. Excellent customer service by the counter girl, and she was very patient while we were deciding on things. After we packed our pastries in the cooler, we went back to check out the deli section. They had a lot of German deli items to choose from, but what I was really interested in was the goulash. The very kind counter lady (possibly the owner?) took my order, and I couldn't have asked for a heartier, soul-warming soup for about $6. The meat was cooked to soft perfection. The veggies (peppers, tomato, and potato if I recall correctly) melted away while you sipped the soup that tasted like it was made by your favorite extra-skilled German grandma. I was in stew heaven. Of course, I shared a few spoonfuls with my husband, and it was gone in a few minutes. All in all, we discovered that Yalaha Bakery is a hidden gem in Yalaha, FL. If you love bakeries and handmade treats like we do, this is a great place to visit. Prepare your bank account to splurge on pastries, artisan German bread, and remember to stop by the deli! We'll be back again next time we're in the area on one of our road trips.

I think I also had high expectations since they have been awarded some accolades as well. It's located in downtown Mount Dora, which is a very cute are. It's walkable and there's some parks on that road. We got there, it is an opening seating arrangement and a small restaurant. It was really cute and they have wine slushies and I wish I could have had some of those. I got a regular smash burger with truffle parm fries. It was definitely on the more expensive end of food. The burger was not really a true smash burger, but it was fine. I would rate is a 7/10. The truffle parm fries were an 8.5/10. It was definitely made well, I just think I wish both items had more flavor to it. The truffle parm fries felt like it used truffle oil, which is fine, but I couldn't taste it strongly. I could smell it, but not taste. The burger, I just wished was actually smashed into the griddle where it gets really crispy. I will say the customer service was excellent. They misheard my partner order an extra patty and they brought it out to him immediately. Otherwise, they have a lot of sauces and other little things to place on the burger, so maybe that's why they keep it more basic. I did not see all that till after I already ate the whole thing. Overall, I think it's good and an 7/10 restaurant. I'd like to come back and try it again to get a better opinion of it.
