The actors fully embraced their roles in this fast-paced musical, delivering a delightful performance. They effortlessly mastered the fast-paced energy of the musical, captivating the audience with stellar vocals and dynamic dance numbers. In particular, Cameron Winbish, delivered a superb performance as Jack, anchoring the show with his stellar acting and exceptional singing. In the Director's Note in the program, Kerry Williams wrote: "Fairy tales often begin with a wish...This show has been a wish come true for me to direct...My wish now is that you leave with a little wonder of your own." My wish is that Attic Productions continue producing these high-quality shows, and that the community continue supporting them. For live theater is a shared experience between the audience and the performers. The audience experience life's joys, sorrows, and foibles. And from the actor's perspective, there is no more rewarding gift than feeling the reaction of the audience. To them there is no greater high than taking that final bow at the end of the show for a role well played.

Understandably, the presentation was geared to the 4 children which I was fine with. The adjoining museum holds a surprising amount of Jackson paraphernalia, and the attendants were most helpful. It's worth pointing out that we're in the south and Virginia fought for the Confederacy which may be a problem for some. The marker has the same text on both sides, reading "Virginia Military Institute instructor Maj. Thomas J. Jackson (1824-1863) and his second wife, Mary Anna Morrison (1831-1915), bought this house in 1858. Built ca. 1801, this typical middle-class dwelling was the only house Jackson ever owned. Enslaved African Americans Amy, Hetty, George, Cyrus, and Emma worked and lived on the property. Jackson left Lexington in April 1861 to fight for the Confederacy. Later known as "Stonewall," he became a lieutenant general. Mary Anna Jackson moved to North Carolina but owned this house until 1906, when it became the community hospital. The house has been a museum since 1954 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places." This is marker number Q-11-a and was erected by the Department of Historic Resources in 2021. We love this movie theater…read more It's a historic building but they just renovated the inside seating area. Each theater now has fully reclining plush lazy boy seats. It's very spacious, clean, and comfortable. They only show 2 movies at a time, but they are usually whatever is most popular at the time. They also have a decent concessions stand with soda, popcorn, and candies. At $9 for an adult Friday night ticket, that price is hard to beat!

They represent more than 260 artists from all over the Alleghany Highlands area (Southwest Virginia and parts of West Virginia). The friendly, volunteer staff were helpful and excited to share information about the handmade treasures found here. I was surprised by the variety of artwork and I want to highlight a few types that I loved: painting (realism, abstract, impressionistic, expressionistic, etc.) wood working (turned wood, live edge, sculpture, table ware, and decorative), jewelry making (custom designs in both traditional and modern versions), crafting (quilts, basket weaving, sewing, etc.), and photography (black and white, artistic, realistic styles and subjects such as nature, landscapes and local sites such as the Washington and Lee campus). Also, for the first time, I saw fly fishing lures displayed along with other crafts. Perfect, and well-deserved! I found this store after glimpsing the main sign on route 64. After you get off the exit (24 I believe), just follow signs into old town (historic) Clifton Forge and continue to Ridgeway Street. Note: this non-profit center appears to be located in a former retail space, so it is not a stand alone building, it is located in a row of shops (near Cafe Museo). Look for the Cafe Museo sign which is easy to spot. There is plenty of street parking. This place is a real treat and I wish I had more time to take one of their classes, add the walking tour of old town, and stop at one of the lunch spots nearby. I visited after a morning hike at Douthat State Park, but this shop is also easily accessible to visitors from the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest, Goshen, Warm Springs, Lexington, Covington, or anyone passing through to Beckley or the the New River Gorge National Park or Gauley River National Recreation Area. Before the next holiday or family celebration, consider a thoughtful, handmade gift from this unique shop and support local artists in the area.

Along with wine tastings, Ecco Adesso offers their 350 acre farm as a place to explore the vineyards, hiking trails, meadows, orchards, waterfalls and creeks that are on the grounds. I got a wine flight, which included four 2-ounce pours. There are four flights to choose from, and I chose the Old World/New World flight, which had two Chardonnays and two Cabernet Francs. I'm not a Chardonnay person at all, but I'm 100% a Cab Franc person. It turns out, I really loved the Chardonnay! Who'd-a known. That's the great thing about doing a flight: You can try something new and maybe discover something about yourself along the way. I enjoyed my wine flight on the big porch outside of the winery. The porch overlooks the beautiful grape vineyards, and it's a picturesque sight to behold for sure. The porch has big rocking chairs, so you can sit and sip and rock and stare at the scenery. I found that the people who work here were incredibly friendly and helpful. At one point, I wanted to try a little taste of a different wine that wasn't on my flight, and they didn't even blink and just gave me a pour. So nice!

The vineyard reminded me of a charming château, with its picturesque surroundings and elegant atmosphere. It was a truly unforgettable experience that left me feeling inspired and rejuvenated. I was warmly welcomed by Brian and a lovely young lady (I apologize for forgetting your name). They were both delightful and made me feel right at home. Brian even took me on a tour of the cellar and eagerly answered all of my questions! They offered four different types of wine flights for tasting. One from Williamsburg Vineyard, one from Sassaia Vineyards (from Italy, as they are close friends), an old world vs new world flight, and one from Ecco Adesso. I decided to go with the flight from the winery. My favorites were the 2022 Petit Manseng and the 2022 new world Chardonnay. I highly recommend making the drive to the vineyard as it does not disappoint with its wines, beautiful scenery, sheep, and overall serenity. Don't forget to pack a picnic!

I shared it with some people who love the sweets, so I didn't drink as much. Along with wine tasting, they offer wine slushies and little appetizers to purchase, like locally made cheeses, salami, crackers, chips and popcorn. This is not a restaurant, so you won't find a meal. But you can also bring your own food, if you like. During the summer months, they have food trucks on select days.

Shenandoah Academy has been in the area for nearly 12 years. The first studio was in the DMV strip…read moremall area. It moved to a larger space in BV and is now in the Art and Cultural Center along with the Kids University art classes. Beautiful bright studio but the best part is the instruction. Missy Floyd has a gift for bringing out the best in each dancer. The classes for the youngest are full of fun and love of movement. Classes for older students are ability based and many younger dancers gain experience by dancing with students a little older. Her students have received scholarships and acceptances to the Joffrey, Gelsey Kirkland's year round academy, BYU, Ballet West and the companies of the Richmond and Louisville Ballets among others. This studio is where young dancers have fun and older students development skills to continue dance past high school if the choose. This studio does not typical do recitals or showcases; they do ballets. Full length, classical ballets which includes The Nutcracker each December. The students are all very friendly, welcome new members in with open arms and truly have a great time.
