I spoke with Vanessa at Lanitech and outlined what my friend was looking for. Vanessa said that it wouldn't be difficult (or terribly expensive, fortunately) and asked for my friend's contact info. After I got a look at the preliminary site design I was very pleasantly surprised at how professional it looked, and how easy to navigate the whole thing was. Worst company ever…read more 9 months to do a 3 month job. Missed deadline after deadline. Owner (Vanessa) doesn't know the difference between Java & Javascript. Owner charges US prices, but hires overseas programmers where's there's lots of language issues and very junior skill level. Uses templates that are reminiscent of the 90's. AJAX has been huge in designing web pages since the mid 2000's, but they use very little of it. Doesn't keep up with today's web standards. Doesn't even follow the standards of the template system they're using. They do a VERY poor job of listening to their clients needs. Even when it's in writing. They also don't have anyone in charge of verifying the pages do what they are supposed to do, leaving it to the customer to do that part of the job for them. They will make good on any errors on their part (contractually bound), but you will spend countless hours getting them to make it right. This is what they are good at: They will take a framework/template that already does what you need, change the wording & graphics, and set the built-in options, then give it back to you. Charging you $1000's for just a few hours of work. For those that don't understand templates, think of it as an MS Word doc template that's used for property leasing. You download the template, then just change the name, address, and other details. Now you have a lease that's all yours. It's about the same thing with web templates.

I simply couldn't disagree more, so here's my experience: I have had a chance to work with Josh, Nichole and Adam and they're fantastic. The site that they designed for me was clean and precise. I'm certainly not artistic and most of my directions are in the vein of "I like that" or "that sucks." Somehow, they managed to interpret that into something coherent and helpful to my business. I won't cross-promote my page here, but suffice it to say that I've gotten compliments on my website and I've referred Lofty Word quite a few clients as a result. I'm not sure if Deborah's review (the only other review as of this writing) is real or simply a competitor looking to hurt the competition, but my experience could not have been better. Last thing - I'm a pretty frugal guy and I compared Lofty Word's price quote against other agencies that I had spoken with; it was in line with the competition, though certainly not as cheap as some of those "create your own website" folks you see on TV.
