I think Apple Fest is a great way to bring in the autumn season. Tasty Apple harvest. Cute town square good selection of seasonal vendors. It brings small town feels to the city. The leaves are changing on Lincoln Ave and the air smells like sweet fruit and cinnamon. It's very family friendly we a large kids sections and multiple performance stages. Take in some folksy acoustic music while sitting on a hay bale, enjoy some hot apple cider, and of course some fresh apple pie. read more

First the annoyance: The festival started at 9 am, but there were quite a few booths that weren't ready at that time. For the most part that was some of the food booths so fine, I wasn't going to eat anything that early anyway. AppleFest Is a better fest than a lot of the other fruit-forward festivals because it actually has a lot of items that follow the theme or things that complement it. You'll find bushels and bushels of apples, apple cider, donuts, raclette, hard cider, and so on. Many of the neighborhood restaurants have booths here. There are many vendors, and some of those are in the neighborhood as well, but its not limited just to stores in the square. I bought some earrings from a place called Milagros that works with women in Guatemala to make them, and they have a portion of their fingerprint on them. Eco and the Flamingo had a booth, so I purchased a couple things from them too, as well as Nomadic Ant. The woman at one of the textile booths said she'll make me a Little Bean onesie for my bean since she didn't have the right color and size, and I bought a few things from another textile artist whom I hadn't heard of--Tori Grace Outfitters--and ended up with some super cute things (and now we're ready for baby's first Cubs game!). I think the best food really was the apple pie from The Chopping Block. In the first two years of the pandemic they offered full pies in the cast iron pan and I didn't buy one, but I probably should have even though I definitely shouldn't have. They're back to selling single slices and wow, it's probably the best apple pie I've ever tasted. It was somewhat tart, and it didn't have a traditional pie crust; rather, it reminded me a bit of a cobbler crust. We are lucky to have this festival right in our neighborhood. For 2023, they have expanded it significantly because where it once went from Lawrence to Leland, it now extends down to Sunnyside just before Welles Park so another two blocks or so. The children's section is great! There were lots of activities for the little ones and I look forward to bringing my own little one to it in the future. There three stages, one in Giddings Plaza, one in the children's section, and one in the Old Town School parking lot. Events started early, at least in the kids area, and go throughout the day. Parking is questionable but luckily the Western Brown Line stop is literally steps away from one of the entrances, so that would definitely be the easiest way to get there. They have ATMs posted in several areas but many or most of the booths took cards or digital wallets, and some had credit only or cash only lines. The cash only lines were definitely shorter on some of the booths. I think we'll be back regardless of whether we're still in Ravenswood. read more

Fun fall day event. Had a friend in town and wanted to go get some yummy candy apples. This event was free with a $5 suggested donation. Overall a fun time. There was a lot of people here and the energy was all good. Everyone just wanted to enjoy food, music and each other. They had two sound stages (1 kid friendly). Event had some seating located throughout the festival. I appreciated that since it was a food heavy event. Lines for some vendors were ridiculously long. Some of our favorites: Candy Apples, Cold Apple Cider, Corn dog, Funnel Cake with Apples, and Hard Cider. So many vendors plus local businesses were open too. Lots of shops nearby to cool off and grab your pup some fresh water. Cool event, will come back next year. I also got 6 mini pumpkin for $5. read more

I went to the Lincoln Square apple fest for the first time today and it was a very large turn out. The food was very good. I bought the Dinkel apple doughnuts a gallon of apple cider and two crates of apples. You would definitely need to pack your patience. There were a lot of dogs, children families and strollers. It will take time maneuvering through all the people, but I had a good time. Everybody was kind and friendly to one another. I can definitely recommend attending this event. The entertainment was good too. Seating was sort of limited unless you were eating but a lot of people sat on the curbs. It was fine once in a while I caught a cool breeze, It was pretty warm today. if you plan on buying apples, apple cider, apple pies, etc. a little cart with wheels, is a must, because there are lots of vendors to choose from. I brought my Folding Shopping Cart, which is narrow it folds up nicely, very durable (I've had mines for about 10 years) and you can get a lot of items in it. It's easy to maneuver, through crowds and tight places. read more

Lincoln Square Apple Fest used to be one of my favorite fall activities. It's extremely family oriented and dog friendly, so it can get a little chaotic, but the tons of delicious food completely made up for it! What happened to the food this year?!?!? On their website they had tons of options promised; Apple empanadas, grilled cheese with apples, apple samosas, Apple creme brûlée, churros with apple chutney, Apple pie, and so much more! At 2:30pm when we showed up (with the fest happening until 6:00pm!) 80% of the food was "sold out" or the food booths were no shows. We were so disappointed. Pro-Tip: skip the slice of Chopping Block pie (served room temp with unsweetened whipped cream) and get a warmed up mini pie a la mode from Flirty Cupcakes instead. Be warned that Flirty also sold out at 2:30 though, so GO EARLY. You can thank me later. I won't return to Apple Fest next year unfortunately. :( read more

Prepare yourself to break the bank. Over priced food. 80$ in one booth alone, for only 4 items! No prices available so they can charge you whatever and you'd never know. Bring cash or prepare to be charged 5 dollars to take out money at their Atm. Not all businesses accpeted card. On top of that apon arrival they have a 5$ SUGGESTED donation. We'll the lady at the gate didn't appreciate us walking passed her and in a very passive aggressive (more aggressive than anything) tone turned to us and shouted "OR NOT, DONT DONATE, JUST KEEP ON WALKING". Everything is over priced. So many people! Not that that's a bad thing per say, just no one want to move out the way, they'd rather walk into you than around you. Entitled people everywhere. no direction, everything is all over the place. A couple places listed were not even there?! Over all I give this fest a 1 star. Will not be attending another one. Went to the Apple Fest this year and had a lot of fun! It was really hot and sunny outside this weekend, so I was grateful for the tables set up in the shade so you could take a break from the heat and eat or just sit down for a minute. The garbage men coming by with trash cans were so sweet and helpful. One of the best parts of the Fest was all the shops, restaurants, and businesses that were open and happily participating in the festivities and so welcoming to the large crowds. They were also all participating in a scarecrow contest you could vote on which was so fun. I just wish there were less of the irrelevant businesses out there on the path with booths taking up space... and I also wish that they had made a map with all the vendors and their locations along the paths because it was difficult searching up and down the paths in the heat and crowd to find the specific vendor you want to visit. Overall, it was a great event and we will definitely be attending next year! read more

We saw signs up in the neighborhood for the apple fest and decided to stop by for lunch. Took a looksy at all the food vendors before ordering a funnel cake, apple cotton candy (yum), and Taco In A Bag's cider braised pork (also yum). There were samples of apple ciders floating around, and we bought 2 half gallon varieties of our favorites. Fun perusing the stalls and people watching. How do you like them apples? I like em, I like em a lot. Lincoln Square, bordering between Leland, Western, and Lincoln itself, is home of several festivals throughout the Chicago warm months. Lincoln Square Apple Fest is definitely a festival worth checking out. As of 2018, there's a suggested donation of $5 at the entrance, which isn't too bad. The festival hosts several vendor and food tents. From apple donuts, to apple cider, to a kids area, and plenty of portapotties, Lincoln Square Apple Fest has a variety of things to offer to a variety of people. There's a music stage (with non stage lights surprisingly) at one end and if the fest isn't really your thing, since this festival is primarily on Lincoln Ave, you can walk through and check out the stores there. Plenty of puppy dogs to look at and while the CTA Brown Line rumbles above you. A city fest at its finest. read more

This is a great fest but get there early if you have kids. I liked how the fest had lots of unique food options but at 3;00 pm the lines were very very long. I liked how they had many beer choices and craft options unlike regular Chicago fests. They also had cider stations. The pathways through the fest were absolutely packed and almost impossible to get through with a double stroller. The kids section was nice but also packed. We had a great time but will 100% go near 10 am next year so we can enjoy the food and atmosphere. Also parking is difficult . Lots of great food vendors, many of them are local. There's some booth you can buy honey or apples from, and lots of apple desserts. It gets very crowded and I felt that the way it was set up was unthoughtful. Almost all of the food vendors were set up in one area and it was by one of the entrances so it was super congested and hard to get around. Most vendors run out of things very quickly so I suggest getting there early. The lines are chaotic. Overall it's okay, it was cool going once but don't think I'll go again. read more

I thought that Apple Fest was cute, but where are all of the apples? I arrived around 12:30 and left around 2pm after popping into several stores. I loved the pumpkin and squash vendor. I didn't see anyone with an apple donut, I saw two apple pies at $20 each, I saw one place with Applewood Pulled Pork, but they were out of the bread pudding. I didn't see any apple sauces and only one vendor appeared to have jams, butters, and syrups and ciders. I did see some people selling baskets of apples at I believe $8 for what looked like 2lbs of apples. When you tell me "Apple Fest" I'm thinking donuts, pancakes, cakes, candied apples, apple salsa, apple freaking soap and lotion. Some of the lines were absolutely out of a nightmare for Dinky's for example. Really hard to navigate with human sized (ADORABLE) dogs and space ship strollers (not so adorable), but isn't that the norm of every Chicago fest? Would I go next year? Um, well maybe! I think they need to add more vendors so that lines aren't so crazy. Maybe multiple vendors with cupcakes, pies, etc so not just one vendor has them, has a long line, gets to charge +++ prices, and blocks up all of the traffic. read more

Eh, it was okay. At least we got perfect fall weather for it. We arrived at about 2pm (it ended at 4), and there was only one stand actually selling apples and they seemed completely disinterested. For an apple fest, I thought there would be more APPLES but maybe people had already packed up for the day. It was kind of a bummer. There was a good crowd and the street was pretty packed. The hay maze was demolished by the time we made it, but all the kids had a blast just jumping around and playing in the hay. (Note to self - don't buy future kid fancy toys, just give them a bail of hay to play in.) It's a small festival, maybe a block or two long at most. Not a lot to see. We actually had more fun going in and out of all the local shops than we did at any of the street fest vendors. I'd go back again and hope for a better experience earlier in the day. read more

I didn't event know this festival existed until one of my friends invited me to go. Went early afternoon on a Sunday and it was pretty busy. The weather was perfect so I shouldn't be surprised that everyone was out. A large variety of food and drink stands so it was really hard to decide where to get something. Ended up at Jerry's for Gene's Smoked Sausage which was pretty good. It started with a long line but it went pretty quickly. Bottled cider was a popular choice as some stands sold out quickly, if you do want to buy something you have to decide pretty fast otherwise it might be gone soon. read more

Fun free event for a weekend! They only request that you donate - cash or through Venmo. I expected it to be a bit bigger and have more food vendors, but the overall event was a lot of fun. We had two 2 year olds and a baby. It was very crowded walking through even around 10am, but that's to be expected. They had a couple of crafts for the kids, which was a lot of fun for them to do. We bought some apple cider and some Chicago flag shirts for the kids from a vendor. The vendors include jewelry, soaps, pet supplies and food, apples and apple cider (hot or cold), clothing and other food goods. iThe area of Logan Square is a beautiful setting for a festival because it has a lot of lovely quaint shops all around that you can visit while at the festival. read more

I look forward to fall activities more than my own birthday, and the Lincoln Square Apple Fest is typically a part of my autumnal rotation. This year, it rained cats and dogs. I mean not literally, though that would have been awesomeeeee, but it poured the rain. Tough luck for the fest, considering what a gorgeous fall Chicago experienced this year. But the mister and I slogged through the damp and wet and went about perusing the different vendors. This year they were all about the same. The same variety of apples, the same over-priced cider, and the same delectable pies. In hindsight, I should have bought a pie. They were beautiful and probably tasted even better. The apple selection could have been better but I understand that's up to the farmers. And God. I was still disappointed I didn't find any Jonah Golds though. I did find a lot of pumpkins to bring home, which pleased me to no end. However, whatever is in water in LS4 has got the kiddies up there acting a fool. I was in the middle of perusing some lovely baby Cinderella pumpkins when a small female human approached me and kept telling me "I wan a punkin!" Ok... I don't care... who are you even? I thought I had shaken her tail on me by moving down the pumpkin display, but after I huddled under the umbrella with the mister, the small human found me again, shoved a pumpkin in a my face, and proceeded to demand that I buy her that pumpkin. Not to worry, I set her straight and told her she did not belong to us and then shooed her out of our umbrella space. Some SERIOUS shade was thrown to her parents over by the cider who couldn't be bothered to coral their git. They of course didn't care and were probably relieved to have a few minutes of peace from their minion. I, on the other hand, am now scarred for life. read more

After being away from Chicago for a few years, it was nice to return to Chicago to go to a few street festivals. And even though this is not your typical festival (this is more family friendly), it is one of my favorite ones. You got apple pie by the Chopping Block, sausages by Chicago Brauhouse, pork by Foutain Head and a few other places.... Then there is apple cider, apple whiskey, apples, crepes, and you leave with a stomach ache. If you were planning to get your standard street festival food here, this is not the place for you. Apple Fest was a bit underwhelming. That or my expectations were too high. I love Lincoln Square so the location was perfect as was the weather, but I really felt like that could have been more vendors selling apple related products. I saw maybe no more than 5 booths selling apple products. I didn't see an apple pie when I stopped by around 2:00. Needless to say, I did not get my hands on the infamous apple pie from Chopping Block mentioned in the other reviews. Nope. They were all out by the time I got there. My boyfriend and I walked around a little bit and then waited in a long line for apple cider. Unfortunately, he got a lukewarm cup while mine was burning hot since it was from a new batch. That was a little disappointing. We both a gallon of apple cider for $9 and it tastes yummy, but is a bit much price wise, but understandable since we were at Apple Fest. Overall, OK, but definitely would not trek all the way out from the suburbs to it unless I had other things planned to do in the area. read more

This stretch of Lincoln Ave already gets me kind of frazzled on a normal day with the car vs pedestrian traffic. But close the street down, add booths/vendors, a doggie costume contest, a bouncy house castle, strollers upon strollers and it becomes a hot mess. I love fests and this one offers some great things--neighborhood businesses handing out information, free contests (I won 2 mos of free classes at a gym!) fresh apple farm apples and yummy apple pie from the chopping block. It was just so congested, there was hardly any room to walk/maneuver. When you had to line up for things--like the donut vendor or the bounce house, you ended up lining up in front of other vendor's booths. Not cool for them and not cool for the folks that want to check that vendor out. The space they gave for Timeless toys and the products they were showcasing was unbelievably small so kids were just kind of climbing over each other to play with the items. I don't shy away from events that are "Family Friendly". I get it, there will be lots of kids, and strollers. My 3 year old was excited to go to this. We arrived early (915) and it got crowded fast. But this fest, ugh, by 1030 I was ready to call it quits. We hit Merz and Provenance and got the heck out of there. I love the stuff that I ended up buying at the fest--donuts, fresh apples and the apple pie, but I don't think I'll return to the fest unless there are some logistical changes. read more

The Lincoln Square Apple Fest is usually a small event and I honestly just ran in to grab a piece of the apple pie from the Chopping Block. I've always heard such great reviews of their iron skillet apple pie that they serve at Apple Fest - I had to try it. It was excellent! Great taste, light crust. I was hoping to take home apple pie, donuts, tarts or something. There was just nothing there to buy, and I so wanted to. This is the first year I have attended this fest, and I really enjoyed it! It is definitely kid-focused, which is well-suited for our family-friendly neighborhood of Lincoln Square. There were some cute kiddie activities including a little hay maze for them. I picked up some delicious Honey Crisp apples from a local orchard as well as some jams and apple syrup. I also split a piece of the skillet apple pie from the Chopping Block with my sister. HEAVENLY! Seriously sooooo good! This is a fun little festival geared toward kiddies but also a great place to pick up some apple treats. My one complaint -- no apple cider donuts?! We have friends who live in Lincoln Square, and visit them from time to time. They told us about this festival, and since we know the area fairly well and really enjoy this area of the city, we thought we would hit up this fest on Saturday. We arrived about 1:15 pm. There was no music, so it didn't give me a festive vibe. The crowd was a bit strange too. It was a gray and gloomy Chicago afternoon with light rain, on and off, as we walked through the apple fest. We walked and walked for a while before stumbling upon the apple vendors. They were selling cinnamon apple bread at $10 a loaf. I can get the same kind of loaf at the Swedish Bakery for half the price! We had to walk almost to the very end of the vendors before we found any apples. WTF! Finally, we found Fuji Apples from a Michigan farmer. We purchased 2 quarts (for a total of $6). We walked around for 30-minutes, looked at each other and said "Let's hit up the Lakeview Taco Fest." Before we left I noticed "The Chopping Block" offering home made apple pie. My husband loves apple pie, so he purchased a slice. He said it was A-OK and rated it with 3-stars. I took one tiny bite and the crust was sponge-like. I didn't care for the crust. I rate the crust with 2-stars while the apples inside were tart, sprinkled with cinnamon and a light brown sugar. I tasted one tiny piece of apple, which was excellent. The apples inside the pie are worthy of 4-stars. The slice of pie from "The Chopping Block" was a decent slice of apple pie, but at $6 per slice, it was a bit on the pricey side. We are a couple with disposable income. We are not thrifty with our money. However, the Lincoln Square Apple Fest was not inexpensive. Although there were some vendors that were on the pricey side we did manage to find other vendors who were more reasonable. We grabbed a couple of veal bratwursts with sauerkraut which made for the perfect amalgamation. They were purchased at the Chicago Brauhaus (a German restaurant that has been around for a very long time in Lincoln Square) and we both agreed that the veal brats were worthy of 4-stars. We stood under a tree eating our veal brats, because it started raining lightly. Thankfully, we had an umbrella. This festival is geared toward young families. We saw children with balloons. We also noticed a lot of young families with baby carriages. This was our first time attending the Lincoln Square Apple Fest. We do not plan on returning next year. They were selling apple cider, but at $10 a gallon, I'll go to Mariano's and pick up a gallon for a lot less than 10 bucks. I would have to be super drunk to pay $10 for a gallon of apple cider! I recommend this festival for young families. We were disappointed that there weren't more apple vendors here. After all, the name of this festival is the "Lincoln Square Apple Fest," but we found this festival boring and uneventful. We ate Fuji apples on Saturday evening. They were juicy and sweet and very, very delicious. We both agreed that the Fuji apples from Michigan were 5-star worthy! We headed over to the Lakeview Taco Fest and were glad that we did, because it had a pretty good vibe, nice crowds, really good live music and best of all fantastic, flavorful tacos. I found Apple Fest really disappointing. It was supposed to end at 4, and we got there at 2:30, and everything was basically closing down. All the food vendors were gone by 3pm, and we only had time to pick up a handful of apples before everything was sold out. We didn't see any cider, apple pie, or caramel apples, which are things I thought we'd definitely come home with. We came to this festival by accident. We were returning a toy to a store that happened to be in the middle of the festival. There were so many people that it was hard to move around. There were a couple of things that sounded delicious to eat but the lines were so long that it made it not worth it. There were so kid things to do but the lines for those were insanely long too. There are some vendors selling regular apples too -- I ate a couple of apples from Foster Farms from Ft. Wayne, IN, but overall, we were disappointed that there weren't more vendors. Interestingly the longest lines of people were for Dinky Donuts. Finally, there are nice activities for the little girls and boys, including a bouncing castle. Out of Lincoln Square's long list of festivals, I sadly have to place Apple Fest towards the bottom of the list. Keep in mind, I did arrive two hours prior to the event's end, but there were practically no apples to be found! What kinda apple fest is it?! This event in particular is very kid-orientated with hay to play in, live music/games, story-telling and even Scooby Doo's Mystery Machine to accompany you in a picture. My partner and I dressed up as characters (him being the evil monster of course) and we made fools of ourselves---Ruh Ro! I was hoping to not only find more apples for purchase, but also more apple items (pies, crumbles, cider, caramel apples, etc). There were only enough to count on one hand. I loved this fest last year but this year the lines were so incredibly long it just wasn't worth it. Last year I bought things from at least 4 different vendors, this year, I got some snacks and left. Not worth the trip out. read more
