There is a shared living room, kitchen, and wrap around porch. We spent hours on the porch as we don't have any outdoor space at our home in the city. We met sooo many nice people who were staying there and we all hung out on the porch together each day. We arrived on a Sunday night and learned from other guests that no places are open for dining on Sundays, so we went to the local food store and bought steaks and other side dishes and cooked out on the gas grill area. Like everyone is saying in their reviews, the breakfast is spectacular. We also bought a ton of homemade jam, salsa, and honey in the gift shop. It was quite reasonably priced. In terms of exercising, I didn't really feel safe biking or running from the bnb as the roads have no shoulder and the large trucks speed down the road, but my bf biked from there every day. I walked the steep hilly dirt road across the street and drove to safer places to run/bike. Everything is a pretty far drive away, but I think that is normal life for this part of the state and we just enjoyed the scenery of country life on our drives. I def would stay here again next time if I come back to this area.

We enjoyed sitting on the covered porch of the farmhouse and playing board games while we waited for dusk. Breakfast was delicious - plenty of options to meet every palate. Lots of cute goodies in the gift shop as well. Price was very reasonable, especially for the service provided. We would love to stay again one day!

No reply other than we have a 14 day cancellation policy. I get it just disappointed I couldn't get a return call from the owner. I feel the right thing to do was to return one night (over 200.00)

They are the most accommodating, compassionate and genuine people you will ever meet. They go above and beyond in what you would ever expect from hotel owners. The food at the bar is phenomenal and moderately priced. Everything I've had has been great, especially the burgers! The only down falls are the rooms are quaint, no traditional double rooms and if you have extended stays, the house keeping isn't kept up on without prompting. Minor details. They have neat A-frame houses, one single and large one with 4 separate "cabins" that are unique and awesome. The staff and food are worth the try!!!!

One reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars. I no longer drink so I try to stay away from bars. But being a bar it has bar food. And like most bars the food they have is usually good. This place didn't disappoint. My wife and I both got Burgers. Now a pet peeve of ours is having the meat on top of the tomato and onion. Not a big deal but with the weight on top it slides all over and comes apart easy. With the meat being the base on the bottom it is easier to hold together while eating. I'll get off my soap box now... The burgers were good and cooked as we requested. Now the seasoning they used was a hit and miss, some bites had a lot of flavor and others were just beef. Not a bad thing. The serving sizes are pretty large. The burger was too big for my wife to get a good bite. She is a little woman... Being in the north I was very surprised that they didn't have malt vinegar for the fries. I am willing to bet that a Friday or Saturday night dinner would be great here. We stopped for lunch on a Tuesday. The waitress was very nice and I am not sure that she wasn't the only one there cooking as well. I didn't ask but either way she did an amazing job. I like to use the term 'shunpiker' anyway... i just took out a map and looked it over until i found something cool. having already been to dozens of state parks all over the state i decided to head north. We decided to visit the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon in Winter. so i did some searching on google for other nearby attractions and things to do. got directions from google.maps.com and then started to look for accomidations. this motel was on the west rim on the canyon, right across from the enterance basically. we called and confirmed that we would be staying, since we were not going to get there right away they left the key to our room out under a box by the front door. we arrived there after several hours of driving. we went to our room, turned the tv and heat on and crashed. the rooms were pleasant and comfortable, there were probably about 15 roioms total. they had nice clean baths and clean floors. there was a desk, table and dresser with a notebook and calender on it. they next moring we went in and they owners were both there, we got a breakfast meal for about 4 or 5 dollars. and they cooked everything themselves. it was just coffee, oj, bacon, toast and eggs. great lodging, a step away from heaven!

It was the last hotel on my list, having been born and raised in Emporium, and I knew it's reputation. But, I needed to get to Emporium. I had a family member that was in final stages of life. So I did it. What I walked into was a hotel room that looked like it was part of a Hollywood scene for an ax murder screenplay. There was black mold on the inside of the windows, Rust in the bathroom on the floor by the toilet.... Rust inside the shower. And the bed. Oh the bed. I checked out a day early because I could no longer stomach the bed. The bed smelled like someone had puked all over it. When I checked out and told Amanda about this, she told me under no uncertain terms that I would not be getting a refund for the day I checked out. It's in the print she said. Now if you look at the print, even with reading glasses, you can't read it. It is so small you would need a high density magnifying glass to read it. There is no check in or check out times listed anywhere for this hotel. there is no coffee anywhere in this hotel. They do offer a refrigerator in a microwave. And beds that apparently smell like puke. I can honestly tell you that because it was the only hotel I could get at that point, I didn't want to complain. I was only in that room to pause and sleep while my family member was transitioning between life and death. This is a heavy subject for me and not one I normally would ever share online. But the way Amanda treated me was heinous. This whole family does not care about their hotel. Or their guests. They should not be in a business that faces people. So I may as well spill the beans. there are supposed to be an extra lock on the door that protects people. It's the little safety lock on the door that is supposed to give a person extra protection. Half of it was broken off. I really didn't feel safe, but my only option was to have stayed in St. Mary's, which was 20 miles away. Here's my recommendation. If you have time to plan a trip to Emporium, stay at a bed-and-breakfast if you can. There are some that are around town, and some that are outside of town. Please do not stay at the Buttonwood Inn. It's not safe, it's not health safe, and I don't know how the health department does not shut this entire place down. And by the way, this is all in my humble opinion. :-)
