Was told not to go to Linnea's 's to have jewelry repaired but instead I went spent about $300 to have batteries put in my watch and new watch, bands and rings resize. Went on vacation and one of the watches died. Came home went to Linnea's. I know they were closing. I just wanted to let them know that I needed a new battery because it wasn't working, right The owner said to me is probably your watch there's something wrong with it. I got disgusted walked out she came running out to tell me that she had been in business for 40 years and she knew what she was talking about well as it turned out, it was the battery I did not have them repaired. I was in Linnea's twice for repairs. The girls there got to know me just a bit, as we would chat while I waited. A few months later my boyfriend went in to shop for a Valentines gift for me. They remembered exactly who I was, just at the mention of my name, and they helped Jim pick out the absolutely perfect gift for me. I have never been more pleased with, or flattered by any gift. Last week I dropped off my mom's necklace for restringing and a clasp fix. I was quoted one price and by the time it was ready to be picked up, the price had almost doubled. ($36 to $63... I'm sure the sales associate just transposed her numbers. She was friendly and I'm sure it was an honest mistake.) I went to pick it up yesterday, and immediately saw it wasn't done properly. The original necklace had knots that are meant to separate the beads and be a color contrast. But it wasn't done like that at all. The knots were now so little that they were slipping inside the bead holes allowing the beads to touch. I kindly pointed it out to the friendly sales associate, she agreed it wasn't done right, and went to talk to the owner. Owner: I hear you're unhappy with the work? Me: Yes, the knots should be visible and should keep the beads from touching, as they were originally when I brought it to you. Owner: I'm going to explain this only once, so listen carefully... Me: Um...I... Owner: I said listen carefully... Me: I don't think it's necessary to speak to me that way. Owner: Ok, how would you like me to speak to you? I started to try to say something like, I'm sure I could have understood whatever you wanted to explain to me without..... but before I could even answer she walked away from me and went into the back. When she came out, she spoke to me in a slow sing-songy baby voice and said they would try again with double knots between the larger beads and asked if that would make me happy. All choked up I managed to get out that I just wanted it to have the appearance it had when I brought it in to you. After that I don't even know what else was said. UPDATE: I texted the number the sales associate used to communicate with me. I asked that they not do any further repair and that I'd be in tomorrow to pick up the necklace. The owner said condescendingly, "Yes, ma'am!" When I went it, they couldn't find it. Then once it was found, she proceeded to tell me the charge was $63. We went back and forth about how it wasn't done correctly/yes it was. She said that yesterday I tossed the necklace back and insulted "her girl." That absolutely didn't happen. I did say it wasn't done correctly, and at the time she agreed that at least the larger beads should have had double knots in between. She was telling me that I had a problem and just wanted it for free. No, not at all. I just want it done the way it was when I brought it to you. She told me to leave her store and never come back. The only reason I went back after spending last night in tears was to get the necklace. I have an artist/jewelry making friend who read my Facebook post and she's going to do it with the proper knots in between the beads. Don't worry, I'll never even walk past your shop again. You're one of the meanest people I've ever encountered. read more

Had a new ring fashioned for me at Linnea using my old gold rings and broken jewelry. It still was not inexpensive. But I love the new ring! I am well pleased with how it looks, fits etc. and will probably always wear it. However, I won't be returning to shop at Linnea due to the condescending and patronizing attitude of the owner. I'm surprised the woman has not mastered better interpersonal skills in dealing with the public. I'll shop elsewhere. read more

Love Linnea! Ok. So I worked at Tiffany & Co. in Corporate Sales for 8 years, and then worked in Corporate Sales for another outfit for one year following that. From both my experiences I found out about quality & mark-up! My eyes were opened about how much quality can be unnecessarily marked up. And I know quality. We have been faithful to an amazing jeweler in NYC but we don't live there anymore.... Now I know an awesome jeweler in La Grange IL., Denise and her staff are wonderful. I first brought in the clasp on some vintage pearls to be fixed, and while I was there was offered a complimentary cleaning of my rings. Great. But what was even better I was the advice I got. The stones in my eternity band were dangerously loose! I had no idea! The antique engagement ring's stones were fine and they had been checked years ago when I received the new ring for our "10th". So, people, make sure you have your rings that you wear daily, checked every six months. Linnea Jewelers saved me from disaster. Now, every time I get my watch battery replaced - or get a new leather strap- I have my rings cleaned and checked. Last week I went in and it was and easy fix :) The antique diamonds were loose, and I was without them for less than a day. Now all are safe and sparkly. Linnea can create made-to-order jewelery designs and custom re-crafting of your old jewelry into re-imagined works of art. While searching for an engagement ring, Linnea was by far the place I liked the most. I went to a bunch of stores, all the big ones and some small ones, but none of them made me feel as comfortable during the process than Denise and her staff made me feel here. About a week later, Denise had more than 10 diamonds to show me and we sat down and looked at each one under a microscope over the next hour. They were so accommodating that she actually did this twice with me and showed me things about diamonds that no other jeweler had. In the end, I picked a diamond and setting I couldn't be happier with. Working with Denise is a dream! We came to Linnea Jewelers to purchase a wedding band for my husband and myself. Denise worked with us to create a custom wedding band to coordinate with my high-end desiger engagement ring. Denise was very patient with me as we made the decisions leading up to creating a custom ring. We were thrilled to find out that creating a custom ring would be a fraction of the price of purchasing a designer band. My band is gorgeous and I could not be happier with the final product. She beautifully copied the details of my ring - down to the secret diamond on the inside of the band. Thank you! In addition to helping design a custom wedding band, Denise and her team also helped repair my engagement ring. I had noticed that my diamond was making a clicking noise. The original jeweler we had purchased from said that it was nothing to worry about, but Denise and her team took additional steps to make sure the diamond was secure. They examined my ring in front me with a microscope and found that one of the prongs was no longer touching the diamond. They were thorough in their assessment of the issue and even allowed me to view the prong using their microscope. They explained to me the steps they could take towards the repair and outlined the costs. They are incredibly knowledgeable about all things jewelry and were happy to explain it to me. They had the same excellent hospitality when I returned to pick up my repaired ring and custom band. Took my wedding ring in because the prongs were wearing away and I needed to get it fixed. Price was so much less expensive then some other jewelers I had gone to to price this repair. When I went to pick up my ring, I almost started crying. It was gorgeous!! The new head was done perfectly and the polishing and cleaning of my ring made it sparkle to the point of causing blindness!! By far one of the best jewelers I visited while looking for wedding bands with my beau. The owner is the jewelry maker and is the sales staff. We went in on a whim, and though the selection isn't Jared's or Helzberg, there are some very high quality, original rings here. In the end we bought our bands here. It was the outgoing personality of the owner, she had no problem with us trying on rings for fun, encouraged it without the sales pitch.
