The love for this project is evident in the nice little touches and in the interesting landscaping between the main play area and the adult fitness equipment. Logs to chase each other around, cement toadstools to sit on and chat, interesting aspects, make this a magic area that is definitely not your standard cookie-cutter playground fare. Everyone is catered for with a Variety Club swing for those who use wheelchairs. The setup is quite good with ample parking at the front and a secure child-proof fence to keep the kiddiwinks locked in and safe. There is a rotunda and BBQ facilities along with toilets. There is a toddler playpen fenced off with a cute picket fence and paved with fake grass. It is crying out for a sail to shade it, but if baby has a hat and sunscreen and plenty of toys I am sure mum and dad will feel secure looking after the older children or cooking the BBQ while keeping a weather eye out. This playground is still a work in progress. The landscaping is still to be completed, and the trees that are planted will provide wonderful shade for picnics once they are grown. We used the playground recently for my godson's 5th birthday party, and a good time was had by all.

Anyway, the beach did have a natural feel about it, even though it did happen to be located at the entrance to the harbour. Still, it was nice, and relaxing, particularly is the hordes of holiday goers have gone elsewhere.

This was rather interesting, and somewhat unexpected considering that you tend to expect to find…read moremost of the interesting coastal creations further to the east. Look, it can be a little confusion, considering there are a couple of structures that could be the archway, so I was a little confused. However, it was nice wandering around here, and it certainly does offer some rather lovely views. Further, it is nowhere near as touristy as some of the other places along the coast.

This walk has the beginnings of something wonderful for Robe. You can enter it via either end of…read morethe Marina (aka Lake Butler), and you walk along the edge of the water along a trail and a raised boardwalk to the other side. Along the way you will see some great views of Robe from angles that you wouldn't normally see. There are interesting critters scurrying around below in the water and at the Karatta Road end (the western one) it was fun to look under the rocks for crabs. The problem is that it is too short. What would be wonderful is if it was linked to an organised trail from the beginning of Robe around all the various lakes through town and out the other side along all the fantastic little beaches and nooks along the shoreline. My understanding is that this is just the beginning, so watch this space :)

Right near the golf club, this skate park is a godsend when in Robe and you have energetic children…read moreor teenagers that need to burn off some energy. I am a real fan because it is another thing for the young to do when in Robe, it is outdoors, and it is exercise. There isn't much to it really, an area to skate in, and a few rises etc. But there is real character with some spray art and some thoughtful design to the ancillary park furniture. It has certainly got me out of a jam when I am with my god sons and they have gotten cabin fever!

However, this is one of those places that the people of South Australia love to flock to to have a look around, and spend a couple of weeks holidays. It found that the coast is actually surprisingly nice, and it isn't anywhere near as packed with tourists as some of the other parts of the southern coast. In fact, it is quite a lovely place to spend some time.

Nestled back against the cliff face is the clubroom. I have been here on many occasions for functions, and each time you are treated to magnificent views of Guichen Bay and Long Beach in the distance, which can be enjoyed from the private beachfront, the balcony, or from within through the huge glass facade. The secluded location makes you feel like you are the only ones savouring the view, and this also makes it perfect for hosting loud events such as birthday parties, engagements and the like. Hire of the clubrooms is at a reasonable rate, and the facilities include loos, a spacious indoor dining area, a kitchen and a balcony from which to admire that fantastic view... it is all about the view.
