Unfortunately, that was my experience in Paris. Now, I will say, it's still Brewdog--the beers are great and so were the staff. But there were literally only two vegan options on the menu, and I went there on their meatless Monday! On that day, it was BOGO for plant-based fare, but with there being so few options my partner and just ended up getting two pizzas. To add fuel the flame, the pizza (the Rocket pizza) was heavy on mushrooms, which aren't really my thing. So 5 stars for the beer, but 3 stars for the food (which in our case that night, was important.)

Contemporary music playing overhead. We ordered pizza and beer. Pizza crust is addictive, toppings were flavorful. I had their stout, and it was smooooooth! Wife got a guest beer, a hazy IPA that was a little different in a good way. A great experience! About stars: 3 stars means really good. 4 stars is more for fine dining, generally pricier venues. If I get 4 star food at a brew pub, they'll get 4 stars. But 3 stars here is excellent.

Tight stock yet wide beer selection Knowledgeable owner…read moreGuillaume Thoroughly enjoyable to encounter Suave through and through, this joint is the selection you're looking for at the prices you'll appreciate on the beers you're seeking to enjoy in the neighborhood you'll like to stroll. Quadruple-check? YES. Guillaume opened roughly three months ago and is stocking some strong brews from a variety of worldly spots, each curated carefully and lovingly. He can talk them all up and help you cross-tabulate your preferred selections to others that might be recommended if you like them. French, British, and US are most heavily represented, but they aren't all from those locales. The various shelves have fresh offerings reaching further afield in countries, and representing widely in styles, as well. I walked out with Mikeller Coffee IPA, Belzebuth (13% ABV), Lindemans Peche (2.5% confection for my wife's enjoyment), Sainte Cru White Rabbit (French beer originating 'in a garage'), and Ernestine IPA (a grapefruit-y, hoppy centerpiece from Paris' only city brewery, Brasserie de la Goutte D'Or) on my first trip. Palate, meet dazzled. Tres magniFIQUE. A short stroll from Bastille and Place du Vosges, even those with a passing interest in craft beer should tally this as a necessary stop, if even just to soak up the atmosphere...which honors Paris, craft brews, and smooth music equally. By any and all means, locals and those passing aimlessly by should support to the fullest. This is a new and emerging offering we need to continue to throw our business toward. Support the 'Stache! Much respect from Providence, USA.

Germany was playing Scotland in a European qualifier and they started packing the place a few minutes before their game started and my teams were not faring too well so I decided to give up my prime seating for other more devoted fans. The games are all pre-selected by management so don't bother asking to change the channel after the sign goes up in the window! Maybe asking a week in advance would help? They put on the sound from the soccer game so that is at least a possibility. All in all, it is a comfortable place to watch the game and have a pint (6.5 - 8 euro depending on what you have). And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the bartender. I didn't catch his name but he was extremely friendly and helpful.

The concept is interesting--especially the use of umami, herbs, and French spirits like armagnac and calvados in creative cocktail builds--and the menu looks incredibly tempting. However, in execution, while the idea of layering savory umami notes with herbs and French spirits is clever, the drinks didn't quite come together in a way that felt balanced or as refined as expected from a bar of this reputation. That said, the bartender was excellent and very accommodating. When we weren't fully happy with a drink, they proactively offered to change it, which was a really nice touch and showed great hospitality. The overall atmosphere is fantastic--intimate, stylish, and lively in a way that makes it a great place to spend an evening even if the drinks fall short. Overall, it feels a bit overhyped. There are definitely better cocktail bars in Paris in terms of drink quality, even if this one wins on concept, creativity, and ambience.

I knew I wouldn't be able to make it until my usual bedtime of midnight-ish (that's a liberal ish), but 9pm seemed reasonable. It was a chilly fall night and a pint of Guinness or two sounded like the ideal nightcap, err, sleep inducer. A quick search on my Yelp app and a brisk 10-minute walk later, I arrived at The Quiet Man. Like most bars in Paris, the Quiet Man is tiny... especially tiny, even. However, the diminutive size was far less intimidating than walking into a bar filled with loud, jovial men and only one stool to be snagged. I never took my eyes off it while waiting for my perfectly-poured Guinness and stealthily made my way over before pouncing: all mine! Over the next 2 hours, I 'met' the guys next to me several times (close proximity is a powerful instigator of friendship), pretended like I understood everyone's Fast french while nodding and smiling, was gifted a Guinness from one of my elbow-mates, and embarked on a deep and lengthy political conversation in English with a 60-ish Frenchman who had previously lived in London and Dublin (sidenote: this convo took place right before the U.S. presidential election and everyone and their far-removed cousin expressed interest in hearing my opinion). A couple of Guinness later, I was sufficiently spent. And this cool unassuming dive, like its friendly patrons, won't be soon forgotten. PS: There's nothing quiet about the Quiet Man ;)
