Many moons ago, in 1995, we were caught off-guard on Christmas Day in Christchurch when everything was about to close. After being ably helped with our wine selection by Liquorland, we asked where we could find a good Christmas lunch. The answer was: nowhere - everything will be closed. But the friendly manager and staff agreed we should accompany them to their private Christmas Party which had fabulous food and wine pairings as a store promotion at a gourmet restaurant.
I just love those New Zealand Chardonnays, and the Liquorland crew of course knew the right wine pairings for the different delicious foods!
One of the great moments of NZ hospitality and thank you Christchurch Liquorland. Very friendly people then, and I bet they still have a friendly bunch now. I've generally found Kiwis to be very nice, except of course the All Blacks rugby team players who will grind you into the dirt if you let them. read more
