You can visit the grounds (865 acres) for free, so my review is limited to that experience. For a fee you can visit the Mount Edgcumbe House and Earl's Garden. There is no garden like an English garden. This one was absolutely lovely since there were so many different and distinct areas as you rambled through the large estate. The manicured Italian and French Gardens led to the more rambling American Garden with a geyser in the middle. But really the most interesting for my son were the battery, with cannons, pointing out over the river. There is a Block House nearby that helps a child imagine defending the estate against all intruders.

One of the nicest places for a walk in the area with some great views. It's worth seeing the…read moreinteresting buildings within the park including the 18th century Folly, the Doric Thomson's Seat and the circular Milton's Temple. There are some lovely woodland trails to follow, many of which are suitable for everyone including wheelchair users. After this, we enjoyed the gardens upper/lower. Well laid out. The car park is approx 15-20 minute walk, mostly downhill, which means you've got an uphill struggle to get back. There is a "mini" taxi type service costing £1 per head each way, (well worth it), to the House. Car park charge to non-members is £3.00 all day, which is pretty good. The house is in good repair, and the history is very well recorded. Beware the Cafe.......as with most NT establishments it is franchised, extortionate and not good value for money....especially for eating and drinking in a shed...!! That aside, you will have a lovely day...

A wonderful, but slightly strenuous, walk for 2-3 hours. I advise starting from just beyond the…read morecastle which then gets your legs warmed up as you reach the waterfall. Sit there for a while and take in its magnificence. You should be now ready for the more difficult part of the walk but enjoy all there is around you. Some parts can be challenging for we oldies but well worth the effort. This takes you to the Devils Cauldron. A walk uphill afterwards to the delightful tea rooms for the obligatory drink. No, not obligatory, you will need it. The National trust has spent time and money making this, I feel, one of their better places to visit. Natural beauty at its best.

A few hundred years ago an outlaw family called the Gubbins were active here. Robbery, kidnapping…read moreand assault were their calling cards. Walk through here and you can imagine how they evaded capture for a long time. Nowadays their role has been usurped by the National Trust, only it's all legal. It's a beautiful gorge, not big but the sudden deepenings and plunges makes it cute and fun, but the charges are exorbitant just for a walk. The Gubbins clan must be looking down in awe from their new venture in the heavens.

It is about twenty minutes from the Torpoint Ferry, this links Plymouth with Cornwall. You will need to have a car, and the roads are very narrow and winding to get there, so be prepared! It is hars to explain how to get there, but stick on the main road and follow the signs for Whitsand Bay, then signs for Rame Head. You will pass a church and then a small row of houses, then you follow the narrow lane and get to a large car park. You can park there for free which is good, and then you can walk down and then back up to the ancient church that is on top of the cliff. It is spectacular the amazing views out over the sea, and you will be in ore with the beauty of this place! A little hard to find, ask someone for directions in Cornwall as this is probably best. On a really good day this place will truly take your breathe away! Also a really nice place to see the sun set.

This serves to gridlock locals in Saltash as selfish travellers seek a (not at all) shortcut through so residents along such routes have to put up with the constant noise, pollution as well as inability to get access to own homes. But who cares eh tamar crossings? As long as your profit keep rising the locals can keep suffering.

A lovely library, not the biggest but well stocked!…read more Fantastic for kis as they have a specified area for kids books and dvds including child sized table and chairs and some kids toys too. They also do different reading and play events for kids each month to keep them entertained! The best part about this library I find is that I can browse my books whilst leaving the kids to look at theirs, as the kids section is away from the door and we all get what we want that way!

The car park is of a fair size, but would fill up quickly on a busy day. Adjacent to the car park is a shop and an area selling plants. The shop sells the usual gifts and paintings, but also serves as the location to buy tickets for the house and gardens. Be aware though, they don't take credit cards. The gardens are stunning, very well landscaped and looked after, and complement the impressive Pencarrow House - a perfect place for taking pictures. There are actually over 50 acres of garden, which include Italian and American gardens, however, we didn't get very far into them because of the unpredictable english weather. Guided tours take you around Pencarrow House, which take place every half an hour. For us this really brought the house to life, the guide was knowledgable about the furniture, paintings etc, adding in fascinating anecdotal stories in each room of the house. The house is still lived in to this day, and has recently recieved the license to conduct weddings ceremonies and receptions. Alongside Pencarrow House is the Peacock Cafe, appropriately named as peacocks and chickens roam free range through the area of outside seating in the courtyard surrounding the cafe. The cafe has a compact menu of dishes like salads, sandwiches and cake. All very tasty, but a little expensive for the size of the portions. But the cafe's setting more than makes up for it though. Pencarrow is a hidden gem in Cornwall and one we thoroughly enjoyed.

It really is something that Plymouth is known for, and I really quite like it, except when young people put washing up liquid in it so it gets all bubbly, that is really annoying! I think it is good because the landmark is known to people even if they don't live in plymouth. It, for some reason, makes you feel really relaxed being around it, and it just feels nice being there.
