After an exasperating journey getting to Dublin, Listons welcomed me with its warm Irish charms and made me forget the day's earlier trials. In the same vein as my other beloved Dublin food hall, Fallon & Byrne, Listons has a wide selection of charcuterie, cheese, nuts, pastas, tea, chocolates and wine. I chose a tomato basil soup and a tuna, cheddar and sundried tomato panini for lunch and ate it picnic style back in my hotel room. The sandwich was absolutely glorious. I had the blues the other day. I'm not ashamed to admit it, everyone gets the blues every once and awhile. You know it will pass as quickly as it comes. I was at the blues stage were seeing an old woman being over taken by power walking younger folks whilst they listened to their i-pods lost in themselves and their outward image made me really sad. It actually brought a frog to my throat & made me slightly teary - yes it did. I started thinking about how impersonal people these days can be; yup I was in a rut. Because I have no friends I could not dial for a hug, and because hugging yourself is a rather futile action I decided to lift my melancholy with some tea. I got some mint infused tea, to give me more of a spring in my step. And to really treat myself I got the orange and coconut combination which is as delicious as it sounds. This part of Dublin is nothing if not varied. From the packed pubs and clubs of Wexford street to further up the road where fruit and veg stalls rub shoulders with Halal butchers. Listons is situated along this part of Lower Camden Street. As well as a being an aladins cave of what would be popularly be known as luxury foods. Listons does takeaway and really good pre-made foods. This is no overly fancy fallon and byrne, donnybrook fair type deli. Listons has been on the go quite a while and stocks a huge range of specialist foods and treats. The deli down the back of the main shop does great sambos, wraps and salads, the soup is really good too. Theres loads of Green and Blacks up the front, a great selection of breads and cheese in the deli in the second shopfront. I think that Liston's is popular with a lot of people for their deli and lunch takeaway items, and rightly so because they do these RIGHT. Sandwiches, soups, rolls and more are all made with high quality ingredients by a really friendly staff. You're not going to be worried about what kind of mysterious chemicals you're ingesting your food and instead you'll just be thinking "mmmm!" But Liston's is so much more than a deli. It is quite veritably a foodie's dream come true. Particularly if this foodie likes to cook with unusual and harder-to-find ingredients. Liston's is a gourmet food market as lovely as any I've seen and they carry a fantastic array of items - particularly tempting are their olive bar and cheese counter, where you can get all kinds of glorious, cheesy goodies. They also sell an impressive selection of vegetarian foods, from faux-meat sausage to tofu, though the latter is better bought at an Asian market at the fraction of the cost. They also sell soy ice cream, which is incredibly delicious, and which I haven't seen ANYWHERE else in Dublin. Score! read more

Just the best little gourmet foodie shop with solid lunch options for takeaway. I love their salad bar - it's among the most varied in the area (tied with the Cracket Nut) and they do such a good job of keeping it interesting. Today I grabbed some salads, and one was topped with pomegranate seeds while the other was roasted cauliflower and halloumi cheese. Just yum. It got all the salads and a soup for €6, very reasonable. If you're looking for a grocery I'd say it's more like a specialty food isle converted into an entire shop, meaning it can be pricey fast, but they do have a good selection. They have an incredible selection of oft overlooked items like teas, spices, etc so it's fun to get lost just staring at the items. What, am I the only one who does that?! They even have a separate wing of the shop that seems to only have Italian pastas and whatnot. The staff is nice and helpful to boot. Solid 5 star experience. read more

I was up Christmas Creek without a paddle. I needed an impressive gift at short notice. Think Cristin, think!! Listons, they do fancy food and wine.... they'll do hampers... And they did. They put together an excellent hamper for me at short notice. I ordered it at lunchtime and they had it ready by 6pm. I don't know why but I don't go here more! Freshly made sandwich with high quality meats and very reasonable prices. They have their own selection of sandwiches which are all freshly made. They offer salad and soups as well. The atmosphere reminds me of a country farm shop. They have wine and fresh cheeses as well as a selection of sweets which you don't find in your typical shops anymore. Lunch time during the week will have a line but it moves pretty quickly. For a drink and sandwich you shouldn't spend more than 6 euro! read more

As the prompter says, as good as it gets. You'll invariably find a queue in here any day between 12 and 2pm - it's one of a (happily) growing number of healthy food options around the Camden St area. You can grab a killer sambo, filling salad, fresh produce, juices, or packaged health food. It's all laid out wonderfully and I often personally find it difficult to walk past the myriad of gorgeously presented stuff to just grab my lunch! This is the only downfall though as the queue is managed quickly and efficiently with lots of staff working, the food is really great value and excellent quality. What more could ya want? read more

I used to avoid Listons because I was certain that it was grossly overpriced. But then I actually did some price-checking the other day and realized that most items I needed were pennies away from Fresh, and sometimes cheaper. (Not much of a bar, I know but the options in the area are limited.) So go on and shop at Listons guilt-free. Perfect place to pick up imported tomatoes and dried pastas that are much nicer than what you'll get at the other shops. The owner recently printed out a Wikipedia page for me when I didn't know the difference between muscovado and demerara sugar. I see this less as evidence of how stupid I am but more as proof of how nice Listons is. read more

I shop in Listons quite frequently as they have lovely fresh bread, olives, deli and a variety of the finer things in life one could consider treats; wine, chocolate, cheese, nom. They stock a great selection of pantry goods, Italian pasta in an amazing variety of shapes and sizes and a nice little frozen food section. The stock I would not quibble with as it is varied, fresh, well curated and although on the pricier side compared to some of the middle eastern markets in the area, it's good stuff. They are a great addition to Camden St, and I love to support independent local businesses, so it really pains me to not give a higher rating but here is why I will not. Customer Service. I would say that on over 90% of the occasions I have been in over the past two years while living in the area, certain staff have been on appearances grumpy or stressed to the point of unfriendliness. If you ask a question, it feels as if you are bothering them. I have lost count of the number of times I have stood waiting to pay with no one manning the till, and then encountered a situation where it felt like they were doing me a favor by taking my money. Sadly, I don't expect a hello or small talk or even a smile which is a real shame as simple things like that are a joy of life, and when you are paying a premium for high quality products it is those simple things which will make people regular, loyal customers. I have put off reviewing Listons for a while now, as I had hoped it was just me (maybe I just have a face that elicits such a response!), or that I caught the staff at bad times, but recently a number of friends have also commented on this and so I feel it needs outing. Liston's is a great deli and sandwich shop. It offers a wide range of quality foods ( no baked beans here ) and during lunchtime they manage to serve a lot of people in a short period of time because this place is busy. Sandwiches are varied with bread and fillings, the cost is also reasonable with sandwiches costing around 4.25 euro. They also do a guacamole which although expensive is delicious. One minor problem which is why I have only put 4 stars down is that sometimes they can over power the sandwiches with relishes. When ordering I would always say not to much mustard or relish. Unless you really like having the sandwich overpowered that way. Favourite sandwich is the Dubliner, a cheese and ham sandwich. You can tell how good this place is by the queue at lunchtime, but don't let it put you off as they rattle through the customers. read more

Excellent selection of organic/fair trade teas! The full range of Clipper teas (which I really love) chai and various blends. Lots of canned goods and some spices, wine, dry goods like pasta and crackers etc. A refrigerated section with some meat, lots of cheeses, and a buffet with some salads etc. that make the shop packed at lunch time (must be good!) Just a little bit of produce at the entrance, but fresh and great quality (picked up some carrots and sweet potatoes). Definitely more of a specialty shop, it's not the cheapest place but for some hard to find ingredients it's great. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Liston's has a particularly extensive range of Loire Valley red wines. I know this not because I know a lot about wine, but because I visited the Loire Valley earlier this year so every time I go into a wine shop now I'm on the label hunt... Apart from the wines they also sell a wide range of herbal teas, organic foodstuffs, soy ice cream and even tofu! Quite a mix here. The paninis aren't badly priced at all, and they have some yummy serving suggestions (although you are able to design your own sandwich!) Look out for the red and white babooshka-patterned wine bottle bag - it's uber cute! read more

What a great find!! Awesome selection of artisan cheeses, deli, chocolates, teas, and other oddities! Cheese man was extra knowledgeable, and helped us pick out a few cheeses that would last outside a refrigerator while we were traveling. Considering how Listons is known for it's high quality gourmet food, I still cannot get over what good value their deli counter is!! I just wolfed down a delicious salad box stuffed with goodness for a squeeky-clean €4, and the other day I got a yum spinach and feta roll for *€1.50*!! A few of my more excitable friends had been raving on about Listons for some time, so a while ago I decided to sample Listons' purported delights for myself. When harping on about Listons, my friends had made particular reference to the quality of Listons sandwich fillings: that a plain old ham and cheese was really good at Liston's, that for the same amount of money that you would spend at another sandwich shop, you could get a (slightly smaller) roll for the same price, but one of infinitely superior quality. When I got my roll, it was perfectly fine. Maybe a little bready (the filling to bread ratio was a teeny bit off, but nothing major), but essentially a tasty roll. The point that I'm trying to make is that the roll was fine, but I couldn't see what all the fuss was about. On the journey between DIT Aungier St and Listons we passed a number of sandwich shops, and I for one don't see why a trek all the way to Listons is necessary. But if you're in the vicinity, yeah, they give quite good roll. One thing, though: one of the girls was getting a panini, and I don't know what they use to cook the things, but it took forever, and now I mention it, there did seem to be quite a queue of people waiting for things to get toasted. So, don't get anything toasted there if you have somewhere else to be. Apart from being a sandwich shop, Listons also sells health/speciality/fancy foods, which wouldn't interest me a great deal but I suppose it's nice to have the option. read more

Listons is my favourite lunch spot. It's the nicest salad box that I can find on Camden Street. Yes, it is a little expensive but it tastes so nice. I like that they give you your salad in the chinese-take-away-ish boxes and how friendly the staff are (they're never in a bad mood). They have some of the nicest sausage rolls I've ever tasted and they do gorgeous fresh quiches and lovely soups. The only problem is that while I'm queuing up to pay for my healthy lunch, I'm also looking all around me at the fancy chocolates, the yummy flapjacks, the special biscuits, bottles of wine, organic yogurts and hand-cut crisps to see what else I can buy. I have to give Liston's a big pat on the back for the best take-away Chili con Carne I've come across in Dublin. If you want to make your tummy happy, grab a pack of the perfectly spiced stew and heat it up in the oven. Tastes like a home cooked meal without all the mess in the kitchen. Brilliant! If I could, I would come here everyday for their sandwiches, soup, and fresh deli food! I've tried ~5 sandwiches and loved each one! The soups are always good as well. The salads and other things in the deli section are amazing too... Getting hungry just thinking about it! For the summer, they also prepare picnic baskets for you. I have no doubt it's amazing as well. Wine selection is good and not too expensive. I have yet to try the grocery store part of Liston's, but I bet I wouldn't be disappointed. The only negative is they start running out of options a little after 1pm. So you need to make sure you aren't looking for too late of a lunch. Ah ! That's my newest good discovery... I know, how come I didn't know about it before ? When i entered, there certainly was plenty of people who knew about the place already ! The queues can be intimidating but the service is so impressive, they are ready for all these hungry gourmet seekers that arrive at the same time everyday ! Any choice you go for will certainly be tasty and healthy, from sandwiches (4 or 5 different bread choice !!!) to the custom made salads (choose as many toppings you want, it's the weight that matters !). Pricewise, it's quite decent, around 4-5 euros for the average salad or sandwich. Oh oh oh did I say the 2 people who served me were super nice ? and relaxed ? I wonder what sick, twisted, evil mind designed and stocked Listons? Whoever they were, they definitely seemed intent on foiling my diet. The food is just so tempting. There are two entrances and both are dangerous. The larger door brings you past nuts, chocolate covered raisins, teas, loads of chocolate...followed by fridges with panninis, yoghurts and deli items etc. Wander around the corner and you'll see what would have greeted you through the smaller door. Delicious cheeses, frozen meals, every type of sauce you could possibly want (I had to put my hands in my pockets to stop myself from buying a few-my cupboard is full and I rarely actually cook anything exciting. I just think about it). Plenty of vinegars and oils stock the shelves...many more reasonable than Fallon & Byrne. Don't look at the counter near the cash register on this side! Huge bowls of olives and massive glass jars with pick and mix chocolate buttons and drops as well as dried fruit. Who could possibly resist? A brown paper bag of them is in my cupboard right now. But not for long... It gets worse. Go to pay and you realise that the girl behind the register is really friendly, agrees that everything is delicious...and tells you that she looked for a job there because she liked shopping there. I love Listons and have done for years. Like it says on the sign, it's the source of good food! They do an excellent deli down the back but if you plan to get something there at lunchtime be prepared to queue. There's generally a really long one around 1pm, which just goes to show how good the food is. I've gotten a seafood salad there a few times and it was always absolutely scrumptious. Quite expensive but scrumptious. They also do a fabulous selection of meats, cheeses and wines, along with stuff like sesame sticks, bombay mix and all kinds of nuts. There is a huge selection of everything such as Irish and international cheeses, freshly prepared meals, artisan breads, wines, gourmet sandwiches, olives, cured meats and much more. The lunchtime sandwiches deserve a special mention as the selection is huge and mouthwatering too. I discovered Listons while visiting a nearby business as I discovered that they do catering also - I ordered five trays of sandwiches for a meeting nearby and everybody loved it. Did a small shop here last week for a dinner I was cooking. This spot is great for speciality and organic / free from etc. items. I haven't been here at lunch time yet so can't comment on the price/taste but the spread looks great. Service was kind of hit and miss on the couple of occasions Ive dropped in there. On the most recent occasion I had the shop to myself but wasn't greeted by any of the three staff on duty. Eventually I went out of my way to say hello and they said hi back but there wasn't an outpouring of assistance as I would expect in a gourmet food store of this apparent calibre. I found the lady at the cashier counter especially blunt with lots of more important things to do than serve me. Unfortunately I didn't leave with that great feeling you often get in a store like this which can justify the the high prices.
