We booked online on Open Table while in Lancaster. We had a Monday 5:45pm reservation. To guarantee a table you must book on Open Table. They have a huge white tent up on the patio facing the square complete with fans & string lights. You must wear a mask to enter & exit and to go into the bathroom. Tables are well spaced at 6+ feet apart. Most are tables for 4. Host was very friendly & sat us right away. Host station is also outdoors under tent. You can go next door to Bull's Head Tavern, but it's first come first served seating & unlike prior to COVID, now you MUST see the hostess to get a table if available. Reservations online are for General Sutter patio only. Menu is limited & same on both sides. All servers wear masks & gloves. There were only 2 of us but we had a table for 4 so plenty of room. They sanitize tables I'm between customers. It was a lovely summer evening. You can scan their QR code at the hostess stand and view menu on your phone. This is the preferred method ordering. Disposable paper menus are available upon request but they prefer you use your phone. We shared a Caesar salad, the large is huge. Enough for 3! Anchovies too, the real deal. It was very good. In fact had I known it was that good I would have added chicken or shrimp to it & just had that. I had the Bulls Head prime burger medium with fries. My husband had double fish & chips, which is only $2 more than single order. Two massive pieces of fried fish. All condiments are in packages or small containers, no bottles. My burger was good, but slightly over medium. Fries were fresh cut, hot and good. He said the fish was very good, couldn't finish it all. I had Old Speckled Hen, which is a hard to find British ale in a nitro can. He had Miller Lite. They do have a selection of great taps too. I recommend this for outdoor dining with social distancing. And the staff Rolling Stones makes were the bomb! So glad they are open again. read more

It's an Inn and a bar. I should be reviewing both, but because I suck at pulling the trigger on hotel reservations, it sold out so I can only review the bar. Which was great. Especially if you're beer snob. It's an old English style pub, replete with lots of wood paneling and tons of beers on tap. And reminders that English style pubs don't have table service, guvnuh. The friendly bartender let me taste a few beers on tap before committing to one, which my receipt indicates was "food of the gods." Not sure which style this was... I had a couple snobby beers, and at least one was a great coffee porter. One other nice thing about this place is that they let you order half sizes without much of a price premium. This is great when you're at a bar with 20 plus taps and want to try a bunch. Not sure when I'd be in Lititz again, but I'd make this my first stop for beer snobbery. read more

We picked this restaurant on recommendation from my daughter. My wife had a salad which was good. I started with a cup of tomato bisque. Creamy, hot and very tasty. I ordered the Chicken Tikki Massla which was flavorful with the right amount of heat, but there were only four tiny pieces of chicken in the dish with rice. Surprising to find no plant-based things on the menu, but there is a vegan on staff who gave us great recommendations: an ALT (avocado-lettuce-tomato) and roasted brussels sprouts with sunflower seeds and slivered almonds. Both of these should be on the menu. Nice wine list, elegant place, very warm and gracious service. We felt like pains asking for special things. We we're really excited when my fiancé found this online so we came tonight for dinner and drinks. Our server was Lori B. The only way I know her name is from the receipt as she never introduced herself. My fiancé ordered a Pumpkin Spice Espresso Martini, the server took up our appetizer plates as we didn't order any. She touched our silverware in the process of doing this then proceeded to give the plate, that we had already touched, to the table next to us so that they could share our dessert. After several minutes she brought my fiancé a Moscow Mule... I flagged the server down and told her "this is a mule not a martini" to which her response was "I know" as she took it and walked off. About 10 mins later she comes back and asks my fiancé what she had ordered and then played it off by asking if she wanted gravy on her turkey or on the side. 40 minutes later she comes over and tells us "your food will be out any minute I've messaged the manager 3 times"... I let her know that we had to be somewhere and if the food wasn't close to being ready then we would just take our check. As she walks off she says "I didn't know you were in a time crunch"... Then her manager brings us our check, doesn't ask us about what was wrong, doesn't attempt to comp anything. Just tells us that our server asked her to bring us our check. Stayed one night at this fabulous Inn. We booked it because of the other great reviews we saw on numerous websites. We were not disappointed. It was spotless. We stayed on the 3rd floor in one of the rock block rooms. The whole floor has a music theme going on. We also had our own kitchen, laundry room and outside deck to share with the other occupants of the floor. It is located smack in the middle of Lititz business district. Walking distance to plenty of shops and restaurants. Exactly what we were looking for! read more

I'm not sure who designed the new patio dining are, but the only good thing about it is the bar. The sails provide no shade!! Customers were moving tables all the time to get out of it. Tonight the service was pub style which I don't mind, but I never got my soup and my husband never got chips with his sandwich because supposedly it wasn't "entered" correctly by the bartender. The sandwiches we got were "okay" but nothing special to warrant the price. This is the second time since it reopened I've been here and it will be awhile before I'm back. Sorry you spent all of that money on an outdoor dining disaster. Just get some patio umbrellas instead!!!! read more

***update*** since the below experience we have been back many times. The management team contacted me personally after the bad experience and made us feel valued as customers. Kudos to them. Happy to see good customer experiences matter! We got here at 755pm with no wait, party of three to sit on the patio. Seated right away which is fantastic. We then sat there for over 15 minutes as servers passed by us busily. Nobody stopped to take our drink order or even acknowledge our presence. Around the 20 minute mark another party of six came in and sat right down at the table next to ours and were engaged by a server in less than 5 minutes. Really???? We go to the hostess who seated us and made her aware as we were LEAVING the establishment after such horrendous service. Her reply you ask, "I'm sorry. Where were you sitting?" Wow that is pretty bad, I could understand if they were crazy busy but they were not. We come here a lot and never had a bad experience. This was just disrespectful to a paying customer who regularly travels over 30 minutes to your eatery. I hope you all get your act together. read more

I live closer to Philly, but my sister and her husband moved to Lititz a few years ago. We have been to the General Sutter many times for drinks or dinner. This past weekend, we held a baby shower there for my sister. We cannot say enough good things about Jeff, Johanna, and the whole staff. The food was excellent, the atmosphere perfect for our party, and the service was exceptional. Jeff treated our event as if it was for his own family and friends. I grew up 7 minutes from this place and have been here on several occasions. When it comes to planning an event such as a family Christmas dinner or a Bridal Shower, my mother will often choose the General Sutter. We have found ourselves here to celebrate birthday's and other occasions as well. Most recently, we had a family Christmas dinner here and had our own private room to commune in. Make sure to bring your wallet when you come here as this side of the restaurant can be a bit pricey. However, I have found the quality of the food to be pretty good. I decided on the Fall Harvest Salad - this included mixed greens, butternut squash, cauliflower, roasted carrots, brussel sprouts, pumpkin seeds, and candied pecans served with a creamy poppyseed dressing. I added chicken to mine (an upcharge) which was a wonderful addition. Needless to say, I would not think of putting half of those ingredients on a salad but it really worked! You have the option to order a half or a full salad which was nice. The only thing I would have changed was asked for the dressing on the side as I took half of the salad home with me. My mom ordered the Beet Trio Salad and was very pleased with her selection as well. Our waitress was very patient with our group as we had a few younger children and had some drink spills throughout the afternoon. She was attentive, quick to refill drinks, and was in to check on us often. I have been to The Sutter during the summertime when the outdoor patio is open. It is a wonderful outdoor dining experience as you observe the bustle of the local Lititz crowd. I know this will not be my last experience here, however I am sure it'll be for special occasions only. Took a friend here on a mock date night. The ambiance was very quaint and somewhat romantic, but other than that I really don't have much to account. The service was very professional and well attentive, and the food was alright though a little pricy. There was supposed to be live music the night we went, but the band was running late so we listened to a boom box placed on a bar stool. I think if I ever decide to go again I will attend for lunch and sit outside. Food was good but our waitress was so obnoxious that I won't bother going again. Table for 9, and there were 2 other large groups as well. However our table was the first seated. She could not be bothered for anything. Not enough water glasses, silverware, or even chairs (and we made reservations!) . Never spoke to us again after taking order. Between arrival and taking orders, I can't tell you how many times she barked at each us. Suddenly shows up with individual bills and decides to be friendly and polite - just in time for us to add tip. My bill was $17.09. I left $18 cash. Would have left exact change with no tip at all if I had any coins. My kids have been waiters, and because of that, I usually tip 50-100%. No matter the service. Do people sometimes have a bad day? Had a lovely girl's weekend in Lititz this past weekend. The General Sutter Inn served as our home from Friday night through Sunday afternoon. It was my first time visiting Lititz and staying in a real "Inn". It was a very special experience. I enjoyed the historical aspects and loved the adjoining Bulls Head Pub. I found the lobby to be very inviting with the fireplace and comfortable seating. There was limited parking out back, but had a well lit path that led to the front entrance. It was really awkward and difficult wheeling suitcases through the large Friday night Pub crowd that gathered on the sidewalk. If possible arrive early to check-in and make sure you don't over-pack there is no elevator and a lot of stairs. My mother, Aunt, and I stayed in two rooms on the Rock Lititz Penthouse floor. It was a really cool modern rock themed floor. It was very private and even had it's own key just to enter. There was a shared kitchen with complimentary drinks and bagels. My mother and I stayed in the Down Stage room (306) because of the separate day bed. My only complaint was the "day bed" (while fitting the decor) was like sleeping on a rock. My Aunt stayed in the Stage Left room (310), it was very cool and had windows with views of the town. As cool as the rock themed Penthouse was an explanation is needed. Why the rock theme in this historic Inn? I'm still left wondering. The General Sutter is the perfect place to stay if you're visiting Lititz. It provided a comfortable oasis right in the center of town. I loved how easy it was to walk to all the restaurants and shops. If I return to Lititz, which I hope to do, this is where I'd chose to stay. UPDATE: I was contacted by management of the General Sutter shortly after posting this review. High expectations not meet. Made a reservation for two at a high top table. Didn't realize that meant bar area only. Bar is small and was very crowded. We were so close to the table next to us that I thought we were part of their party. We got jostled every time someone would step away from their table. An event in another area meant heavy traffic back and forth to the bar, all past our table. The menus are multiple pages clipped to a clipboard. To flip the pages meant that the page was over top of a candle which led to a scorched menu. We ate here previously during the summer and on the patio and had a much better experience. I've been here a few times for business lunches. The food has always been very good, bur the service has usually been pretty slow, even with a small number of people dining. It's not enough to make me decide to go elsewhere, but it's something I'm always reminded of when I'm there, sitting and waiting. Out of the other options in Lititz (there aren't many), the food here is certainly some of the best, so it's not a huge deterrent... most times. If the waiting time was improved, I'd gladly grant more stars in my review. We stayed here this past weekend for the stay and play. They allowed us to check in early and the staff could not have been nicer. The room was super comfortable and quaint. We stayed on the 2nd floor to enjoy the deep bathtub. The mattress and bedding were amazing. The 4 course meal included was excellent. Service and quality was great. The ghost investigation was fun and informative. The guys with thru the veil we're exciting and knowledgeable. We had a great time and it was a perfect thing to do over a chilly Halloween weekend. The General Sutter Inn is a charming and historic pub and eatery. I loved that one side is a fine dining restaurant while the other is an authentic pub. Was not crazy over the appetizers: the curry sauce for the curry fries was good, but the serving was so tiny, and the scotch egg was simply a hard-boiled egg that had been breaded and fried. However, the meals made up for it. The Chicken-Leek and Fisherman's Pies were outstanding. Prices not bad either. Would definitely come back again. My rating is more of a 4.5 than a 4. read more

Happened upon Lititz on a drive from Pittsburgh to York. I knew we would have to stop for dinner so that morning I had called ahead for a reservation. Although I didn't stay at the hotel, I did experience the fantastic cuisine of the dining portion. It has a beautiful dining room with windows all around so you can see this adorable street. As soon as we walked in, we were seated and our waitress came right away. The staff was friendly and very attentive. I had the beet salad with pistachios to start. It was refreshing and the balance of the flavors was magnificent. They have a great wine selection, which I made my selection from, and my partner tried the whiskey flight and was also very pleased. My main dish was the filet mignon. It. was. amazing. I couldn't stop talking about it. It had this fantastic maple syrup type sauce that was expertly crusted around the steak. It was juicy on the inside and cooked to perfection. Never have I had such an urge to be the person to, "send my compliments to the chef." My partner had the lamb and given the fact that we both stopped talking through our meal and almost licked the plates clean, I think we both truly enjoyed ourselves. read more

Reviewing the restaurant. Quaint period building in a neat little town. Reasonable prices and for the most part good food. We had the baked Mac and cheese as an app. Good if not a little rich, but we enjoyed half of it. We both had steak frites and here is where it went wrong. They use a flank steak which we knew from the menu but still a little tough for the type of cut. My wife's fries (fritters) were hot. Mine were Luke warm to cold. Both of our steaks were served Luke warm at best. There is frankly no excuse for a place of this quality to maintain such poor temperature discipline. The experience our group had this weekend was not without a couple items worth mentioning. However the way the situation was handled by the staff truly was an excellent example of great customer service. We had reservations for seven of us. I understand that it's difficult to make sure that you don't overbook as well as not make the previous party feel like the table is needed for another group at a specific time. Since the previous group ordered another round of post-meal drinks, the hostess kindly informed us of the delay, which we were fine with. As additional time passed, it became evident to her that some alternate plan was needed. She asked if we'd be OK with a table in the ballroom but that there was a group performing music. Since it was pushing 30 minutes past our reservation and we were feeling a bit hungry, we agreed to the alternative. Without hesitation she offered to pick up the tab for our appetizers. (Thanks for your thoughtfulness!) As we situated ourselves it became evident the music would be too loud for us to carry on casual conversation. When we asked if we could be reseated elsewhere, again the staff exhibited an excellent attitude and apologized for the situation and worked quickly to get our original table cleared and reset. We never were made to feel as though anything we asked for was too much to accommodate and they checked back several times to make sure the rest of our evening went well. Dinner was excellent. Mrs Foodie and I both enjoyed the pork belly. The rest of our group enjoyed their entrees as well. The waitress was attentive to the proper degree-neither neglectful nor overly intrusive. To summarize: while the experience wasn't completely smooth, the excellent response of the staff showed that they understand what excellent customer service can do to help us to decide to dine with them again. read more

Stayed here for 2 weeks while training for work. Lots of good things to say including comfortable rooms, cool decor, convenient to have restaurants and bars in one place, and friendly staff. I would say that their housekeeping leaves something to be desired. They really just pull up the comforter and call it a day. I would have liked trash thrown away, fresh towels left, etc. Also, the kitchen on the top floor doesn't get stocked too often so all the baked good are stale. Definitely need some more attention to the food up there if you're going to stock anything at all. read more

I also tried their apple walnut spinach salad and that was awesome! A nice summer meal. The bread they serve is a tasty assortment with soft butter. (And warm) The location of the restaurant is in the center of the Lititz, which is a cute town. The restaurant itself is very old- 1700s and it also has rooms to reserve. (I have not stayed there.) GSI also has a nice patio with a small bar. Overall, I love the place and will be visiting again. And one of these days, I will get there for their breakfast too. read more

This past time we were there, we sat out on the patio, which is a much more casual setting. Inside can be a bit stuffy. The downside is that the patio is all first come first served. No reservations outside so you may get in, you may wait an hour. You never know. Inside you need reservations, so it's just kind of weird. I just got the crab cake sandwich and it was good. Worth trying. Overall nothing really making this place stand out too much, but the food is pretty good... and our waitress on the patio was great. Very attentive. read more
