If I could give them 3.5 stars I would. When Little Brick first opened, it was great, and while many of those bones still lay in the foundation of the business, I feel like the quality and genuine charm (outside of the actual cafe itself) has dipped some. I find the food now is good, but over priced. We paid $13 for a dill pickle egg salad sandwich that was tiny, mostly pickles or filler, incredibly dry, and not at all filling. The chocolate chip cookie I had was dry as well, and lacking much chocolate. I find their speciality coffees are hit or miss and the espresso is personally too bitter for me, and I would say overall QC is lacking in food quality and the over the years I can't really recall a single occasion where I've had outstanding service. Of course, much of Little Brick's draw is it's location and physical space, both of which are fantastic. With that said, it's really only ever a visit for convenience on my end. I want to love it more, but sometimes middle ground works. read more

Little Brick has been a longtime favourite since my university years for its cozy atmosphere, delicious drinks, and amazing brunch (I miss their brisket options!). There is ample street parking nearby, even on a busy weekend; however, you may need to wait for a table to open as this place is usually packed! I noticed they have some outdoor seating as well for warmer days. Service is always pleasant, friendly, and quick; at our most recent visit, the barista was very helpful in answering our menu questions. Sadly, I wasn't too impressed with the brunch options we got this time: the Brickyard and the Breakfast Sandwich. The fillings for the Brickyard were great - I mean, what can go wrong with apples, goat cheese, and ham. The problem was that the bun was so dry and stale, and there was no sauce to moisten the sandwich which ultimately resulted in bland and disappointing bites. The flavours in the Breakfast Sandwich was a lot better in my opinion, as they added the perfect amount of sauce to compliment the flavours of the filling. Obviously this experience doesn't write off the countless other positive experiences I've had at Little Brick. I'm looking forward to coming back, but would perhaps choose to order their other brunch options! read more

In a very interesting area - kind of in the middle of a residential area. No official parking so just street parking which always makes me feel guilty parking in front of someone's house. My mother drove from west Edmonton and had a hard time passing through all the construction but it was a pleasant 20min drive from my northside abode. Arrived at 11AM and there was a line-up out the door and inside looked 90% full. Luckily it moved fast and there was still indoor seating (limited) when we got to the front. By 12PM the place was only 70% full which was interesting. Cozy place with nice decor. Not too fancy more hipster. Gender neutral single person bathroom was clean. I really wanted to try the Vegan Hash but ended up with the Brunch Feature - Monster Hash. It was quite tart, the sweet potatoes were ice cold which was unappealing. The cabbage was 10/10 great flavor, only a couple chunks of the pastrami was fatty, BUT there was soooo much grease in the meal as you can see it Pooled at the bottom of the plate and was really unappealing. Overall neat flavor but a little to wild for me as I would not get again. My mother ordered the Little Brick Breakfast. She Loved the toast and eggs but found the sausage too fatty and oily. I thought they tasted like every other pork breakfast sausage (not lean). Overall, it's a cool place for brunch and I will be back to try the Vegan Hash one day! read more

We have had many enjoyable meals at Little Brick. Sadly since Covid up till now the service and food has declined so much! You order and pay first then scramble to find a table:( Front end are very casual, inattentive more interested in chatting with each other ... back to the breakfast a simple bacon, two eggs, bread, roasted potatoes. Everything on the plate was sloppily arranged and greasy! No S&P, no ketchup, no butter! Common low grade ketchup! I had to get up leave my meal as there is only one server who is also apparently the cook as well. Went to the front to pick up everything myself while my food getting cold! This place is a hidden gem - its off the beaten path and offers a great selection of coffee, food and other treats to choose from. They have a small store inside where you could purchase anything from cards to bath bombs that seems to support local businesses. The "store" is intertwined with the coffee shop and does not take away from the experience. There is place to sit indoors or outdoors and could accommodate a group of 6 with no problem. There may be peak times during your visit, so expect the place to be full depending on when you arrive - I am assuming morning to lunch would be busier than after lunch. When arriving, you follow the path to the back and enter and order at their desk. You will be provided a number, and the food and drinks would be served at your table if you are eating in. All in all this is a great place, the food is great and is tasty, the only critique would be pricing. It seems above average in what we paid for, both for the coffee and meals, which then would limit how often I would return to this business. First impression is parking is a bit tough as it is in a neighborhood and no real designated parking lot. So I had to street park which of course isn't cleared the best. Seating is somewhat limited but looks like they have some additional seating outside but yeah going here in January it's a bit cold even if you're under a bit of cover. As well multiple tables were not wiped down when we got down but it is self seating so might have just turned over. Atmosphere is quite lovely and very homey but it is a bit busy and noisy depending on where you sit. We got the breakfast sandwich with no additions and the brickyard. Breakfast sandwich, very well done but I am very much meat eater and there was no meat unfortunately which you can pay a bit more to have some but I decided not this time. Overall though the bun and sauce was super well done! The brickyard sandwich inside were wonderful but the bun overshadowed it as it was so thick and dry that by the time I got to the sauce and apples and meat I was overwhelmed by the amount of bread in my mouth. read more

We went there for brunch this morning. Love the Ritchie area (would actually move there). Quaint brick house. Opening the gate reveals the big yard with people scattered around at tables. I had a mimosa and the bennies. I added the potatoes and bacon. The potatoes were great but the bacon, wasn't strips - it was 1/2" thick strips that were crunchy and also tender. Amazing. If I was to critique anything, it would be something they did (that OEB does as well). Bennies are poached eggs on English muffins. These guys used focaccia which was way better - BUT (like OEB) they don't poach eggs! They use boiled eggs that they peeled! I know it's a lot more work to poach eggs - particularly do it accurately. But if they aren't poached, you're not selling bennies. Maybe restaurants are moving to the "easy" way now? Otherwise - definitely worth a visit. read more

One of the cutest little restaurant cafés I have ever seen. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing, the majority of the seating is outside but they've made it super cosy out on their patio. There were also a few tables inside as well. I've been trying to find a breakfast burrito for a while and I finally found a delicious one here. It's a little pricey but you can tell they use quality ingredients in their food. That being said the burrito was $15 and my wife and I were able to split it and it was enough food for the two of us with our coffee of course. Located in the quiet residential neighbourhood of Riverdale, on the shores of Edmonton's River Valley, Little Brick is a lovely coffee shop / cafe, restaurant and general store. YEG Coffee Club is behind this lovely cafe, which people can be member of. I've had the opportunity to go there to get a bag of coffee (YEG Coffee Club) and a cup of Joe to go. It will eventually be a spot where I'd love to eat and drink coffee, as it is a very nice spot - it has space inside but also outside to eat and drink. In cold times, there are heat lanterns and fires going, which has offers a very cool and nice atmosphere to enjoy food and drinks. Little Brick was originally built in 1903 and belonged to J. B. Little. It was also the original location of J.B. Little Brickyard. The Little family lived there until the early 2000s. Before the current owner opened the coffee shop and store, it was apparently in bad shape, due to bad tenants. But as I have seen, and whoever goes and gone there, the building and yard are very clean and well maintained. Little Brick's general store include items such as coffee bean bags and cups, kitchen ware, book, gift kits and crafty items. Food and drinks menus are very diverse!! Food range from soups and sandwiches to baked goods and stews and salads. And of course there are plenty of hot beverages for all tastes: coffees, teas and hot chocolates. Cold drinks include draught and canned beers, as well as wines. In conclusion, although Little Brick is off the beaten path, it is the perfect spot to enjoy food and drink (hot in winter, cold in summer), and meet friends or family, while being careful with distancing and all !! read more

The cutest little place and very popular! I met up with some friends for an early breakfast date. It was busy steadily and has an outstanding location in Riverdale. Tons of outdoor seating and a very cozy indoor space as well. I had a flat white which was perfectly made. I also opted for a breakfast sandwich and added bacon. Very fresh ingredients and local which I love. Coffee prices were comparable to chains but the food was a bit steeply priced. Delicious though so it would be a once in awhile treat. I've had the pleasure of coming here for brunch a few times, but I also love just stopping in for a coffee from time to time. I live not even 10 minutes away and love coming here so I come here often! Sometimes I even bring my father-in-law's dog, Gladys because they have a puppy friendly patio. Gladys likes to come and meet the other dogs, although she has gotten into a barking competition before. For brunch, I have tried the Eggs Benny with sautéed spinach! I think that is my favourite thing on the menu. Also happy to have a vegetarian options for me to try. I don't typically deviate from my favourites too much though... creature of habit. I love their lattes though! I tend to gravitate towards those when I'm just relaxing there. I've also brought my laptop from time to time and found it to be a good place to work. Little Brick is hidden in the quiet, calm neighbourhood of Riverdale. You wouldn't expect such a quaint cafe and general store to be situated here but it makes sense once you see it. Part of Nate Box's empire (District Coffee Co., Burrow and Elm Cafe), Little Brick has a very chill, relaxed vibe to it. The outdoor patio looked awesome! Too bad it was downpouring by the time we arrived. My two buds, J and E, were trying to tough it out outside but ended up moving inside to the living room area. Couple comfy couches and tables to sit at. Even though the menu is short and sweet, it still took us/me awhile to decide. Mostly just breakfast and lunch options. You have to go up to order but they do bring the food to your table. It was a bit annoying that they were already out of some dishes that we wanted and that one of the girls didn't put in our fourth order. By the time we had got our food and realized, it was too late to order more food as they close their kitchen at 3:00pm sharp. I talked with Bbops and he had the same issue. Except he was there early, around 9:00am on a weekend. They were already out of certain dishes. We came late afternoon (1:30pm) on a Sunday, which is more understandable but honestly, they shouldn't be running out items like that. It's not like their menu is that big to begin with. - Blueberry scone ($3.00) - we were starving so grabbed a baked good to share. The scone tasted fresh and had a nice flaky texture to it. - Porchetta sandwich ($13.00) - house roasted pork with rhubarb slaw and salsa verde. The salsa verde was a nice twist on your usual porchetta sandwich. Tasty but damn, $13.00 for a sandwich this size? Almost laughable. - Four Whistle farm duck confit salad ($15.00) - Grainworks wild rice, sour cherries, fennel and honey mustard vinaigrette. No complaints with the salad. Decent amount of duck and I liked the different tones you'd get with each bite. Sour cherries and fennel are a surprisingly nice combination. - House made pasta ($15.00) - this changes daily and for ours, it was a fettuccine pasta in a butter garlic sauce with clams. Butter garlic sauce was bomb. Again, tasty but everything skews to the small side of things. The food here is good but expect to pay a premium for small portion sizes. I could easily have eating another dish or two so keep that in mind here. Thinking it's best for coffee and a snack rather than a sit down meal. In short: Mediocre food with poor service, but a nice atmosphere. Firstly, you will be charged for your food right after you order - like you would at a fast food restaurant. Except unlike a fast food restaurant, the debit machine will prompt you to leave a tip. I don't like this method, as I would want to taste the food and judge the quality of service before I pay and tip. But I figured that with all the glowing reviews, I could expect good food and service, so I paid with a standard tip. We chose a table and waited for someone to serve us water ... and waited. I finally got up to ask the girl at the front counter, and she told me the water was self-serve and that we could get it from the water dispenser around the corner. Okay... well, maybe someone will come by to ask us how our food is tasting? Nope, wrong. No one asked us about our food after we received it. Basically, I got the same level of service I could expect from McDonald's - and I paid a tip for it! I was not happy about this. Secondly, the food. I had eggs benedict with hashbrowns and cold rice pudding. The eggs benedict wasn't anything special, not the worst I've had but not the best, either. It wasn't very warm and a bit bland. The hashbrowns were pretty bad and had almost no salt or seasoning. The rice pudding was the only saving grace. It was very flavorful and the strawberries complemented it nicely. Lastly, the setting and atmosphere of the place: I really like the idea of converting an old brick house into a restaurant. The decor was pleasant and cozy, and there was even a little Christmas tree by the fire place. So, despite the apathetic staff, the place still had a nice feeling to it. I'm surprised I didn't like this place, because it's under the same ownership as District Cafe, and I really liked District's weekend brunch! I don't think I'll be returning here. read more

If you're looking for a picturesque place to go for brunch, Little Brick is a total must. It's hidden in the Riverdale area in a small "brick" house ...literally. I've only ever gone on the weekends for brunch, but it's really ideal for any day of the week. The decor is adorable and works for any back drop for getting good photos for the 'gram. The raspberry white chocolate scone is baked to perfection. I have yet to find a more delicious scone in the city. My vanilla latte was delicious, not too hot like some places make them, and just enough froth. Are you craving for something hearty? I recommend the breakfast sandwich and add the Salz sausage patty. So tasty! The bun that it comes out it so fresh too! But, more like a burger bun and not an English muffin bun. I've had the Little Brick breakfast as well. Eggs and Sausage were great. I've come here a couple different times where we got the sauteed potatoes. I don't recommend paying extra for this or ask to get it made fresh. The potatoes taste like it was cooked earlier in the day and left on a warming tray. Just tastes older ya know? I love rice pudding, and this was delicious - aside from the strong flavour of orange zest. Not sure if you can ask them to not have it, but it just didn't seem to go well with rice pudding. I love this place. Little Brick, is not that little, lots of seating in a few different rooms. Each one has such relaxing vibes, and a mixture of different people brunching! The lovely minimalist decor lets your mind chill out and contemplate the small but delightful menu. I tried the London Fog and the omelette which was called something much fancier, full of yummy veggies, topped with cream and sriracha sauce. The portion was small but oh boy was it good. Every bite was a flavour explosion, I could have ate two. We were sitting at the big table with a few others, as all the smaller tables were taken. But it didn't seem crowded and everyone had plenty of room. We would have enjoyed the beautiful patio if the rain had stayed away. There is only one bathroom and there was a line up while we were there but they have a little gift shop section, so you can browse while you wait. I've been meaning to try Little Brick since I moved to Edmonton so decided to make the trek out for a Sunday morning breakfast. The food was delicious, the coffee was very good, and the atmosphere of the place was chill and relaxed. There was a pleasant din of people chatting but overall it was a very comfortable environment to have a conversation with your breakfast mates. We arrived around 1:00pm so likely beat the morning rush as we were able to find a table immediately. The food took about 10 minutes to come out and in that time we were able to browse the goods they have for sale. I ordered the Little Brick Breakfast and my partner ordered the breakfast sandwich. The scrambled eggs in the LBB were amazingly well seasoned and delicious; I would recommend this simple breakfast to anyone. The only complaint I have is that breakfast for 2 was just shy of $40 (that includes two small coffees and two main dishes). I don't know about you but I find that a bit ridiculous. Yes the food was delicious but it doesn't warrant that price for its simplicity. Coming back I'll probably order one of their delicious looking baked goods and just enjoy the atmosphere. read more

Little Brick received a warm welcome from the Riverdale community this past weekend -- I can tell you because I had to line-up on both occasions I visited! Sister to Elm Café on 117 St/Jasper Ave and District Coffee Co. on 109 St in the downtown core, Little Brick is the fourth storefront of Nate Box's growing empire of cafés and an expansion of his concept of bringing the community together over a cup of coffee. And like Burrow, located underground at the Central LRT Station, Little Brick is an example of a great space to be utilized as a coffee shop and a place for gathering. Located on 100th Avenue and 90th Street, the heritage house was previously the home of brickyard owner J.B Little, an industry which once defined the Riverdale area. The firm's original brick making machinery is now displayed at Fort Edmonton Park. For over a hundred years, Little's descendants continued to live in the home, until the space was converted into a store and then turned over for rent. Upon discovering the under utilized space last summer, Nate Box alongside with partners Jay Downton of Oodle Noodle and Adam Rozenhart of Oilers Nation, the space has been converted into a café, general store, and a co-working space upstairs. The front door of the house is actually situated towards the alleyway but is accessible from either entrances from the main street or behind the River Grande condominium. The interior is beautifully renovated, maintaining the home's history with exposed brick walls in the general store and fireplaces dotted throughout the home. Descriptors like "quaint" and "cozy" are tossed around like no tomorrow at Little Brick! Modern touches of dark navy blue walls, white geometric accent chairs (recognizable from the old Elm Dining Room space), and painted white brick towards the back of the house keeps the space hip and cool. Currently, the café is serving up Calgary-based roast Phil & Sebastian, baked goods from District Coffee Co., and a lunch menu similar to Elm Café and District until the space develops its own identity. As expected, the pastries and sandwiches are spot on and a popular hit with river valley explorers and the Riverdale community. You'll have to fight for seating in the main café, a total of eight seats in the common area, although hopefully seating can be placed outdoors in the summer. The general store at Little Brick is one of my favourite features of the space. A quick (and muchly appreciated!) tour by Nate Box revealed shelves lined with local products, such as organic Highwood Crossing from High River and Grainworks goods from Vulcan, products which are also used in their menus. You can also pick up coffeeware, like Chemex, Aeropress, and filters, kitchenware including custom ceramics made by Daniel Labutes from Calgary, and an assortment of bakeware. The fridge and freezer were being prepped at my initial visits, holding milk, butter, bacon, and house made frozen dinners and pie dough in the future for the community. My favourites though? Edible goodies, durh! Handmade marshmallows by Fiasco Artisan Gelato, salted caramels made in house (you need these in your life, right now), and Edmonton's own Upson's Classic Cordials. Moving towards the back of the house lies the living room, a gorgeous fireplace flanked by two couches for additional seating. The room can also be used for private events, catering, and wedding parties, with an indoor capacity of 40. Nate hopes to utilize the outdoor space in the future, increasing the capacity to 75 or so, and hopes to host neighbourhood BBQs, burgers, and drinks on long patio tables. What was the formal dining room now houses a long barn wood table, ample seating for ten and a great space for meetings and large gatherings. If I was still in school, this would be my study space! I loved watching the staff walking to and from the café towards the kitchen and watching the Riverdale residents exploring the home. On opening day, I had the pleasure of talking to a lot of locals in the community, most who thought I worked there because I had a laptop. Too cute! One couple loved the feel of the house and welcomed the extra foot traffic in the neighbourhood. They didn't seem to mind additional vehicles parking alongside the residential streets either. Since moving to the downtown core, the River Valley trails are more accessible to me more than ever. Personally, I find myself around the Glenora area (we all know about those death stairs), circling around Kinsmen Sports Centre and the Lower Level Bridge and looping back towards home or my alternative route, crossing the High Level Bridge towards the Strathcona area for some good eats. With either routes, I don't ever seem to pass the Shaw Conference Centre and eastwards. The fact that Little Brick is tucked away in that corner of the river valley is enough to extend my route, even if bottles of Upson's cordials might weigh me down. Such a gem tucked away in a small neighbourhood! Amazing coffees/teas, great food menu, cute decor, multiple rooms with unique ambiance, outdoor patio, and they grow their own herbs!!! The first thing I ever ate at Little Brick was the mushroom salad. It is actually more then a salad. It has noodles, a great selection of mushrooms, microgreens, nuts and dressing. It's filling and fulfilling in flavor and volume. I've also had some of their muffins and a soup. Everything was tasty. Little Brick has only been around for a short time but they have already ingrained themselves into the community and it feels like they've been there forever. The community has embraced them and vice versa. read more

This is a really cute café down in Riverdale, first time here... It's a lot bigger than I thought! Massive outdoor patio, and the Americano was good. It looks like the cream curdled at their garnish station, so I think they have that problem sometimes with younger staff not taking care of things... But the menu looks great and I'm looking forward to trying the food next time. read more

Food good. Front end service polite. Process confusing and not customer centric. Then the encounter with the manager. Rude and scolding in response to a simple request. Total turnoff and will not be back- there are other choices. read more

First, food was great. The process, however, was confusing. Staff was pleasant. That being said, they had a wood burning fire lit which was great as our table got constant drafts with door being opened and being left open in March. We asked if they could throw another log on fire as it was dying. The "manager on duty" came over and said to us, "we are too busy to throw a log on, I understand it gets cold but we are too busy to help that. Glad you understand." Turned and walked away. The delivery was less than pleasant and more scolding and lecturing. In the time she took to scold us, she could have simply thrown a log on. We were pleasant and simply asked a question, her response was rude and hostile. It left us feeling unwelcome and ruined our Sunday breakfast experience. We understand busy and short staffed, but we don't accept rude. read more

Stunningly decorated, very quaint little brick house. Little Brick has definitely made this place their own, much better than when they were first opened. I have found my Saturday/Sunday morning coffee spot! The little general store set up has items like organic lentils, wheats, spreads, and also has a section for cordials and accessories to make a good drink. There's even some baking pans as well. And hygienic products. There is plenty of seating in here. The main room has a few tables and chairs, and a cozy fireplace. Then there is a dining room with a stunning wood table and fabulous chandelier. The living room (my favourite) has two large couches, and a few tables and chairs, a fireplace, and beautiful large picture windows. The outside is an entire additional living space. Lots of picnic tables and patio sets. Right now it's decorated for fall harvest and it's purely stunning. I believe Cory Christopher decorated. The lattes here are always great. And they have a great food menu. I actually think... This is my favourite coffee shop in Edmonton. read more
