The library on Chestnut St has no comfy places to sit. They allow only 1/2 hour on the computer,…read moreeven though no one is ever there. Behind the desk is a total mess where the librarians spend their day. When I went up to the front desk, I was greeted with a quizzical, confused stare. I didn't have much to say, but I felt like I was speaking to someone who had been yelled at in the past. Anyway, the building is quite beautiful and there are free books available.

The whole story of the troops holding off the British soldiers from that place is amazing. The cemetery is amazing too. You can almost feel the soldiers running up and down the stairs and outside. Each building feels like a glimpse into a different part of Schoharie's past from farming and school life to vintage machinery and military history. The volunteers here really add to the experience they're kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the history they're sharing. It's the kind of museum that doesn't feel overly polished, but that's exactly what makes it charming. You can sense the age of the wood floors and the craftsmanship in every display. It's quiet, peaceful, and even a little haunting in the best way, especially if you walk through the small cemetery nearby. It's so comfortable, cozy and lovely. They have a nice display of artwork and artifacts in the museum portion. It's always changing so you never know what you might see. They have a great selection of books. The staff is very friendly and kind. It's worth a visit if you are in the area. If you live in Cazenovia, you sure are lucky to have such a great library in your midst.

It's not the biggest library you'll ever see, but it seemed fairly popular when I went in, and if I lived in Herkimer, I think I'd be by every now and then to check something new out.
