Eight cool-looking comfortable kitchen chairs, $10 each. The main reason I thrift is to find unique, often vintage pieces that are hard to replicate. Plus it doesn't hurt to save money and recycle.

We would not have discovered this place if it were not for geocaching. We took the drive from Ft…read moreMyers and arrived on a beautiful cool day (for Florida). Perfect weather for hiking. The trails are well maintained even though some sections were muddy (not sure when it rained last). The trails are very well marked and with one of their maps in hand it is hard to get lost. We hiked all the way down to the Old Datsun trail and back 5.5 miles total. Being winter the bugs were nonexistent. We didn't see much wildlife given we were out late morning and early afternoon but I am guessing this could be a good place for birders. We were informed at the visitor center that a black bear had been recently spotted on one of their trail cams - yikes! We noticed the extensive list of events and classes. If we were visiting for longer we definitely would look into some of these. We saw that they have a couple large screened in shelters that are probably used for classes and picnics. Overall a very nice resource.

As such, we made many a run to Goodwill with donations. Apparently other newbies miscalculate and do the same. I've found lovely sets of China, German wineglasses -- if I didn't already have a bunch, I would've bought them -- and other relatively expensive items for little money on their shelves. Goodwill South Florida offers discount days for teachers and students, seniors and military. There are customer appreciation days, discounts on designated holidays and Sunday Specials. Every Sunday, items tagged a certain color are sold for $1.99. And let's not forget the 50% off color of the week. Meaning, consider Brightest Horizon your preschooler's neighbourhood gated community. You start off in the main office, and have to go down a long ramp to a gate (which is a very generic lifting lock). Through that gate you can go in several different directions. All ramps lead to another locking gate. When you reach your designated class room, that door is locked, from the inside. So the little cherubs can't get out? I don't know. But it was funny the first time I went there. I just wasn't expecting all the locks.
