Wandered down Gresham Street to get away from the usual Hindley crowd. It was quiet for a Friday…read morenight so I had a chance to talk to the bar staff about their specialty item: Moonshine. This was my first experience trying moonshine, funnily enough it doesn't come in those stereotypical hillbilly ceramic jugs and there are actually quite a few varieties. Their moonshine comes imported from interstate or all the way from Tennessee. I spent a few minutes picking different jars off the shelf to have a smell and get a bit of a story for each one, the staff are definitely experts. The flavoured moonshines go well with soda water, but if you want something a bit more creative, Mississippi Moon offers a few mixed moonshine cocktails including my new favourite; Ole Smoky Apple Pie moonshine, apple juice and cinnamon. Bar staff are the friendliest you'll meet on a Friday night on the west end, even had a few games of UNO with some other punters over the bar. Decor has a cosy, modern and 'Southern' vibe, will probably seat around 20 people at a guess. Definitely a highlight of a night in town, will hopefully get another chance to Mississippi Moon.

Best in the state honestly. The menu changes with the seasons and they even do specialised menus for events like during fringe season for example and everything is so tasty. I hired out the venue for my hens party which was very reasonably priced, they tailored a custom menu to my event, have so many options for making your event special like bands, DJs, photography performances even specialised topless waiters. It really is a hidden gem in the hesrt of the city that is an absolute must visit venue. Sip on a cocktail by the pool enjoy a cheese board of plate of chip & Dips, get a coffee or tea on a colder night bundle up with provided blankets by the fireplace! Perfect all year round and a frequent stop for me and friends. Could not give this place more praise! John runs the store, and is one of the coolest store owners I've had the privilege of meeting. Each time I come in he asks what I'm looking for, and then will immediately start playing similar-sounding artists on the turntable based on my answer. His extensive knowledge doesn't end at records - he has a lot of stories to tell on artists, on music, on drugs, on life in general. You can always expect an entertaining conversation upon setting foot in this store. His record collection is also wide and diverse, and there are some real gems hidden in the crates if you care to take your time looking through them. The other chap that runs the photography side of the store is always a great conversationalist, and is always telling the stories behind the old photographs of Adelaide and the city's beginnings. The collection of vintage cameras is impressive, and you can pick up some pretty cool equipment for a bargain.

He's also a veritable fountain of musical knowledge (how could he NOT be?) and will happily share it with you or help you find something obscure you're after. I have a good friend who collects records, and we play a game called "Find the most ridiculous record then play it on repeat." While mostly I shop at garage sales, I like knowing this place is here when I have something specific in mind. Also, the old cameras at the back of the store are like a cluttered museum. Gorgeous to look at, as well as the old photography on the walls. I've been so tempted to buy an old Nikon lens just to see what the pictures are like from my camera, but i can't afford these ones as much as I can't afford new lenses! The atmosphere of this place is so fantastic, it sucks you in even if you resist its charm.

I know you can't really fault a stone grill anyway as you have to cook it yourself, however the cut of meat was excellent! Today's review is for The Woodville Hotel…read more The first thing we noticed was that it had a few different dining areas. The main area was completely booked out so we walked out into "the yard". According to their website, they have recently upgraded and I quite liked this area. Although this is an "outside" area, it's protected from the elements but still allows glorious sunlight to stream on through the windows warming up my chilled bones. The heating in that area helped a bit too!! There were staff bustling about here and there but all were very friendly and eager to please. We looked at the menu and I noticed the regular sort of pub fare that you'd expect from any decent bistro. Nothing really jumped out at me. They had parmi's, steaks, burgers, pizza's and a few seafood options. Because I'd seen this on the menu online before arriving, I knew I was going to order the bruschetta to share with hubby as an entree. It also helped that I saw a serve of this coming out and it looked quite big! For main hubby jumped out of his steak comfort zone and went for the Oven Baked Chicken Breast : Filled with double smoked ham, semi-dried tomato and haloumi cheese served on garlic mash potato and topped with citrus hollandaise I chose the Coorong Beef Rump Parmigiana: With chips, salad and your choice of sauce I swear I'd barely sat back at the table after ordering before the bruschetta came out. I had been craving this and was really really looking forward to it! It didn't disappoint. It looked pretty on the plate. The bread was lovely continental bread, lightly toasted, and the tomatoes were sweet and full of flavour. I just love tomato and basil. Such a heavenly combination! The sticky balsamic added a nice touch too. If I'm being picky I'd say I'd prefer my bread to be a little more toasted but hubby said he liked it just the way it was so that just comes down to personal preference. Unfortunately it was finished just as quick as it came out and now our hunger, rather than being partially satiated, was enraged! We had been warned that hubby's chicken was going to take at least thirty minutes before it was ready however it did seem like it came out sooner than that. Still, I like when you get that warning because then you're not left wondering if they've forgotten your order. Hubby was a little disappointed when he saw his dish. Only because to him, it looked small. I thought it looked ok on the plate but probably could have done with a bigger salad so that the meat didn't look so lonesome and maybe could have done with some fries on there too. I mean when you compare it to what mine was, this is like an itty bitty serve and yet cost quite a bit more than mine. I know that's not how things are priced but when you have a hunger.... There was nothing wrong with the taste of it. Hubby said it was good. Nice flavours throughout but he couldn't get past the size of it. Not that he should have complained really because he ended up eating half of mine! My beef parmi was HUGE! And they were so generous with that cheese!! The meat was good, tender, the tomato sauce was ok and the cheese was gooey as it should be. All good. No complaints. I'm not sure why we weren't "wowed" as there was nothing wrong with anything either of us ate and everyone was lovely to us. Most of the things we saw on the menu I thought were reasonably priced or at least, comparable to other pubs/bistro's. If you're a local or simply looking for a good bistro I would recommend The Woodville. The food is good, the prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly and from what I see, there's usually quite a few people about!
